Studenty shithole masquerading as something more upmarket. It's like the downmarket version of Cross Keys in town. But very down market. But then it's for students, who don't want to spend a ton of cash on various fruity beers. And in that it was kinda cool to get a bottled cider for less than 4 quid. That said the cheesy chips were just short of 4 quid too and in quality probably worth about 1. I was very disappointed with the food if I'm honest. The staff seemed friendly right up until the end when one of the guy staff turned into a massive douche and wouldn't let us use the toilet because it was in the 'out of bounds' area, there are toilets around the corner we were told, only to find this was a disabled loo for all 4 of us that wanted to spend a penny. One word describes this place very well 'Studentesque'. This place is big but full of nooks and crannies so you can hide away if you want to. SO much random stuff you would be fine to go alone and just look around for half an hour, lol. A whole wall full of clocks which is why it is dubbed 'clock cafe' rather than LS6. Prices are a bit much for a 'cafe' but what they serve is nice enough with lovely little glass cups and saucers and leaf pots for tea. Staff are very relaxed which makes for a nice atmosphere. If you are in the area I would go in but not sure that I would pick it out of anywhere to go in Leeds. read more

Just a quick one, but well overdue -- I realise my last update was only a month ago but since then I've had several bites to eat that demand a mention. Remember that I wrote about the food and said it wasn't amazing? Forget that. (Well, don't forget it if you're picky about burgers.) Forget that and go for brunch, because it's one of the best things you could treat yourself to in LS6 (the area, not the business). With eggs florentine, benedict, or rancheros, you'll be in heaven. Every time I've ordered the florentine (and cheekily asked for bacon as well) it's been a royal treat. The dish comes with garlic mushrooms, which are unfailingly delicious, and the eggs are always perfect. Want to watch the calories? Well, I don't know if the salads are super slim, but they're simply delicious. Sometimes it's hard to sell a salad -- not here. I think this spot is definitely one you warm to over several visits, but it's become a firm favourite of mine. Wi-Fi, coffee, brunch, cocktails, home made iced teas, cool music, fairly friendly staff, interesting interior, and good vibes make this one of my go-to spots for almost any occasion. read more

We had a Saturday brunch and ordered the Mammoth (basically a large fry-up) and the Eggs Florentine with an extra Smoked Salmon. The fry up was better than usual - it wasn't greasy at all and was a generous portion. It could have been slightly warmer but it was still good. The Egg Florentine was supposedly really nice but they were a bit stingy with the Hollandaise sauce. The drinks were also really good. I ordered the California Sunrise which tasted literally like skittles. It's made with orange juice, cranberry and some other ingredient that I can't remember. I would order this if you have a sweet tooth. We also ordered a Big Tom (tomato juice) which was brilliant. Perfect spiciness! The atmosphere is probably the best thing about LS6. Its very good relaxed, social and studenty. They have a fun wallpaper and bar. It would be a perfect place to come for brunch with friends if it wasn't so busy. Unfortunately, the service was NOT good at all. We arrived at midday and only got our food an hour and twenty minutes later. When we arrived, it was completely packed so we sat at the bar waiting to be seated. When a great table with a view cleared up, we expected to be seated there (we were the first in the line) but two other people were who just came into the restaurant snatched it up. I don't blame them, but would expect the staff to kindly inform them that there is a queue. They didn't. I even pointed it out to a waitress who didn't do anything about it, despite acknowledging that we should have taken that seat. We were seated a few minutes later at another table that we had to share with other customers. It got worse when we had to wait another hour to be served. I had to follow up with the waitress to get our food. Bear in mind, an hour for a fry up is a lot... It was made worse when someone seated on the same table, about 15 minutes after us, was served before. They were friends with the waitresses which explains it. Others around us also did not get their food on time. It seems like a common issue with LS6. There were other smaller issues with the service but I don't want to drag on. LS6 is a trendy little cafe-restaurant in...LS6. At Hyde Park corner, just before you get to the pub, you will see a pretty old-school looking establishment with rickety copper lettering and furniture. LS6 definitely tries to be vintage, retro and unique, and it doesn't fail in this respect. The décor inside the place is of a similar style, providing you with an interesting place to eat your food. The food, luckily, is not stuck in the past - salads, sandwiches, and some tex-mex influences on the menu are evident, and this simple, casual menu works well in such laid-back surroundings. If it's not raining (unlikely I know), customers have the opportunity to sit out on the main road and watch the world go by. Prices are fairly cheap, and while service can be slow, if you want a good meal, and (more importantly) want to be seen in the coolest place in Hyde Park, I'd head down. read more

