We stopped in for a lunch at La Taverna today right as it opened. It is a minute or two off the road running along the beach so it is a little removed from the hustle and bustle. It is a good looking restaurant inside with a good amount of space. The service was decent and we had the sweetest waitress. For lunch we got three pizzas, two pepperoni and a margherita and pesto pasta. The food was good and enjoyable.
Service was slow but everyone was kind. I forgot something at my table as I was leaving and a server ran out to give it to me. She even got me a bag for my belongings, very kind. As for the food, it was only alright. Very high prices for small portions. More upscale than comfort food. I always like there to be a good mix between comfort food and the more "adventurous" things. This menu was very small with a few options on entrees. If you are picky I would not recommend this restaurant. The ambiance was beautiful, we sat outside on a gorgeous night. Maybe bring some bug repellent if you're going to sit outside, they were ruthless!
This place is a hole in the wall but the best experience you'll ever get in Monterosso. I am so happy my friend found this cute restaurant, the ambience was wonderful (loved the dog greeting us at the doorway), the service staff are so friendly and welcome! The gentleman was so nice I think our server's name was Barbara(??? I overhead someone say her name) but she was so attentive, asking if we'd like anything else. As you can see from the pics, everything we had is part of the Clean Plate Club. Everything was delicious, so flavorful but light!! Nothing like back in the States where eating pasta leaves you feeling heavy and lethargic. Some people may wonder about the portion sizes but we believe that the portions sizes are just right because the amount fills you up quite nicely! It's enough for one person, even if you share between two people. Next time we come back to Italy, we're definitely coming back to Monterosso for this fabulous restaurant. Thank you
Find this place. They are out of the way, on the far side os this little town, but they have a couple of very important things going for them. First of all the food was delicious. Carbonara was wonderful, really, wonderful. Their Spaghetti Bolognese was perfection. In both cases the pasta itself was cooked al dente, like it should be. Next, they are open from 11:00 a.m., and stay open through dinner time. It is nearly impossible to find a restaurant that has an all-day full menu in most places in Italy. Most places open for dinner from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. We often like to start eating earlier than 7:30 (because we sometimes don't eat lunch). Anyway, if you want a great meal between Italian lunchtime and Italian dinner time, then this is the place! The dining room is classy, the staff is professional, the prices are fair, and the food is delicious.
Different members of our group ate here multiple times during a short stay. The fried anchovies, a local specialty, were excellent but I really loved the ricotta and spinach ravioli. The service was friendly and the surroundings were lovely. We particularly enjoyed the local wines. Let your server recommend one!
There admittedly aren't a ton of options for dinner in the area but Taverna was a surprisingly solid option. We came in with no reservation and while the outdoor area was busy, indoors was nearly empty. Just two families in a big space. We started with octopus which was great. Well seasoned and good texture. So smooth, not chewy at all. Loved that octopus and would go back for that and a glass of wine in a heartbeat For my entree I got the salmon gnocchi. Loved the idea as it's not the most common pairing but thought it was just ok. The gnocchi was good but There wasn't very much salmon unfortunately. The cream sauce was super heavy though. And that richness really took over the dish; didn't finish it.
So so delicious. I visited Cinque Terre this past February, so during the off season. We decided to come here because 1, it was close to our hotel, and 2, it was one of the only few restaurants open that we could see. And I am so glad we did, because this place was amazing and succeeded our expectations. I got the grilled branzino, and I finished the whole thing. They gave us bread and a complimentary appetizer, which I noticed they gave to the other tables as well. The thing I loved about this place was not only was the food superb, but the service was awesome. I was starting to get used to the fact that Italians probably just don't care for Americans or tourists, and don't smile or aren't friendly at restaurants, but the staff here was so welcoming and friendly and helpful. They gave us suggestions, asked us about our trip and even gave us free shots of limoncello at the end of dessert. Definitely recommend this place. It's a Monterosso Gem.
Hanging out in a small oceanside town, sipping great wine and lunching on fresh seafood in Italy....what can be better? Food was great. There were 6 of us and we sat outside on a beautiful late October afternoon. The pasta, fresh seafood and the wine were all stellar. I highly recommend the food here. As with most places in Italy, the bread and apps that they place on your table are incredible, but please note that it you eat it - they charge you for it. It is not complementary. They placed a brochette on our table that rolled my eyes back in my head after tasting it. I thought it came with the food. Found out when the check came that it was not free. Even though we did not order it, as stated, if you eat it you pay for it. In this case, I had no problem eating it...and licking the plate! It was that good. Go, you will enjoy.
Best meal we had in Cinque Terre! Saw good reviews on Yelp. Off the beaten path. Great old fashioned atmosphere. Great service. I was craving grilled fish and boy did this deliver. Delicious grilled sea bass - best seafood I've had in years and only 25 euros! A bargain. My husband really enjoyed his spicy salami pizza too. Saw they had tasty looking steaks and pasta as well. Highly recommend! read more
Decent good spot in a nearby alley away from the touristy spots. Still on the pricier side, but what do you expect! Three of us stopped by for lunch and were seated immediately. Got the tuna steak, seafood pasta (in a foil swan), and fish, and a couple glasses of wine. Straightforward but friendly staff. Worth a visit if you're already in the area! read more

