I live in Transcona and bought some bittermelon karela all the way from Jefferson. It looked freshly packed, so I didn't open the packaging till I have to cook it. After only 3 days, upon unpacking I was shocked to find that there were white molds behind the fruit. Called Lucky Jefferson to inform them and was hopeful I could exchange the items like seafood city and superstore's policies are, but they said I could not return or exchange them. I will never trust fruits and veggies that are packed again. And will never buy from Lucky again. I'm so disappointed. read more

Big supermarket with a to go food place inside the store, big parking space, has a bakery with a lot of pastries and also sell baguettes, even though it's a Chinese market but 80% percent of customers are Filipinos, noticed a majority of items here also catering to this community, for some reason the Butcher shop carrying all the fresh meats but the seafood section doesn't have fresh fishes, all are frozen, I mean it's my first time in Canada, but is it too hard to find fresh non frozen seafood around here, either frozen or dried, hmmm read more

This is easily the best ethnic supermarket in Winnipeg. Unfortunately it's quite far from downtown so travel is quite hard for me, but I will definitely come here from time to time. The supermarket is larger than other places like Young's, and hence offers a larger variety of ethnic products, such as rice noodle rolls, ethnic sauces, and soups of various kinds. They also have a respectable collection of western products, that is those that you can find in a typical Safeway store. I also find their BBQ pork the best in Winnipeg (although to be honest, Winnipeg kinda falters in that department). Lucky is probably the closest Winnipeg will get to the more well-known T&T chain in other Canadian cities, but it does a decent job for the market it serves. read more

Lucky Supermarket has a casual food court style eatery in the grocery store that has its own dedicated check out line. There's also a small dining area with about 10 or so tables. Overall, this is a clean, fast and cheap place for a quick meal or take home alternative. Lunch hours can be quite busy and the line up for the food can be a bit confusing as the dim sum line and the combination food line intersects each other in a odd way. Also if you are there to only order a Vietnamese sub, you might feel like you are cutting people in line because it's at the end of the food stations. Very odd set up. There's a small area with lots of bamboo steamers producing several popular dim sum dishes like shrimp dumplings (har gaw), pork dumplings (siu mai), steamed pork buns, and sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. The dim sum dishes are under $4. I tried the shrimp dumplings (4 pieces for $3.69) - the shrimp filling was yum but the dumpling skin was a bit mushy. My friend enjoyed the pork dumplings and the sticky rice. Remember to ask for the hot chilli oil from the dim sum area, otherwise the cash till area only has that generic hot sauce (not Sriracha). They have combination lunches (Chinese & Filipino dishes) similar to those offered at the food courts though this place offers them at a much lower price. 3 piece combo = $4.99, 4 piece combo = $5.99 and 5 piece combo = $6.99. They rotate different items daily though the spring rolls and deep fried wings seem to the constants. I've seen stir fried crab legs, chicken/veg stir fry, beef dishes, and pork ribs. Despite the great combination deal, I didn't love the food but at these prices you can't expect too much. The fried rice was too greasy for me. The stir fried veggies (gailan or Chinese broccoli, carrots and mushrooms) didn't have much flavour to it. And the chicken wings with stir fried veggies were too salty; the dish was cooked well but less seasoning would've made this a better dish. There's also a bánh mì (Vietnamese submarine) station, $3.99 for an approximately foot long sub on a Vietnamese style baguette. Unless you say otherwise, the staff will put everything into that sub (which is the way you should eat it). Vietnamese subs are all about balance of flavours and textures so try one with all the fixings first! You can request for the sub to be spicy; I recommend the heat because it adds that right amount of kick to the sub. People put different types of meats in these subs but the more common version is with pork (in the form of a Vietnamese cold cuts). There's also pickled carrots and daikon (my favourite!), liver pâté, cilantro, butter, cucumbers and thinly sliced chilli peppers. This sub may scare off some people but the flavours are really great. Though the bánh mì here isn't the best I've had but it'll do in a pinch. There's also a BBQ station where you can order the standard Chinese style BBQ pork and "char siu" by weight (mostly for take home). A pound of it is about $6 or $7. Lucky has vastly improved on the products here, when they first opened, the meats were overly sweet. But recently, their BBQ meats taste so much better. The BBQ pork is crispy and properly seasoned and the char siu has the right amount of sweetness. There are some misses here but overall, good selection with good price points. Fantastic additional to Winnipeg. This Supermarket has an amazing butcher, frozen and seafood section. Very affordable. We purchased a bag of calamari rings for $4.99 and 2 Marlins steaks for $2.19. Also had lunch at the ready made area it was ok but nothing earth shattering. The noodles and spring rolls were my best dish and the chicken legs in my husbands. Looking forwarding to trying the BBQ pork and duck in future visits. read more

Cheap fresh produce as expected with many asian grocery stores, I was able to find everything I was looking for at a relatively inexpensive cost. Well worth the extra driving time! read more

Brought some BBQ pork from the hot food section. Black around the edge and staff didn't even attempt to cut it off. Hard like a rock, leftover from days ago and reheat. Used to be good place for hot food and bbq. What happened???? Grocery is ok but will never never buy anything from the hot food section. Everything seem to be burned and black. Most place will clear their leftover!!!! read more

Just came from the Jefferson location. Bought some Fried rice and some BBQ pork. Pork was good, rice was not for eating !!!How dare you charge $4.99 for $0.50 worth of rice that is HARD AND CRUNCHY. Not sure about the rest of the people, but not a fan of breaking teeth on rice that has dried out and should NOT BE FOR SALE. read more

Great prices on produce, and I always find something I've never seen before. Huge fish section. It's an adventure, and you get unique, affordable produce. Love this place. It's a little crowded, but maybe that is part of the charm. read more
