So after visiting Tinto Lounge on Gloucester Rd. we were ok visiting the original place in North St. But what a let down. Coming here on a Thursday mid afternoon we experienced the SLOWEST kitchen in all of Bristol. The burger was ok but the fries were not great; the tapas looked pretty burnt up to me; and my appetizing sounding lasagne was served on a plate swimming in liquid cheesy sauce. Despite the poor presentation and long wait to eat we carried on with or late lunch. Only when we were told there were no boxes or foil to wrap up food to take away did we realize this place was poorly run and had to complain. After talking with the manager some money was refunded. Was it the time of day or the staff in general that makes this place come off like the management are focused elsewhere? The limited number of power sockets could be a good thing, but for mobile office folks there are more convenient places to settle in. Summary: C-grade, could do better. read more

Lounge is the kind of place that looks and feels as though it's always been here. It's a seasoned protagonist of the North Street rear guard that paved the way for the regeneration of the area, showing that it was possible for more upmarket establishments to thrive in this formerly dilapidated and neglected district. Having weathered the gentrification of the area it has proven to have lasting appeal in an increasingly faddy world. Even the recession doesn't appear to be putting too much of a dent in their popularity. Minor modifications keep things fresh, Tapas is now responsible for much of the food sales, where a few years ago it was bistro fare, and since the smoking ban, the back yard has been converted into a small enclosed garden. Lounge is the first in a long line of Lounges that have been replicated throughout the city, and more lately have gone national. New branches have recently opened in Reading and Plymouth. It is the only one of the Lounges that offers a private garden as well as outside seating along the pavement in front of the establishment. read more

This is the best place we tried on North Street. The food is high quality, "gastropub" style, but not expensive, and the atmosphere is nice: not formal, but nicer than a typical pub. Great for an affordable date or nice family dinner. Ambiance: lovely, with wood furniture and candles, a nice view of the streets, and plenty of games available for you to entertain yourself or the kids: Jenga, Scrabble, and even Monopoly. Food: very good, and in generous (but not too large) portions. They serve "streaked" (American style) bacon, delicious homemade mac n cheese, plenty of vegetarian options, and an interesting selection of gourmet breakfasts and burgers. Very nice presentation, too. Price: was very reasonable. Three adults ate with wine for £30. Take advantage of "cheeky wine Monday" as well, where you get a free glass of wine with your main, or a pint of ale for just 1 pound. read more

I visited the Lounge for lunch today, it's the first time I've been. The Lounge is an airy and spacious cafe bar on North Street, with free on street parking nearby. It has large glass doors that open onto the street. It's nicely decorated and has a relaxed atmosphere, a feeling which is aided by the option to sink into comfortable squishy chairs and benches. It was fairly busy, but not ridiculously so. They serve a range of coffees and soft drinks, as well as having a licensed bar. They have a range of snacks, such as soups, paninis, salads and light meals on offer, including daily specials which are marked up on a board. There are also a range of tempting desserts and cakes. You need to find a table and then go order knowing your table number. The food is fresh and our lunch was delicious, as well as good value for money - I had half a panini with goats cheese and roast vegetables and a large cup of a superb vegetable soup for only £3.95. This was a special offer. You are otherwise looking at around £6-7 for a main course, which is very reasonable as the food is of a good standard. The staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful, but not pushy, and we felt we could comfortably linger to chat after our meal. Overall it was very pleasant indeed in there, and we all had trouble extracting ourselves from our overly comfortable chairs to get back to work! read more

What a disappointment is my immediate reaction. The Lounge in Bedminster used to serve up the tastiest, heartiest paninis, burgers and steaks with equally hearty portions of skinny fries piled high on large plates accompanied by a selection of original sauces, one being the famous Cajun thousand island sauce (one of the main motivations for my frequent returns). But as is the way with so many successful enterprises, as productivity increases standards decrease. Seriously, if it weren't for the familiar decor I would have thought it was a different place. My friends and I used to relish a trip to the Lounge. A generous portion of delicious, good quality lunch food at a reasonable price! You can't go wrong! Or can you? Today was truly the bitter taste of disappointment. Sure the staff are friendly enough and the service is good but at the end of the day its the food I care most about. Well now.... my tuna melt perhaps met a tuna once but when I opened up the soggy slices of white bread all that I could really make out was some suicidal looking red peppers and a lot of juice. Interesting... My companion had a beef burger that was as dry as the Sahara and the meat looked like a turd. I must say I started to question the caliber of his burger when I noticed that pre-every bite he was smothering it in mayo. The old sauces had been replaced with your bog standard ketchup, vinegar etc etc. The fries were skinny but not in that yummy slightly soft and floury way. Crunchy and hard, like a twig is more apt! And then the side salad....oh my god the side salad. Shriveled and drenched in cheap oil. Mmmm yum thanx. NOT! Those who live around the area would know that the Lounge recently expanded into the next door shop. This was greeted with much approval considering it had safely secured a reputation as a quality eating and drinking venue. Part of its success is due to the unique interior. Retro-loungy-cum-canteen, all dark mahogany, framed mirrors and photographs of bygone eras. Cosy, quirky and now....plenty of seating. But I guess the owners didn't think the customers would notice the extreme drop in food standards. You know when cheese has been over toasted and goes hard and black.....eugh shudder! The food is best compared to service station food hall eating, but worse! I did notice a new tapas menu, but seriously I ain't gonna bother wasting my money to find out what that is like when the Tobacco Factory, a few metres down, serves guaranteed tasty tapas. If you want a drink in a cool atmosphere then this is the place. Just don't try the food! read more

