This place is modern looking, fresh smelling and very warm and inviting. I really enjoyed visiting my friend who has been living here for several months now and knowing that he seems to be pleased with the care and comfort he is receiving. They have a very large, fabulous covered deck connected to the building and is situated off from the dining hall. Residents get to enjoy a picturesque view of the countryside as they dine. My friend made sure I stepped out onto the deck to look out at the donkey who lives in a large enclosed area. The donkey appeared to be happily dining on the vegetation beneath one of the many trees it has the pleasure to rest under. This donkey has been able to time its visits to be back near the fence and deck just as some of the residents finish up their meals. They might decide to save a little something and will often toss it to him to feast upon. From my observations, the residents seemed to be in good spirits and were enjoying each others company. One woman told me she has been living there for 10 years. I am glad I had the opportunity to visit my friend and to discover a possible new place to recommend to those who find themselves in need of specialized care.

The caregivers put off doing and avoid doing anything they can as long as they can. Family members must really make them step up and do their jobs. There were times I had to do their work taking care of him myself. This should never be acceptable. You must be the advocate for those you love, especially when the patient is not able to stand up for themselves. They said a grievance was filed on his behalf, but I seriously doubt that as true. If I could give less than the 1 star I would take even that 1 away. Avoid this facility, RNC = Really No Care.

A few weeks later I received a bill for the full amount without a self pay discount. I called and they said they sent it to their manager to resolve. Next month I got the same bill and called again. The same response was given. This went on 3 times before I finally got a correct bill according to them, but I still allegedly owed money. By the way, I was also told that my bill was being sent to collections in the middle of all this, despite the fact that I had called every month. They have the worst billing department ever!!!

I've visited my grandma here a couple times already (she just moved in not too long ago.) and I can…read morehonestly say, all of the nurses that I've met or have seen in the hallways seem genuinely nice. That is a really important thing when you hear so many horrible stories about places like this. My grandma of course hated the place when she first moved in because she thought we were throwing her into a "nursing home". This is not a nursing home but a great place for older people to interact with others their own age when they can't live alone anymore. They have a great outside area in the back and organize activities like bingo to keep everyone busy. They even have free WiFi which was a nice bonus for me when I was there! :-) My grandma now seems happier than she has for quite some time. She won't come out and say it, but I think she enjoys being a resident there now.

I finished seeing Dr. Pingree somewhere around July 2016 and wanted to follow up with some more…read moreclarity for others seeking long-term care here. It turns out that my concussion and light sensitivity were so bad that they were beyond Dr. Pingree's scope. Dr. Pingree gave me a recommendation for a specialized eye doctor in Wexford, who subsequently sent me to vision therapy (to clarify, vestibular therapy gets your two eyes and brain to work together; vision therapy just gets your two eyes to work together, independent of the brain). Long story short, I completed the vision therapy sessions Dr. Pingree recommended and am now back to her. She said there was no comparison to where I began in April 2016 when we first met to now, February 2017. Complete night and day difference. Dr. Pingree is professional, cordial, and knows what she's doing. I didn't care for her in the beginning when she told me I wasn't allowed to wear sunglasses indoors, but now we laugh about that every single visit; I feel much better. Dr. Pingree is a tough love kind of person; do your exercises no matter how difficult they are, or how dizzy/nauseous they make you feel. She knows what's up and has 10+ years of dealing with difficult clients like me. I don't know why people skip out on her exercises; I mean, I want to be able to see again! LOL Thanks for everything, Dr. Pingree! If I ever go through another car accident, I'll be in touch (hopefully, that doesn't happen)!

I enjoyed coming to visit her with our other sister. We always felt welcomed. We found the place to be always clean, the staff friendly and the activities enjoyable. They had a guy sing & play an accordion one time of "oldies but goodies" & it was in their activity room. And yes, we sang along!! So fun! At times, I'd bring us an "indoor picnic" (food from home) to a small dining room area for us to enjoy. My sister felt like we were visiting her in her home. I could tell that she was treated with respect and kindness. The Nursing staff & even the Welcoming Greeter Terri who has visitors sign in, knew my sister well. They make time for each resident to get to know them. I'd recommend anyone wanting their loved one needing skilled nursing care as a final residence to consider Halcyon Senior Living.

They can tell you what mom enjoys doing and talking about. Mom has made many friends. The staff and residents are warm and welcoming. Then they take one of their extended breaks and cannot be found. And that is if they even bother to show up instead of calling off. The facility is always short-staffed. Those that are competent have left or looking to leave. Which leaves the bottom feeders, and even worse, agency staff who do not care. Add to that an Administrator and Director of Nursing who are unreachable and invisible and you the perfect recipe for disaster.

I asked for a private room. Although their ad says they are available, I was told they were for terminal patients. I insisted and got one. The head nurse there said I was falling to get attention. She made me sit on the floor at the nurses station. My husband came and got me back to my room. This place has too many staff bullies. Keep far away!
