    Well-designed farm rustic interior!

I wish Lucha Libre was in my hometown of Los Angeles! High quality, creative and incredibly tasty Mexican fare -- loads of vegetarian and gluten-free options. Fantastic service! We had jalapeno fish cakes, veggie (grilled hallumi and pineapple salsa) tacos, chicken tostadas -- and they were willing to amend items to suit our preferences. I'd go back in a second if I wasn't so delightfully stuffed!!!

Our favourite place to eat in Liverpool. We love Mexican food and this is some of the best we've eaten in the uk. Highly recommended.

I'm a little biased when I say that Liverpool is the greatest city on earth, but I don't care so…read moreI'll say it. Liverpool is the greatest city on earth. I've been away from it as a permanent resident for almost 20 years, but whenever I go back I feel like I've never left. If that sounds too much like a cliche then tough I'm not apologising for it. The Victorian streets, the imposing townhouses, the gothic architecture and the lively atmosphere that fills every nook and cranny of this marvellous city I just can't get enough of it when I'm there. As with most large cities there is a generous helping of world cuisines on offer for you to chow down on pretty much 24/7? On my recent visit I wandered up Bold Street. A collection of bohemian shops, restaurants and bars it sits right in the centre of the city. With the bombed out church at the top, don't ask me what it's called because I haven't the faintest idea. And the busy main shopping area at the bottom. In between is where the chaos ensues. Students scurrying around looking for that all important student discount sign in every shop window trying to grab a bargain, businessmen rushing out of the railway station dashing for a cab trying ever so desperately not to spill that rancid over priced Starbucks down their cheap pin striped suits. And then there's the day dreamers. The wanderers who meander from one side of the street or the other, peering through the polished windows of desperate vendors vying for their hard earned cash. Amongst all this delightful madness is a plethora of eating establishments. Italian, Indian, Chinese, Greek, Nepalese, Thai, Mexican and even French. Oh and of course not forgetting the vegans!! Theres even a place for them. I found myself walking into La Parilla. A Mexican restaurant situated on one of the street corners just up from the railway station. An eccentric looking place from the outside with a stereotypical Mexican bandit character playing a guitar in the doorway entertaining passers by and diners alike. As we walked in we where greeted with a friendly smile by a waiter who has asked if we'd booked. We hadn't! I do long for the day when I can walk into a restaurant ask for a table and they ask "have you booked?" And I reply "No don't you know how I am?" But anyway at the moment I'm a nobody so I have to be contented with either being told no and asked to leave or being put wherever they can't for me? Luckily on this night it was the latter. We where seated in the window at the front of the restaurant. The interior was charming if not a little tacky. But I honestly don't mind that. I don't really like restaurants to be prim and proper. I like the eccentric and shambolic style some exhibit. It gives character to a place and provides interesting talking points. Service was speedy our drinks order being taken strait away. Desperado beer and a gin and tonic! The menu is quite extensive and with a lot to choose from it was difficult to make a definitive choice. In the end I ordered a mini chicken filled tortilla wrap with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. It was very nice, presented well and tasted delicious. Not too heavy and not too greasy. The flavours burst through every mouthful. Fresh, vibrant and totally moorish it was a lovely starter. The salsa was freshly homemade none of that jarred Doritos watery puss they call salsa. For the main course I had one of my favourite Mexican dishes, the Chimichanga. It was basically, and I didn't realise at the time a large version of the starter. But this came with a delicious sauce topping and rice that really completes the dish. Crammed into the tortilla was chicken, peppers, onions, and garlic all swimming in a lovely creamy cheese sauce which was silky and smooth like liquid chocolate on a winters night it was divine. The actual size of the tortilla was colossal! But I tackled it with all the gusto I could muster and got through it. Every mouthful a delight, lip smackingly good it was a pleasure to eat. It was a meal well worth the struggle to get through. The waitress came over to see if all was ok. I refrained from firing a distress flat into the air and asking for a stomach pump, everything was splendid I replied. The main meal was over with. I had that feeling of elation and regret all at the same time. I swerved dessert because I was just too full. The bill came swiftly and we paid. But not without finishing those little minty chocolates they give you. There's always room for them. Although I did rather feel like Dawn French trying to cram in that last Brussel sprout! All in all this was a great visit and a great place to eat. It's fun, vibrant, entertaining and the food is incredibly good. I'd definitely recommend it and I shall definitely be returning the next time I am in the city.

The entire establishment was cleaner than any Mexican restaurant I've ever been in (which isn't necessarily a good thing). The food was below mediocre. It's a sad attempt at Tex-Mex. For £12 I expected a bit more than tinned food on top of bland tortilla (not the mention £5 for a modelo). Nothing on my plate tasted fresh, and from looking at the plates of my party, nothing else looked fresh either. The presentation was nice and the kitchen did what it could with the ingredients given. Again, the staff was great, the atmosphere was fantastic, the presentation was on point. The food just didn't taste nice. Mexican food is about freshness. You need to be able to taste where your food is from. Cilantro, peppers, local sourced vegetables and meats are of paramount importance. It wouldn't take much to fix these problems, but it was a shame to leave feeling as dissatisfied as I did.

