If your loved one is able to get around on their own and take care of themselves, this may be the place for them. If there is any type of disability, this is NOT the place for your loved one. My sister is a Parkinson's patient. We were assured that they could meet her needs. She was in a Broda chair. I can't begin to tell you how many times she fell out of the chair or fell on the floor from her bed. She was often on the floor for up to two hours. I left a white board in her room reminding staff that she had to have her chair tilted back to prevent falls. Her room was disgusting. I asked several times for the carpet to be cleaned.....to no avail. She constant ly had UTIs. The last straw was when I got a call at 11 pm. She had fallen once again. When I got there she was on the floor complaining that her hip hurt. There were 2 young girls in the room with her waiting for the hospice nurse to arrive. They had no idea what to do because they were not nurses or aides. They said that they found her on the floor. There was not a nurse on duty who could help. The only person that I saw was a charge nurse and I don't believe that she was even a nurse. (Aren't they supposed to be nurses?) I believe that she was Just a worker on duty to handle the meds. It was after 11:00 and my sister was in the clothes that she wore all day. They did not even get her ready for bed. Obviously no one had entered her room all evening. The excuse was that she liked to eat her ice cream late at night. So they were waiting. Is that not unbelievable? Im guessing that she was trying to get to her bed when she fell. She had to have been on the floor for several hours. We complained so many times and absolutely nothing got better. I'm not sure how many times she fell but I'm positive that we weren't aware of all of them. I could go on and on about the lack of care at New Haven. The food was horrible. They said they were working on that. When we moved my sister and the last items were being taken from her room, I looked back at the filthy carpet and thought..... I wouldn't let my dog stay in this room. Please know that this review is not an exaggeration. If you do decide this is the place for your loved one, visit often. Then again, I went almost every day and things still didn't get better.

The entire staff at Paramount were pleasant and helpful and you can tell that they all enjoy their work and that they truly care about the patients. The nursing staff were excellent! While I hated for my husband to have to be there, the obvious dedication and compassion of the staff made me feel comfortable leaving him in their capable hands. My husband received speech therapy, and, in the short time that he was there, we noticed definite improvements in his speech and comprehension. Occupational therapy and physical therapy also were great--both in the services provided and the advice as to how to adapt his environment and his activities. The facility is very clean, the rooms are spacious, and the dining and lounge areas were comfortable and inviting. My husband enjoyed a variety of foods and was provided with alternatives if he did not want what was on the standard menu. I'm hoping he won't expect that same variety and flexibility now that he's home. If you are in need of a rehabilitation facility, I highly recommend Paramount South Hills.

The caregivers put off doing and avoid doing anything they can as long as they can. Family members must really make them step up and do their jobs. You must be the advocate for those you love, especially when the patient is not able to stand up for themselves. They said a grievance was filed on his behalf, but I seriously doubt that as true. If I could give less than the 1 star I would take even that 1 away. Avoid this facility, RNC = Really No Care.

Please do your homework before placing your loved one at this facility. Please ask questions,…read moreturnover rate of staff, how many agency caregivers are working, caregiver to patient ratio. Look at the turnover rate of the people running the place. Are nurses passing meds or Med Techs, are the people providing the care CNA or caregivers, will you be notified of any changes in your loved ones condition, what exactly do you do you mean by "assisted living". What does that include? What is the average time to answer a call bell..but please do not be fooled what they do is send somebody in to quickly turn off the light and will tell your loved one, " I will tell the nurse." Help is usually at least 30 minutes away or more. Due to Covid the meals were in the room brought up in a cardboard box and 99% of the time my moms food was placed out of reach. Never opened or set up for her to eat. Not to mention the food is cold and the tiny plastic utensils that are handed out are the size for a preschooler to use and very flimsy. Many of the meals I would have a hard time eating due to the size of the bun or meat itself let alone an 85 year old woman with missing teeth. Often times the meals were just left all day without being picked up. My moms pills were left on the bedside stand more than once and I even found medicine on the floor that I am certain was charted as given. My moms pull up many times was soaking wet with urine, she did develop skin breakdown, that I had to mention to the staff to get ointment to put on. They never even saw it. Using a wipe after changing her was never even a thought, something else I had to tell the staff to do. Many meetings with the people running the place did nothing. They sat there and listened and all these false promises that never happened. My moms personal property was used for other residents, they would just come in and " borrow as needed," even during Covid. I caught the staff playing on her computer while she was asleep. Items went missing more than once. My mom like so many older people was afraid to say anything to me because of the fear of the ramifications. The second and third floor reek of urine. During many visits to my mom I would be there for hours without a single soul checking in on her. We ended up hiring help to sit with her on top of paying that astronomical prices of that place. I ended up calling the state and other places to look into this facility. I could write a book of horrors and just might. I just am trying to help others not to be fooled. I believe that place could sell snow to an Eskimo. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, 412-742-8015. She did not have severe dementia, knew everyone, was not combative nor did she wander. After two years I asked the administrator if we could discuss whether a change to the higher level of care was necessary as I saw my mom needing more assistance with dressing and ambulating. I was directed to speak with the nurse. No offer was made to contact the nurse nor leave a message. After speaking with the nurse I was told no changes were necessary. Much to my surprise we received a phone call a few months later that care was no longer able to be offered. Luckily we found a better care facility and on the day of moving out, the same administrator came into the room and introduced herself ! Needless to say it was not a friendly conversation. The caregivers at Weatherwood were very kind. Unfortunately the administrative and nursing leadership were not.

