Lounge cafe bar, North Street, Bedminster
    Qype User (esmit…)

I visited the Lounge for lunch today, it's the first time I've been. The Lounge is an airy and spacious cafe bar on North Street, with free on street parking nearby. It has large glass doors that open onto the street. It's nicely decorated and has a relaxed atmosphere, a feeling which is aided by the option to sink into comfortable squishy chairs and benches. It was fairly busy, but not ridiculously so. They serve a range of coffees and soft drinks, as well as having a licensed bar. They have a range of snacks, such as soups, paninis, salads and light meals on offer, including daily specials which are marked up on a board. There are also a range of tempting desserts and cakes. You need to find a table and then go order knowing your table number. The food is fresh and our lunch was delicious, as well as good value for money - I had half a panini with goats cheese and roast vegetables and a large cup of a superb vegetable soup for only £3.95. This was a special offer. You are otherwise looking at around £6-7 for a main course, which is very reasonable as the food is of a good standard. The staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful, but not pushy, and we felt we could comfortably linger to chat after our meal. Overall it was very pleasant indeed in there, and we all had trouble extracting ourselves from our overly comfortable chairs to get back to work!

The food was good nice atmosphere but was let don't by an unorganised front of house who appeared to have very poor communication.

Great atmosphere and mostly food good, but sometimes food not good at all, so a bit of a lottery. when it's bad it's really bad.

Well, it was a good thing we did, since we didn't get to go back for afternoon tea... Just as the name suggests, it is located right by the canal. It was very picturesque, peaceful and relaxing. They also have seating upstairs, and had histories on the canal, with photos posted all around the wall. Their cakes looked amazing, but I decided not to order any dessert on this day. Yes I know, a big mistake! Our friend ordered Heavenly Hot Chocolate, and it looked so pretty! We went with Teashop House Blend Tea, and Earl Grey. The young boy who brought the teas (I hear this is a family-run business) was trying to very careful not to mix them up. But the funny thing was, he totally mixed the tea up! LOL. We didn't realize until half way through... I thought the House Blend tea tasted so much like Earl Grey. For lunch, we had Ham, Cheese & Chutney Sandwich and Eggs Benedict. They were both tasty, nice portion, and filling. Our friend went with something healthier, and ordered one of their vegan sandwiches. It is nice to have that option if you want or need vegan dish. We had a nice quick lunch here. It was adorable and cozy. The food was good, not amazing, but good. I think the sweets might be better than the actual food...I will never know, unless I go back! Lesson learned: don't never expect your plan to go just the way you planned them...and have your dessert first!

It's part of the Avon Gorge Hotel, but it's open to non-guests too and is always heaving at weekends with tourists, visitors and hotel guests. You can get coffee all day, but check before you go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner because they're served between specific times. If it's the food you're going for, I'd say there are plenty of other establishments in Clifton offering better value and quality than the Bridge Café - but you're really paying for the whole experience here, particularly the elegant surroundings and the location, and I'd highly recommend eating here at least once if only to enjoy what has to be one of Bristol's most striking and spectacular views.

I went here for lunch today and took advantage of the £9.95 for two courses offer, which was incredibly reasonable given the spectacular location and tasty and well-presented food. The one thing that did surprise me was how quiet the restaurant was. Fair enough, it was a Monday lunchtime, but given the beautiful setting I thought it would have been more popular.

Obviously it helps being just around the corner from home but at the same time the quality of food and friendly service are both excellent. Any good café can be judged by its breakfast and The Marmalade Café comes up trumps with high quality ingredients, cooked well for a cheap price. What more could you ask for? If you do order the cooked breakfast make sure you also ask for the veggie option of home made bubble and squeak to be added. This elevates the breakfast to another level. I now can't imagine ordering a breakfast without it. Apart form the breakfast the food is all great with interesting daily specials and cakes always available. Including homemade Marmalade of course. There is also a nice resident puppy called Doris who if you are lucky will say hello. Easily the best café in the Blackboy Hill area and I urge you to visit.

Their homemade marmalade is so good, I think about it throughout the year while I'm not in the UK. I'm not sure where they get their bacon, but it's absolutely killer. The anytime breakfast with a side of crumpets/marmalade with tea is about £8. You can't get a better deal than that for fresh, made-to-order food that's not greasy. I'm so glad this place has survived in an address that's historically had quite a bit of turnover.
