The School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) is home to 1400 students and is the only…read morepublic K-12 art school in the United States. Grades K-3 are admitted by application and grades 4 and up must also audition for admission. Pupils outside of the Cincinnati Public Schools system can attend for a tuition fee; those inside county can attend for free. The school has three large performance venues: - The Corbett Theater (seats 750) - The Mayerson Theater (seats 300) - The Black Box Theater (seats 130) The Corbett Theater stage has high ceilings which allow for "flying" actors, as well as an orchestra pit that sinks down to another level of the building! In addition to the stage, SCPA has courses in their scenery and prop room. Students create and build about 95% of the stage. The convenient location of the stage shop allows them to move scenery on and off the stage with ease. The art and dance rooms have a wall of windows which overlook 12th Street, Music Hall and Washington Park. Equipped with six dance studios, students can rehearse in this studio knowing their show can be replicated, step for step, in the Corbett Theater, as the two venues are identical in size. Many of the studios are heavily insulated so that loud classes will not disturb another. The school building has a very modern design with industrial elements and bright colors. Massive pieces of student artwork hang in the hallways. My favorite detail about the school is their students: they appeared happy and focused. In contrast to other public schools, all of the SCPA pupils were dressed nicely for class with combed hair; no one was wearing pajamas.

My daughter attended KinderCare Symmes from 12 weeks to about 20 weeks old. She was in the small…read moreinfants room with the non-mobile babies. The first person I interacted with at KC was their director. She took me on a tour, showing me the infants room and telling me all the great things about KC. It was close to work and the director seemed great and that it why we chose to send our daughter there. Our experience was pretty rough from the start. The baby and I were both getting used to this new routine. I was trying not to be the typical overbearing mother and put my faith in the teachers/caregivers. One of my first negative experiences was in the first or second week there. I knew my daughter had been struggling a bit. I stopped in to see her on my lunch break and spoke with the main teacher and one of her helpers. They made it seem like she cried all day every day. They asked me if she was colicky and what kind of formula I was feeding her, etc. At home my daughter was very happy, slept well and didn't cry a lot at all so I found this conversation very disconcerting. I tried to continue the conversation with the main teacher when I picked up my little one that afternoon, and at that time she made it seem like my daughter was doing great and was totally adjusted to the new environment. This was confusing based on our previous conversation (that had totally stressed me out). I followed this up by emailing the director who never responded. In addition to the awkward, poor communication with the teacher, I had a bad interaction with the co-director. She called me about some paperwork and as I picked up the phone I could hear her complaining about someone (though I never figured out if it was about me or my daughter or sometime else entirely). It was completely unprofessional. In addition to these interactions I saw the infant room over ratio at least a handful times in the two months we were there. There were older infants and toddlers all over the small infants room, exposing the babies to more germs than they should have been (sometimes touching the babies because the teachers couldn't reign them all in). The main teacher seemed very stressed out a lot of the time. Her assistants were never consistent (different people there a lot, at both drop off and pick up). It honestly just felt very chaotic. Now that I've laid out my experience and why we left I will lay out some of the pluses... The teachers and director were very nice. While communication could certainly use improvement I do think they did well under the circumstances. I really liked one of the assistants who I believe worked in the older infants room full time but helped in the small infants room in the morning. KC (or at least this location) also provides their own diapers and wipes, which was pretty big perk. They also provided formula if you didn't mind to ask them for it (you still have to bring the formula home and prepare bottles every day). And they work with many companies to give an employee discounts. I'm sure childcare is an extremely challenging field to work in. I didn't walk away with any personal negative feelings for the people who work here. A lot of the challenges we faced are likely typical of any childcare organization. But I wanted a smaller, calmer environment and more personal care for my daughter so for us KC didn't work out.

Why would I leave my kids with someone that can't even find their papers? So I found this kindercare, and I'm honestly soooo happy things worked out the way they did, they classrooms are spacious, they offer more activities and things to do, and their playground looks super fun, my kids have never been in daycare and I was nervous but they settled all that and now I'm super confident and excited for my kids to be going here! I'll have a infant and toddler there. Very organized and clean and spacious.

You're decently vetted before you can step foot into a classroom. There's a short application process and you must be legally background checked (with the fancy blue paper background check, not just an online one). Once approved, you get a 5 year badge and you're able to check in to the school. I'm impressed with the organization of this school. I'm in two separate classrooms and both teachers are great. The kiddos are all respectful and care to be in school. The office staff, cafeteria staff and paraprofessionals are very personable with each kiddo. It's a lovely sight to see! As for the Classroom Buddy program, it's easy to get set up if you email the school for details. Even a small amount of time with a kiddo each week could change their perspective on many things, both short and long term. You can change a child's life. Yes, YOU.

I really enjoyed and looked up to all of my teachers. They were all amazing and wonderful people who taught me a lot. Some of them are still there! They have an accelerated program and a magnet program that brings in students from all over outside the Mt. Washington area. We were taught Latin in preparation for the curriculum at Walnut Hills High School even though not everyone went there. I also learned how to type about 60 words a minute when I was in the 5th grade, which is something most people can't say! This is a great school for your young ones to attend. There is even a huge playground in back for recess!
