I was never a business or first class flyer, like ever! Growing up, I was lucky to go to Europe often, but we stuck to economy class for good reason, since there were five tickets to buy each time for a family vacation. I have not collected status enough as an adult (yet?) to visit lounges often, so I am more easily wowed by them. More seasoned, elite travelers might find this lounge boring and unimpressive, but I am going off of my own experience only.
Flying SAS (Scandinavia's tri-national flag carrier), there were no SAS specific lounges. We asked around at different Lufthansa points, of which there were several, and instead of being snooty, the employees were friendly. One suggested that our SAS Plus/Premium Economy ticket, which allows you access to SAS lounges, might work for Star Alliance buddy and Munich overlord Lufthansa as well. We didn't think anything of it when approaching the business lounge, but we were welcomed in with a smile!
Upon going upstairs, we were impressed by the clean, modern, open layout, which also didn't feel super crowded. The layout helped make it feel like you weren't packed in, and it truly felt relaxing. I liked the aesthetic touches that recalled nature, such as grass motifs, plenty of plants, and such. The drink options were staggering, basically anything you could imagine: soda, alcohol, juice, still and sparkling water... The food options were pretty solid too, nothing super heavy, but enough of a variety to make a meal if you wanted to. This lounge shows that it is in Bavaria with a wall of pretzels! This includes a plain pretzel option or the other type, basically a regular pretzel with a huge sheet of cheese melted on top.
There are lots of seating options, from comfy chairs to a business area with computers, printers, and such. The common thread here was outlets! They do not skimp on outlets, like many gates (and probably lounges) do, even in this day and age.
I didn't avail myself of them, but this lounge also has showers, which is amazing. Usually, I see those featured in first class or similarly hard-to-access lounges. read more