Fed up of takeaway and fast food in the Leeds area? Have a walk ( I say walk be ause you will struggle to find parking) to LS6 cafe and restaurant. LS6 is Hyde Park's most popular cafe and has a brilliant reputation as being a classier place to eat in the area. The theme is retro (much like the boutiques either side of it) with 60's bubble clocks, tables, LP wall art and menu's made out of vintage vinyls). The theme is very fitting to the area and the vintage clothing worn by the customers. The menu for me is just perfect with organic vegetables platters, humous, Greek salad dressing, piled up sandwiches and tasty chocolate fudge cakes. The menu is Greek based and uses all healthy ingredients to create a beautifully presented meal. For those that don't like the organic options there are a variety of meatier options such as burgers and chips (also served to precision). The staff are lovely and more than helpful and the service is quick! Prices are a little more than the pubs and cafe's in the area but I feel you get what you pay for. In the summer months my favourite thing to do is sit outside LS6 with a cup of tea and magazine to watch the passers by before a walk in the park. Love it! read more

I cannot believe i've never said a word about "the clock cafe" (its the same thing, you'll get it when you get there). LS6 was literally my only stop for every weekend.... well every hangover, i ever had in hyde park. Its been through a bit of a face lift of late and perhaps lost a little of its cool in pursuit of being hipster. But the clock wall still lives and the strange vibe of being in a brik-a-brak store waiting for delicious treats. And though the inside might have changed, the output of food and drink really hasn't. The full english remains a staple and many of the other dishes are brilliant. Life saving smoothies to accompany make LS6 still the place to be. A great relaxed little place with really friendly staff. LS6 is right at the heart of hyde park and could almost be called its soul (if i didn't hold my heart for the brudenell). Still, the clock cafe is well worth a nose if you find yourself that way with no idea how to spend the time. read more

Best brunch in Hyde Park / Headingley. Want sexy eggs? They're served all day, from eggs benedict to huevas rancheros. Then once you feel ready to face the day, have a sexy ale! Great to see Mary Jane (Ilkley brewery) on tap. My only irk is that the breast feeding friendly sticker on the door did not reflect the staffs attitudes, they seemed fairly awkward and our table service suffered whilst they avoided us. This review is of some time ago but still. I went in for breakfast with my mum and the food was lovely. Vegetarian all day breakfast is a really good deal and come with veggie sausages and everything. Mum had a bacon roll which she found to be expensive for what it was and the two cups of tea seemed on the deer side. We would have probably been better off getting lemonade or coke. Overall good experience, wait staff were okay but a little pricey for what it was. read more

I have a love hate relationship with LS6 firstly the good stuff, I like the trendy ambience and the choice of beers is really well received. It's also not too pricey for a decent pint in here and for those that require there cockles warming they have an array of lovely hot chocolaty delights and coffee to comfort those winter shivers. The staff here are super friendly and always really cheerful and chatty which is really pleasing. Now I'm sorry but the bad stuff about this place, although I do love the trendy-we're-so-chique-we-don't-need-to-bother-refurbishing because it gives it that retro café feel. There were holes in the seats for the love of god! this place needs a little TLC in the way of small improvements. I love the mismatch chairs and the arty feeling space but when I have to sit beside a gaping hole in the seat the 'retro' feeling is quickly diminished. The service here is really rather slow so if you want a quick bite or a swift pint go else where! They have table service for drinks but I'd recommend a speeder service going straight to the bar. On the particular day that I went it was mid week in the afternoon; I thought it would be a little busy with lunch service but not as busy as the weekend. It didn't seem packed out but service again took quite a while. It just seems that this place is very under staffed. I opted for the LS6 burger (no brainer really) and wasn't massively impressed for £9. I have genuinely made better burgers in my own kitchen. This is a great little cafe on Hyde Park corner. They do a fantastic meal at lunchtime or a relaxed evening meal. I've had hot and cold food here, as well as huge chunks of beautifully moist cake. They also have a massive selection of different drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The decor is fantastic and kitsch, and although it looks small and intimate outside, there's plenty of room inside - even if it is always packed out! read more

