I ordered for pick up a chicken fried steak dinner and 4 sides of bread pudding. Got home and the steak was not crispy on the outside like it normally is. This must have been DAY OLD as the steak inside was a light color and not good. Was actually gummy and tasteless. It was large but nowhere near what I usually receive, so I gave to my dog. Plus when I picked it up was told no okra was available and would not be all week so I substituted mac/cheese. The jalapano cornbread crumbled and fell apart, they must have forgot the eggs. The food was the average quality of any Luby's restaurant. What makes this Luby's below average is that they had an episode of Doomsdsy Preppers playing on one of their big screens. In this episode, a family ate worms, crickets, and also boiled three scorpions alive - and then ate them too. This is not great content for people to view while eating. read more

If you've gone to high school and eaten at the cafeteria, then you know what you get at Luby's. Basic cafeteria food. You get in line, get a tray and silverware then point to what you want and they dish it out for you. Not sure I even call this a restaurant. The place seats 200 people and closes at 8:00pm. The curbside service was HORRIBLE. They told me the order would be there in 8 minutes so I rushed over and waited 20 minutes. They got the order wrong, and sent a manager for the sole purpose of intimidation. He did not apologize or anything. I had asked for a chef salad and they gave me a small dinner salad with an egg on top, I asked what that was and they said, "the salad you asked for". I told them I asked for a chef salad and the big manager told me "we don't sell chef salads!" It would have been nice if they could have told me that from the beginning. I've never had Luby's until I moved to the RGV, and I'm sure they're everywhere, but it never was an easy option. I like their concept of cafeteria style dining that is not a buffet, and they actually have a lot of options. This is a good, inexpensive option for comfort food, as their appetizers are always just that. Their mains are pretty heavy, usually with some kind of breading or carb to the protein option, and there's always dessert! They often have holiday options, such as Thanksgiving dinner, pecan pie, and the sorts, and the service is on point. The real issue at hand is that I've heard multiple stories about people getting gastroenteritis from Luby's, and a close experience of gastroenteritis from their catering. I'm not sure if Texas (RGV) has the cleanliness ratings for restaurants (I haven't seen them posted at restaurants), but they might need to reevaluate their food handling... read more

I recently tried this location and the food wasn't worth the price. It was a bit cold, there were flies trying to get into our food and at one point successfully landed on it. The workers were very unprofessional. One of the waitresses said "I just wanna f*cking go home". This same waitress then proceeded to eat food with another worker while on the clock. Meanwhile, the other workers were complaining about their schedule and making fun of each other. At one point there was even a loud yell and crash in the kitchen from a worker dropping a bunch of dishes and by the sound of it, breaking them. Overall, the only reason I even gave it a two star is because there were at least 2 waitresses that were nice and even though the food was cold, the dessert was very good. Will I be choosing to go back? Most definitely not. I hadn't gone to a Luby's in about 10+ years and this being my first time trying it again really ruined the entire experience. This location usually has fairly good food. Not awrsome, but good. The fried chicken breast had a tasty crunchy coating but when I cut the bone, the bones were blood red. Also, the cheese sauce for the brocolli was like water and ran into the chicken and mashed potatoes. The wheat roll was stale, the green beans were okay but lacked seasoning. It was really clean and had a really peaceful family enviroment the people serving the buffet were really attentive and only wanted to give the freshest food. the bill came out cheaper then expected and if you weren't satisfied with a piece of food they would change it. O got a slightly burnt bread and the server for the table immediatly changed it it for a much freasher bread. They server was good natured and helpful. I loved the food especially the fish and mashed potatoes. We ate there ten days ago. Large roach was on window shade next to our table. It flew on my husband. We called bus boy and waitress. They killed the roach and moved us to another table. We were discreet and did not make a scene. We did call the 800 number on receipt and reported incident. Within an hour the manager or manager on duty called and was very rude. He repeated over and over they do not have a roach problem. I never insinuated that they did. He then blamed it on the rain. The rain actually happened after the roach incident as we had to wait to get to our car due to rain. He then berated me for not notifying him in person. Very rude. Very unprofessional. I don't usually do this but I am highly dissatisfied with this location.I usually,at least twice a week eat from this location via lubys to go with my family.We usually dine in at another location but in 20+years of enjoying Lubys I have only ever had one other complaint.Till now,my family and I went to this location on July 1st at 3:20p.m now i don't know how this location is run but when we arrived,there were very minimal options to choose from.One of my family members and I actually decided on Luby's because we enjoy and felt like eating the meatloaf,there was none.so after waiting in line for maybe 20 min because people were having a hard time deciding on what to get since there weren't many options.I decided on fried fish and my niece decided not to even eat and chose what was available for her own children.my two kids chose macaroni along with her two children and well of course there wasn't any,the wait for that alone was another 20minutes! I usually get new potatoes and of course ...none.Well,we all waited for macaroni which arrived nearly the end of our meal along with our regulars rolls.smh. There was no tartar sauce and no butter so we waited for all that as well which arrived almost at the end of our highly disappointing meal.i told the cashier 'Clarissa' of my disappointment as well and well it was disregarded. Not surprised by this either because in line I mentioned to the girls who were serving the food I was requesting or should I say who were telling me "we don't have it" to everything I was asking for. Safe to say I will not be going to this location to pick up food to go anymore much less dine in and I'm now wandering if the other location has gone down now after this experience. Luby's use to be known for their home baked food, but after a takeover by another restaurant, they went to frozen food and the quality went down. However, they have returned to some home baked and some frozen. My favorite is the baked fish with tarter sauce. Home made veggies and a baked roll. The wheat or white is equally good. Their pies are to die for and on this I would give six stars. They are pricey, but at holiday time, they put some of them on sale for half price. Overall, we enjoy the atmosphere and food quality. One complaint a relative has is the portion size, but for us it is adequate. read more
