SPLENDID!!! Absolutely splendid. Make sure you make a reservation or you will be waiting in the queue outside for empty table/last min cancellation. I'm so glad I asked to sit outside as the bathroom is right next to some table inside. I have an ick where I cannot eat comfortably knowing the toilet is right there. It started to rain a little and the staff was so kind to check on us to see if we want to have the umbrella opened. We didn't want to trouble them so we said no a few times hoping the rain will stop soon but it didnt stop. The staff was so nice to offer again to get us some shelter and we finally took it. They even change our utensils because it was rained on. The food is even better than their service. My god that was the best brunch I've had for a long time. Quick stop for tea and pastries- they also have plenty of food options if you're looking for a a full meal. Sweet scone of the day with clotted cream and jam was really tasty and hit the spot! Paired nicely with my earl gray tea. Strawberry and pistachio brownie was a nice change from a normal brownie. Not too sweet but still great brownie texture. NY stuffed cookie has Nutella in the middle, which is nice and chocolatey. Cute place in York! Probably great for breakfast/brunch!! read more

We were seated in the basement which was actually not very nice. The smell of damp and mustiness was unpleasant and it wasn't a nice place to eat/drink or spend any time at all. The drinks came quickly but then we were left for 20 minutes to wait for the food, and given the unpleasant surroundings, this felt like a long time. The UK is renowned for its B&B's, with most places, eager to uphold that 2nd B. But it so happened that my accommodations in York were basic and did not serve breakfast, so it was up to me to find one myself. After passing by several places as we approached the old city center, my instinct settled on Partisan. This was, overwhelmingly, the correct choice. It was early enough for us to get seated right away (though seats filled up during our meal.) I knew I had made the right choice just by perusing the menu: apart from a few of the standard British morning specialties, in the best way possible, it read more like something I'd expect to find in Los Angeles or San Francisco than in York. The dishes are progressive, using local ingredients, but fusing lots of international influences. We ordered the Persian Eggs, and also got one of the scones of the day. The scone was perfectly moist, with ample chunks of fruit. Freshly baked, it was must better than any generic scones you'll find at a hotel buffet. The Persian Eggs came atop a thick, filling cut of toast, and mixed fennel seeds, feisty spices, sweet dates, and yogurt. The flavors were habit-formingly good, and presentation was beautifully artistic. And speaking of art, nearly everything you see in the restaurant--even the furniture--is for sale. This is an excellent spot for brunch (and perhaps lunch) that I would likely visit quite often if I lived nearby. If you're here as a tourist, it serves as a great jumping off point to start your day exploring the city center. read more

Love this place! Whenever I'm in York I make it to this place ! Amazing food! Fresh local and really really delicious! The cakes and pastries are also amazing if you wanted to just pop in a grab something to go. Not to be forgotten but they do hot cocoa make from real chocolate and their coffee is smooth and dark. I have eaten here 4 times and have never been disappointed! The menu has special that change from time to time but never disappoints. After lunch today we walked into town and we pasted a Michelin star restaurant and I was like "why would I got there when there is such a amazing restaurant like Partisan! Partisan should be Michelin star." And ya that's how I feel ! If I lived in York this would be my brunch and lunch spot for sure. read more

This was the FIRST eating stop in York while my family and I were on a day trip there. As a vegan, I was about to be blown away by York's eating options. Going into this shop, I was expecting to have to pass on literally every pastry item (butter and eggs, people). I was expecting to be sad. BUT lo and behold, there were three awesome vegan pastries sitting right there. I ordered the raspberry cherry lemon one, and it was goooooooood. I also had a decaf soy latte. This is a fantastic breakfast spot, a little bit off of the main tourist path. I had the Persian Eggs (£9) and it was one of the more interesting breakfasts I've had. It was basically scrambled eggs with dates, yogurt, and Persian spices. It had just the right level of heat, the flavors were unique, and everything tasted fresh. The eggs came on top of a huge piece of high quality sourdough bread. My husband had the vegetarian full English breakfast (£10) and he enjoyed his meal as well. Both filled us up for a day of touring. Their coffee was also excellent. It's a cosy atmosphere and you will be able to admire the beautiful artwork as you eat. Just one tip: Don't wait for the bill! If I lived in York, this would be my regular local spot! Partisan was just what I needed on my trip to York. I was lured in by all the pastries in the window that looked all so scrumptious. The front of the cafe has a selection of goodies and the seating area is in the back area. There were a selection of salads on display in the front that caught my eye. Therefore, I ordered the selection of two special salads: a cauliflower salad with parsley and a summer squash salad. Both salads were FABULOUS. Honestly I cannot even explain all the delicious flavours and ingredients. The salads change daily; therefore, you never know what there might be! Also, I had a peach strawberry scone with jam and butter. Why can't I stay here? If you are on the West side of the river in York, I would definitely recommend popping in for lunch or tea! read more

Truly a wonderful experience!! Excellent service in the garden area, with the server knowledgeable and the owner engaged in great conversation at our invitation. Then the food!! I had pig's cheeks cooked to perfection with admixture of flavors of the meat with spices and vegetables. Onglet steak was marvelous - recommend following the chef's recommendation for the "doneness" of the cut. A must do when in York. read more

Superb pastries and breads. And some of the best scones we've had in 3 months in England. The 3 cheese and chutney toastie was terrific as was the watermelon and feta cheese salad, creative and unexpected. Avoid the English breakfast in a skillet, sausage underdone and eggs boring, but maybe that's standard? Espresso excellent. We went back twice, would go back again.