My mother has been in the Manor for over eight years. She's been traumatized in more ways than I…read morecan easily remember. She was forced to live in a hall for a week when she was given the window side of a room she couldn't move her wheelchair into due to the narrowness of the passage. I kept wondering why I found her lodged sideways at the entrance to the room. It should have been clear. It took a major fight to get her a real room. Another instance: her roomate's dementia took a nasty turn so that she repeatedly threatened to kill my mother in her sleep. I tried to get her moved to another room but was told she could not be moved due to some kind of semi-quarantine which turned out to be a bunch of bull. Through another major fight, I got her moved. Another incident: my mother was prescribed a drug cocktail that made it seem she had rapid onset dementia. She forgot how to use a spoon, how to eat. She forgot my name and sat drooling and staring at the wall, when she didn't continually weep, that is. A hospice RN recognized the symptoms could be side effects of the drugs she was on, so she was taken off them. In two months time, she was reading National Geographic. (Be advised that the population of this nursing home is heavily drugged.) Another incident: my mother was seriously assaulted by another resident in the dining room. The charge nurse called me and said my mother's wheelchair had been "bumped" but they were watching her closely. I said okay and hung up but as I started to think about this, it made no sense: why would she be "watched closely" if her chair was only "bumped"? I went to the Manor, investigated and found the assault had been violent, with the assaulter banging the chair up and down and slamming it against the wall while screaming frighteningly. I won't go into details but the attempt to deny what had happened only cranked up after I confronted the administration. (This brings in another aspect of the Manor and that is the willingness of the place to deceive at the drop of a pin and to do so intentionally and methodically.) Oh my God, I could go on and on! I've just scratched the surface! Westmoreland Manor is a nightmare. If you have no choice but to leave your loved-one there, be ready to watch and question everything and be willing to fight over and over to protect the one you love because that's what it will take to keep him or her safe, (assuming you can manage it all). This is not a place where you can warehouse a friend or relative and go blithely on your way, assuming all will be well, though the truth about the Manor isn't something you're likely to find out about through a short term stay. I could add that the higher functioning the resident, the fewer problems he or she will have. This place is no picnic, though. Don't fool yourself on that account. And the problems never end: just a week ago, my mother was over-prescribed a psychiatric drug and I was not informed of the order, (and that is one giant no-no!); when I finally got to her, (I couldn't visit for a few days), she was a complete mess. With one exception, the doctors at the Manor prescribe in a rote, formulaic and fairly mindless manner, paying little, if any, attention to the lessons of the past (ie, medical history) and for the most part they tend to be inaccesible even when problems arise. A final note: if your loved-one is oxygen dependent, you'll want to avoid the Manor and try to find a smaller nursing home where the care is more individualized. The O2 tanks, necessarily, are handed out at different times to different residents because they run out at different times, (so hand-out times can't be standardized); what this means practically is that O2 dependent residents go through frequent periods of oxygen starvation because the nurses are unable to keep track of when the tanks go empty, (it's complicated, I know: think about it, it might become clear). This problem actually CAN'T be solved presently as it requires oxygen tanks with alarms and this technology isn't yet generally available. Of course if you query the Manor on this subject, you'll get tons of bull in return. Don't believe any of it. If your loved-one is oxygen dependent and his or her oxygen needs are critical or likely to become critical, find a smaller nursing home.