As comfy as a Sunday-morning dressing gown, the Lounge in Southville has been expertly showcasing its talents since it opened a few years back. This is definitely a peoples' place, well suited to the local vibe - Southville has always been a shy cousin to the rarefied heights of the 'Clifton effect' - yet it still retains a Bristolian charm. Inside you'll find chunky wooden tables and an equally robust menu that gives a retro-nod to relaxed 80's bistro dining for both evening eaters and the laptop-and-latte crowd who just want to refuel with a Panini or tapas. The menu is more concise than comprehensive - which is no bad thing - offering big-plate breakfasts, fusion salads, and main courses around the tenner mark. But the dining is in the detail and the Loungers have deftly tweaked the décor to make you feel at home. Couple that with nice loos, board games for the nippers and a bijou courtyard for much-maligned smokers, and you have a real box-ticker that offers a little bit of what you fancy, while still retaining a core identity - there are six of them located in the Bristol area. Basically, this is a nouveau-village pub for city folk that probably don't listen to the Archers that much. read more

I usually just come in for breakfast/brunch (which is how I discovered this place) but after frequent visits I'd also recommend checking out their burgers and tapas selection as well! read more

Could not book a table and we were 7 people, so getting a table was always going to be a challenge, I had to be quite determined to get them.to arrange one, no creativity in joining tables. A number of Lounges have sprung up across Bristol, but for my money the original is still the best. If you've been to one of the others, you'll know the idea as this one shares the same decor and menu. However, the thing that makes it stand out for me is the size. While some of the others feel a bit crowded and unsuitable for merely drinking in, the Lounge is larger and has two rooms. This means things are more spread out and relaxed, and you can really can kick back and enjoy yourself instead of feeling compelled to leave as soon as your food is finished. It is the biggest lounge so far, taking up six numbers on the popular Bedminster hangout of North Street. I'm a massive fan of everything that this little local 'chain' of cafes/bars has to offer. The Lounge Bars are a wonderful invention, and I look forward to them spreading all over in a Starbucks-like rash. Yay for expansion. Lounge serves a wide range of food, cakes, tapas, coffee, beer and cocktails. In short, there really is something here for everyone. At night time the whole place is lit up with candles in a cosy and personable air, which is romantic, comfortable, classy and relaxed. One of my favourite things about this chain of cafes is the interior design. It's completely to my taste; think old churchy interiors with cosy sofas, candles and chit chat-able tables. The food and drinks here are wonderful; slightly on the expensive side, perhaps, but I've always found that it's worth every penny. A choice selection. Go and enjoy. read more

I didn't realise this was a chain and my Bristol friends have always recommended it, I've been in here about 4 times and I've never had a good experience. I've tried in the week, off=peak and on a busy Saturday and it's always the same.....terribly slow service. Today was the final straw. After queuing for 5 minutes (only 2 people in front of me) the woman serving was grumpy and telling the guy in front of me that there was no way she could take his order without knowing his table number, he explained which table it was but she made him go and find out (perhaps a table map at the till would be a good idea?!). After ordering, she said it would take 15 minutes for a coffee. So I left. This isn't the first time there has been a stupidly long wait for ONE coffee. Also, I was by myself which meant I couldn't get a table before placing my order - so what was she going to do? Refuse to serve me?! I decided to go up the road to The Terrace - FAR better service, they let me sit down, they brought my order to me and I got to relax with a morning paper whilst the sun shone through the window. read more

The first establishment in this small but highly individual chain of Bristol based pubs. The Lounge is the biggest of the Bristol lounges and is currently the only one with an outside seating area. The lighting is dim and warm, and the atmosphere is buzzing. The small but highly satisfying range of beverages compliments the feel to this style of bar. There doesn't appear to be any hint of alcoholism or the other troubles that the alcohol industry brings. It is merely an enjoyable place to socialise at your leisure. Part of a large chain of various 'lounges' across the UK this was one of the first when still privately owned. There is various items on the menu breakfast is good here and the portion sizes are pretty fair and quality is excellent. There is also a tapas option here but tread carefully on this area because you are likely to get burned on certain items for example £3.50 for four falafels with hummus I mean jeezzz the old account at head office must rub his hands with glee when you order that badboy. The coffee us pretty good here too and the bar selection although pretty standard with no wow they sell that catch your eye products. They have *yawn* Beck's Vier on draught. Wines are fairly priced. Burgers are also above average here but maybe not a burger masterclass. The Lounge is an all-round Cafe/Bar that ticks a lot of the right boxes and the staff are really friendly just not an outstanding example of the genre. read more