It was a tough decision to make deciding what to order - which ended up being the breakfast burrito. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was filling. Flavourful but not too rich. My only regret was not ordering the halloumi wrap to take away with me. The only faults I have was the organisation. Having fun a cafe before I can understand how things can get lost in translation. Our drinks were forgotten about, but quickly rectified. It was getting busy and the staff were trying their best to fit everyone in and dealing with customers who wanted to have a table for 6 between the two of them etc. Don't want to take that away from quality of the meal however. We ate here tonight, and the service was appalling. We were served by a boy with an asymmetric haircut and skinny jeans that no doubt cut off all the blood supply to his testicles, and mercifully ruled out future generations of his progeny. Anyway, he was immensely rude and flippant to us, and was too busy flirting with a waitress (also in skinny jeans) and admiring his asymmetric haircut in various reflective surfaces. He slammed our plates down and didn't bother to bring cutlery, and was consistently rude throughout the entire evening. And the food is way below average. Don't go here. read more

i go to the clock cafe maybe once a week. its pretty convenient as i live about 100m away from the front door! the coffee isnt bad, there's a good selection of teas and other drinks available. the food is maybe slightly abover average but i get the feeling to get the best money-to-satisfaction ratio you need to go in there with a student card! it does have a reputation as a trendy place and is usually occupied by the blond haired, blue eyed stereotype student girls who sometimes seem to take offence to the fact that a man with long hair and a leather motorcycle jacket (me) has just walked in for breakfast. although they do provide excellent comedy value. but this aside, for the money you pay it isnt bad and and it does have a very quirky decor and feel to it. the staff are friendly but on occasions can be slow to take orders. still, i find myself here just about every weekend! read more

This 'trendy' bar situated on Hyde Park Corner is usually occupied by female students with big blond hair, Ugg boots and loud, posh voices. These are the least of your problems, though. The service in 'LS6' or 'Clock Cafe', whatever you wish to call it, is alarming poor. The waitresses are very abrupt and rude. They often don't listen to what you actually order and often slam the the plate down when bringing your food to you. If you dare to ask them a question, after you have politely said 'excuse me' the will swivel around and shout 'WHAT?!' in an aggressive Eastern European accent. You are generally made to feel like you are a burden to them and I think that in some deluded way they think because they are working in a cafe that 'trendies' go to they have the right to look down upon you and treat you like dirt. It's almost worth going in just to be amazed by how rude the staff are. The food is average at best. If you were to ask someone who lives in the Hyde Park area of Leeds, about the service at this place they will almost always reply 'Oh. yeah - the waitresses are really rude'. A really annoying place. You are much better off trying somewhere else. read more

Well, there is much to be said about this cafe and im afraid its not all good! There are some saving graces in LS6, however the bad out weighed the good. We were looking for a local (within walking distance) place to eat as my fridge is alarmingly lacking all the necessary ingredients for a good Full English and have been meaning to go to LS6 for quite a while, but for one reason or another ended up going to another alternative. So as soon as you get through the decor you are hit in the face by two overwhelming things, the decor and the blaring music. The decor isnt my taste, i can kinda understand what they have tried to do, but in fairness being retro/kitsch is a more difficult task than putting items for that era around the place. Quality is key, and to be honest i dont think the things they use were even acceptable in the 70's. Leading on to the blaring music...... at 10am in the morning after walking through the park to get some food, there is no way in hell am i ever going to be wanting to hear music that loud i have to shout to be heard by the person im with, nor can i imagine anyone with a hangover welcoming music or paralleled volume to the night before. So we were told to sit where ever we liked and so we found a little booth room so we could try be away from the discotheque that was the main cafe. And so we began to wait....... and we waited.........and we waited. We even moved tables to make ourselves more visible to the waitresses, but alas we waited still. When we eventually got service we placed our orders and again began to wait, you wouldnt think a cup of tea (not the fancy kind) and a fruit juice could possibly take so long especially when the fruit juice is carton fresh. So 15 mins after ordering we received our drinks and we waited yet again for the illusive food, genuinely we were less than 2 mins from leaving, had the cafe been busy or explained the wait, i would have absolutely understood but well over 45 mins for a full breakfast? I think not! The breakfast however was okay, good quality sausage and bacon as well as a good amount of toast did fill the growing chasm of an absurdly long wait. The mushrooms did taste a little odd though truth be told. I was also informed that the toilets were not great at all, no one likes to stand in urine least of all first thing in the morning in a food venue. I also feel that the prices arent really that competitive with nearby alternatives. Pretty disappointed, i need to find a quality cafe in Leeds, and unfortunately LS6, you are not it. read more

