They also have some toiletry items in case you forgot something, and a nice beer and wine selection. Prices are very reasonable, store is clean and well organized. We spoke Italian, but from what I could tell the staff was at least bilingual (Italian-English).

Occasionally through the week, you will see swordfish and tuna. Prices are reasonable. Cheaper than back in the States for most stuff. Big favorite were the fresh anchovies. Gut them (leave the head and tails on!), rinse; sprinkle a little salt...then fry up til golden and crispy in some local olive oil. Serve up with some local lemons and a glass of local wine. Tonino Basso is something between a hotel and a bed and breakfast. They don't operate a 24x7 front desk, but have check-in and check-out hours. Hint: if you are arriving after about 5pm, send them an email or call them to let them know when you will be arriving. They are about EASY 5 five minute walk from the train station. I put EASY in upper case because some of the lodging services in Cinque Terre are... challenging to get to. Tonino Basso had to be one of the easiest to reach. Our room was a standard sized hotel by European standards, had a comfortable bed, an a nice private bathroom. We were checked in quickly and in our room within minutes. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The price was also reasonable. The WiFi worked great most of the time (it was out a bit one morning). WiFi in most European hotels is spotty at best, but it worked well here and was fairly fast. While you are here, check out the restaurant right outside the front door (Il Pirata), the food is definitely among the best in Cinque Terre. We were only able to stay for one night, but we will definitely be back and stay with Alessandra and her team at Tonino Basso Rooms again.

Just the right amount of Aperol, prosecco, club soda, and ice in a tall stemmed glass. Others I had elsewhere were too bitter being heavy on the Aperol and lacking enough ice. - Sunset: gin and Fetteman's of not so sweet sparkling pink lemonade but the stars were what was in it. We're walking into Old Town Monterosso back to our apartment and notice this man sitting alone…read moreenjoying his pasta. I double take and look at his carbonara. It looks amazing at a quick glance. We walk a few more steps and then turn back around to see it again and ask the man working if he can seat the 3 of us. He looks around at his tables (there are only 6-8 tables) and tells us to come back in an hour which seemed a little off putting at first. He tells us to try any of the restaurants next door because they are all his. But my mind is stuck on the carbonara. So we ask if he offers takeaway for his meals and he agrees to our carbonara and pizza order. Later I realize he's the owner and just very busy and focused on taking care of his customers and actually friendly. While we're waiting, the solo Italian man raves about the carbonara. Says he's an advertising salesman who travels often to the area and eats out often and this carbonara is the best. He liked that he focuses on quality, not quantity. Sold! It was one of our best meals on the trip. The bacon was cooked perfectly and crispy. Pasta cooked perfectly and sauce delicious, just clung to the noodles. Pizza devoured and he actually cut the pizza slices so we could share easily. I'm sad it was our last night, otherwise I would've gone for a second time. I'll be thinking about that carbonara for a while. Definitely worth a stop in Old Town Monterosso.