This is the first of the increasingly popular "Lounge" café/bars in Bristol and South Wales and in my opinion the best one. It is large and spacious, yet cosy and inviting with a wonderful rustic quality to the décor and furnishings. The highlight for me though is the menu, particularly the breakfast menu which I have sampled on more than one occasion. The food is delicious and light and I can't praise their Full English highly enough. In the evenings it turns into a great local bar with an excellent selection of draught and bottled beers as well as a more than adequate selection of wines and spirits. This is one of my favourite places in South Bristol and although they have branched out and turned into something of a mini chain, I won't even let that tarnish the reputation of this fantastic café/bar. read more

The Lounge on North St was the first Lounge in Bristol. It's great if you have babies or little kids as they have high chairs and toys to keep them occupied. They do a good breakfast and reasonably priced food at lunch and in the evening my only complaint about the place is that it has a tiny bar area to order from and due to its popularity it can sometimes take a while to get served or to get your food which is annoying if you are in a hurry. read more

Me and some friends visited for a quick dinner before seeing the 150th anniversary clifton suspension bridge fireworks. So you can imagine it had been a busy day for them. Think this was the reason for the not so hot food and the rather grumpy chef. The kitchen tried to stop taking orders mid way through our party ordering. Mac and cheese should be a pretty simple dish however ours came out in a watery sauce with burnt bits of bacon. Prepared to give it another try as the brunch menu looked pretty good and the rest of the our groups burgers were good. Think they were just having a bad day. read more

I love the Lounge, it is the first of a small chain of 'Lounges' which believe now stretches as far as Cardiff and Bath. It is very relaxed and welcoming, I've taken my 4 children and not felt unacomfortable. You can have just a coffee or alcoholic drink, cake, snack, breakfast or full on meal. The food is always good and you can tell its freshly made on site, even the cakes and it all seems quite reasonable priced for what it is! It's open at 9 in the morning until 11pm so its a great place to go whatever you fancy. Toilet facilities are a bit poor though. The peple in there all seem nice as well doesn't feel like you are taking your children into a pu or bar. I'd definately reccommend this place. read more

This is such a great little cafe bar. It seems to fulfill all the functions that a local bar needs. There is a great atmosphere and a really great menu available during the day then as the sun goes down, the music starts and it becomes a really sociable place to spend the evening. They always have daily newspapers available to read, there are lots of board games which you can borrow to play and during the day they seem to welcome children. The only downside that I can think of is that they don't open till past eleven on a weekend - it's always packed until then and most people aren't keen on leaving at twenty past eleven! read more

Only had lounge eggs for breakfast. Really nice, great service, loved by mothers with babies, about six came in as we left. I was with my daughter and granddaughter and both we're happy with their food. Plenty of other people using the free wifi too. The Lounge is one of the greatest success stories of the up-and-coming southville area. This is one of the great social hubs of the area, providing good food in a cosy atmosphere. The furniture is all miss-matched reclaimed stuff, including some old church chairs with the hymn book holders, and some of the tables seem to have been carved out of old railway sleepers, all of which gives a homely feel. There are board games scattered about, and regular quizzes too. The food is excellent, if a little fussy for some tastes. The burgers deserve special mention, as they are a thousand miles from the flat, tasteless things you get from fast food restaurants. They're huge, and can come with really nice cheese and bacon if you want them. Also worth a mention are the breakfasts, which are giant plates of hangover curing goodness. Fabulous bacon, fat sausages, toast, eggs, tomatoes, black pudding... Pick your favourites and pile them up! read more

Like it's sister lounges, The Lounge on North Street is a comfortable and friendly place where you get good food and friendly staff. It has a laid back atmosphere and good music. The rum and ginger beers are great as are the marshmallow covered hot chocolates. read more

I remember when the lounge first opened, the food was always consistently of a reasonable standard. I visited here recently after not having been for a couple of years, I ordered the breakfast Which turned up after almost an hour wait and when it did arrive, the bacon and sausage meat patty were both over cooked as to be almost burnt, the beans and toast were cold and the mushrooms looked as if they were from a tin. Disappointing and I certainly wouldn't recommend this place when both the tobacco factory and souk kitchen offer far superior food just a stones throw away. read more

Great atmosphere and mostly food good, but sometimes food not good at all, so a bit of a lottery. when it's bad it's really bad.

This place has helped Southville to be the place to live,eat,or drink.Expensive but nice environment for a break from the hussle of busy north street.Seems to attract people that have moved to Bristol from other Towns.Perhaps that is why Southville is too expensive for some locals to buy a house. read more