I was asked to pick a cafe just out of town to meet some friends, and for some reason remembered that i hadn't been to LS6 for a while, I always remember it as having a student vibe but with very good food and friendly staff, and of course i remembered well. It has so many little hidden nooks and mixed junk that it does feel a bit like going into a cafe designed by a TV designer who's brief was to design a cool cafe with retro chic style etc etc It works. I have friends who call it the Clock cafe because of all the clocks on the walls. It may even be officially known as that,,,not sure. But by far the best thing about it is the food. Nothing to adventurous, but also nothing to dull. I opted for humous and pita bread , my friends had the Metze platter for one, and Mr B went for a burger with cheesy mexican fries or were they cuban, all i know is that there was a lot for a very good price, and they were delicious.. The service was friendly and not rushed, and we were left for a couple of hours to enjoy our food and chat. Many other customers came and went, and therer always seemed to be space to accomodate everyone,,, bit of a Tardis really. It's adventurous having tables out side as you are very likely to have a bus load of people suddenly stop in from to you and stare,, 'It's a busy road!' I heartily recomend this cafe to anyone with an open mind and love of relaxed atmostphere. read more

First visit to the LS6 cafe, but if I'm in the area again I'll return. Went with my husband and our student granddaughter when we returned her to Leeds after the Easter break. I had a very filling and enjoyable Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash Salad. Also enjoyed was the Chicken Caesar Salad, and the Chicken and Chorizo Wrap. We had tap water to drink, which came in a refillable glass bottle. Popular with the students in the area, especially for breakfast. The service was very good. I think it was the owner or manager who took our order. The Caesar Salad didn't come with the other items, as he had misheard and told the kitchen something else. It was soon rectified, and the chef brought it out himself to make sure everything was now OK. I can imagine it must get very busy at times, but there was a relaxed atmosphere when we went, and we noticed someone sitting with a laptop doing some work while enjoying their lunch. read more

Perect place to eat, drink, work, chill, everything. Recent times have seen the cafe given a makeover of sorts with a new menu and more reasonable prices. The portions are still v generous, but now all the food is even tastier. They also recently seem to have gotten a new bar manager on board, which has meant a new range of delicious cocktails are available as well. The decor is clean, cosy and comforting and there always seems to be room to sit. Pretty much all the staff are about as friendly and helpful as it gets, which adds to the pleasure of visiting. I can't fault the place - it ticks all the boxes a cafe of its kind should, and then some. Really pleased to have this gem tucked away so close to me in hyde park.. highly recommended! read more

With its new extention, Clock cafe still reigns supreme over the cafes in the Hyde Park Corner student area. A favourite amongst the local community, LS6 serves up a mixture of salads and sandwiches, nachos and curly fires in the daytime, with an evening menu for..err..the evening. The food is alright, better than a lot of the local competition, but it is by no means what I'd consider to be cuty centre restaurant standards. It's a nice place to go on a hangover, and watch the world go by, or just read the paper. The decor is fun and bright, using vinyl covers as the menu covers, and higgeldy-piggeldy furniture (including church pews), and there is a space upstairs, used for yoga. Before the rennovation, service wasn't always up to scratch, but since, they've started being a lot swifter and the waiters and waitresses are noticably friendly and more personable. read more
