My children are in elementary school now, and I continue to see my decision to place my kids at Knowledge House to be an excellent one. My kids started kindergarten academically ahead of their peers, and having already developed the social skills necessary for elementary school. They could work well with others, treat each other and adults with respect, and solve problems peacefully. I see the influence of their education at Knowledge House sneaking out in all sorts of positive ways: they shake hands with people and are confident when sharing their ideas, they include others in their play and notice when someone is left out, they love to explore and learn new things, and they use many different ways to solve problems. To add to all of that, despite the fact that many of their former classmates at Knowledge House attend different elementary schools, the kids still play together at playdates and we still talk with our former Knowledge House families. Mark and Valerie make this preschool a place for children to grow and learn at their own pace, and where children develop a sense of community and self-confidence.

We were referred by a friend and have since discovered that other friendsalso love this gem of a learning center. We started with this tutoring company when my son was a Junior in High School. We wanted him to work on self-management and on specific writing and math skills. He was getting a little lazy and scattered. Most importantly, we wanted our son to set some goals for himself and work toward those goals. The support that he received from Next Steps was just what he needed. The staff are highly qualified and really gave our son what he needed, from so many disciplines. Week by week we benefitted from teachers who specialize in math/science, writing, executive functioning, college/career planning and selection, and college essay writing. The pre-college planning for SAT and college essay writing took a lot of time but it was a tremendous growth experience. My son became a student who persisted in finding resources to complete what was necessary at school managed his own assignments and work. His self reliance skills really improved, and his motivation and pride in his work grew. Now that my son is recently graduated from high school and will be entering the college of his choice, I look back and know for a fact that the expert, personalized, focused help that he received from Next Steps Tutoring played a significant role in his success. As he enters college I know that he has tools to manage himself and his learning. In the near future my son will have some pre-college tutoring / success planning from his teachers at Next Steps Tutoring, just to strategize and prepare for his first year at college. I know that these teachers are available by phone or Skype in the future for him. It is so wonderful from a parent's perspective to see the growth of a young person. We were SO EXCITED to find this school! Infant massage, yoga, a great campus, delicious meals from…read morea chef... the list went on and on. Things aren't always what they seem though. Our child was there just a bit over a year and had 13 different teachers. One left during her shift and never came back, many others assured us they would be sticking around but then dropped like flies. The entire school seems to be a revolving door of staff which is never a good sign. Promises kept changing as they upped the number of kids in the rooms but continued to brag about how fantastic their ratios were. Sure they added teachers to the rooms but then teachers kept quitting and were complaining about not having proper breaks and staffing. There were ongoing requests to donate money and supplies to the classrooms - maybe it would have made sense to just increase the tuition by 10 or 20 bucks a month- I'm happy not to have to deal with this at our new daycare. Our journey ended when it became apparent that the children weren't being properly supervised and due to a safety issue we had to make a complaint to childcare licensing. The director then decided to send out updates about our complaint in emails and in Facebook posts where other staff and parents were allowed to mock the situation. Very unprofessional especially considering that the state department of licensing was in the process of citing them for lack of appropriate supervision. Licensing also helped deal with the issue of the staff not having kids regularly wash their hands (like when they came in from outside to eat meals). I feel for some of the teachers who were good but couldn't stick around. The idea behind this school is great and it would be awesome if well executed and managed.

However, the management was not consistent and had a lot of knee-jerk reactions to situations which affected our child's well being. They were very inconsistent with what they promised versus what was delivered. They claim to be child-led in philosophy, but the decisions made didn't seem to have the children's best interest in mind, rather, what was best for the administration and school seemed to be prioritized. Additionally, they were terrible at dealing with issues that arose with parents. Myself and several other parents I knew at the school were consistently told "well, group care isn't for everyone" or "that's why some people decide to hire a nanny" EVERY SINGLE TIME there was an issue--big or small. This led to fearing we were being told to leave the school. After leaving and seeing how other facilities operate and handle issues with parents, I am very glad we made the decision to leave.

Sister Pat pulled out the yard stick would march us across the street in a single file line into the church for our sentence. Thank the lord for the 7-11 down the street to load up my pockets prior to going to school. After all Lifesavers tasted better then the communion wafer. Holy Family is a nice classic school & church providing Catholic spiritual teachings to the mass's including myself. I think if your a practicing Catholic you'll appreciate coming here. My one true & only blessing coming to school here was seeing the principal was a large endowed Italian lady who ran the school with an iron fist. I mean she was built like the wings of a 1957 for Cadillac DeVille. Needless to say I made it out in one piece but I'll never forget my days at Holy Family. I'm a sinner today but that year was a building block in my life. Someday I'll repent and I may come back for the cleansing of my soul & mind.

Our child received summer connection with her teacher for extra guidance with the dual language immersion program. That was beyond what was expected. Our child has flourishes in the environment with a deeper understanding of a global community, a heart filled with love and a joy for learning. As they progressed through the levels, my daughters would sometimes "hit a wall", but were able to persist and meet the challenges because they enjoy abacus and love Yuka-sensei. Since they started learning abacus, my daughters' school performance has improved in math and other subjects as well. It is remarkable that abacus improves concentration and increases imagination.