There are Alambre de Pollo, Estofado and my personal favourite: Cochinita Pibil. Make sure you try this one! It's a traditional Mexican dish, a pork and orange stew with onion, garlic, tomatoes and much! Delicious. There are a few desserts to try too, with my selection being the Banana Chimichanga or, of course, the Churros. The drinks selection is also great with Mojitos, Margaritas and the ever-lovely Modelo. The restaurant has nice, dark, lighting. This is a personal preference of mine - dark is good! The staff are always very helpful as well. Overall, Savina is a fantastic Mexican restaurant that offers both something familiar AND something that you might find new and exciting. It is also a great place for groups to go for celebrations. This place only opened four years ago but has come on in leaps and bounds and now attracts a very trendy and upmarket crowd who are not afraid to splash their cash. The food and drinks here are exceptional and there is a variety of Mexican beer on offer which I have grown to love as it certainly washes down a hearty meal well. The food is mouth watering and there is so much to choose from that it may take some time for you and your fellow diners to decide. This month they even made a graduate menu to entice finishing students inside and this really sums up the friendliness and care that embodies Savina. Take a look at the website and you will see photos of people enjoying themselves in sombreros and generally having a great time. Savina is fun and classy and most of all tasty.

If there's one thing I love, it's a bloody good Mexican meal. Burritos, enchiladas, fajitas,…read morenacho, chilli, quesadillas - you name it, I love it. So imagine my delight when I discovered this lovely slice of Mexico on Waterloo's South Road. As with many restaurants of its ilk, La Parrilla lays the whole Mexican theme on pretty thick, with various decorations and ornaments adorning the place. The décor of the restaurant only serves as a distraction for the diner until your food arrives, which is absolutely delicious no matter what you have. I have managed to sample many of the different types of dishes available (can you tell I've been here more than once?) and would highly recommend the quesadillas as I am a big fan of their gooey, cheesy texture and tasty fillings. They also do a good few different cocktails which are well worth a try when getting into the Mexican spirit, with a selection big enough for even the manliest man to find something without a pink umbrella sticking out of it.

All of the meat, fish etc is top quality and everything tastes delicious from the little dish of marinated olives you are given on arrival to the steak and fajitas. I loved the chili chicken starter. The restaurant is INSANELY clean - you can see into the kitchen and it's spotless as are the restrooms. The staff are super friendly and helpful. It would be a great restaurant for dinner with the family, a hot date or a night out with friends.

Booked in for 8pm on a Saturday night, we headed down the incense scented steps and descended into the darkness of the restaurant. The front of house desk is a slot machine, and we were pointed in the direction of the bar to wait until our table was ready. The drinks menu includes cocktails, hard shakes and floats, beer, wine, and cider. Not wanting to start down the road of a white wine hangover the next day, I opted for a cider. Not having any names I recognised, I went for a Jeramiah Weed - tasting not unlike JD & coke, it was unusually delicious! Our table took about 15/20 minutes to be ready, for which the front of house were eternally apologetic and resulted in a free round of drinks, but this just meant we had some time to take in our surroundings. We're talking neon, bricks, bars, wire, photos of criminals, doors marked with incoherent numbers, and boxes marked in the same way to represent convict's belongings. The menu contains everything you could wish for; wings, ribs, fried lasagne bites (yes please), burgers, fries, and steak. Unfortunately for us, they didn't have the lasagne bites, mac & cheese, or bacon wrapped maple onion rings - but we sure made up for it... Our table contained a whole butter basted poussin, bbq brisket, chorizo fried waffles, wings with both tequila lime & frank's buffalo hot sauces, padron peppers, two portions of fries, and two portions of slaw. Served up in the same aluminium trays as Yardbird, it's a down and dirty style of eating (though knives and forks are obviously provided!) Top items had to be the poussin, with a perfectly crispy skin, and the chorizo fried waffles, with little pieces of chorizo and a spicy chipotle sauce. Padron peppers, which are currently a personal obsession, provided a vegetable on the table, and the slaw was vinegar based rather than mayonnaise, meaning extra greenery that I could get involved with. Wings had a nice spice, though I've come to the conclusion I prefer the sauce based kind, rather than the breaded ones served up. Although the brisket had the perfect texture, there was a bit too much bbq sauce for my personal taste. Desserts included fried oreos, ice cream 'sliders' with brioche, and pecan pie - that's if you have enough room... A great meal with friendly service; hopefully next time we can have room for something sweet!

Was being served by 3 staff who, at different times, within 2 minutes, each asked if we were enjoying our food. They tried to take our order twice so no communication within the team. What started as being quite funny quickly turned annoying as we weren't left alone to eat or talk. Prices could have been lower. When it came to paying we struggled to pay on card because of the signal underground, which ate up another 15 minutes of our night. Would not recommend and would not go again.
