If he said okay, majority of the time X symptoms like this, but yes, they can also result from Y, that would be more scientific and actually evidence-based medicine. Medications weren't posed as empiric treatment with the possibility that his hunch could also be wrong. It is actually not possible to be 100% certain that something must be due to X disease process with ZERO tests to either rule in or rule out one's differentials. Yes, most of the time, it's not zebras. But it is hubris to then conclude that there is no possibility clinical signs are caused by something other than one's initial hunch.

I went in to see the doctor at Mercycare Marion because my doctor did not have any appointments…read moreavailable. I was seen by a doctor that took less than 5 minutes to assess me, said she was sending me for an x-ray because I had decreased breath sounds. She said she would call me with the results that day or the next one after results were read. NO PHONE CALL CAME. Two days after I called and said they posted the results in my-chart. I should just take some over the counter meds. I called my doctor (who works for Mercy), she got me in, and was ASTOUNDED that they didn't take any other tests and I ended up needing prednisone and antibiotics to clear things up. VERY disappointing service.