Different members of our group ate here multiple times during a short stay. The fried anchovies, a local specialty, were excellent but I really loved the ricotta and spinach ravioli. This was the friendliest place and best food we enjoyed this whole time in Cinque Terre. Pizza, spaghetti, ravioli, and tuna tartar were our favorites. The atmosphere was wonderful and clean and I can't say enough about the service. read more

After a long day of hiking, we wanted good food but didn't want the long sit down formally at a restaurant. So we walked up to the closest restaurant to our BnB and see if we can ordered take out. Thank you La Taverna for accommodating. The food was excellent. Me and my partner had stuffed anchovies, octopus salad and Caprese salad as appetizers. Both were delicious. And seafood spaghetti as main course, which is excellent. If we have more time in Monterossa, we will definitely be back for a proper sit down meal. read more

Just a block northwest of the train station, found this gem on the way to our rental. Friendly & attentive staff, nice family-run business, welcome to English-only speakers, and open during riposo. Opened with soft freshly baked artisan bread, then dipped in flavorful olive oil which could stand on it's own but I added their balsamic and himalayan pink salt for extra flavor. We ordered a baked fish with grilled vegetables and clams linguini in an asparagus cream sauce. Very flavorful, went down well with prosecco. Recommend the dessert tasting which provides a sampler of: panna cotta with caramel sauce (don't call it flan), whipped cream over fresh berries, tiramisu (wonderful still wet coffee-soaked base layer), a soft whipped pudding made with passion fruit, and finally a variation of baverese al pistacchio. I know tipping is not customary in Europe, but I was happy to break that custom here, given some of the less than enthusiastic service we received in Germany and Milan. They take pride in their food and service and it shows. read more
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS RESTAURANT! I came here with my family one night because it was near our AirBnB and I was so glad we did. As a matter of fact, we loved it so much we went back again the following day! The food was delicious and the staff were super sweet, especially the grandpa! I believe it was a family owned business so they really cared to ensure their customers were having an enjoyable time. On our first night, we tried the Tourist Menu! I can't remember exactly what was on the menu but I remember it being a great deal! It came with two courses of entree for the price of one! The first course that I had chosen was Spaghetti Con le Cozze (Spaghetti with Mussels) and the second course was Fried Seafood (Shrimp, Calamari, and some type of fish...). While the pasta was made to perfection, the fried seafood was a tad bit too salty. My sister decided to be a little special so she ordered off the regular menu and she got Penne al Salmone (Penne with Salmon). It was SO SO good. As much as I loved my pasta dish, I wish I got hers too. On our second night, I opted out for two appetizers instead of an entree and I got the Octopus and the Mussels. My aunt had taken grandpa's suggestion and ordered the Special of the Day, which was a seared tuna... It was so tender and so delicious... But the best part of this meal was their HOMEMADE TIRAMISU! I had deliberately eaten less just so I can have room for dessert. It was probably the best tiramisu I've had in my entire life. I wish I hadn't shared the dessert with my sister... Grr... read more
We loved our lunch here while traveling between towns in 5Terra. There was another English-speaking couple here that recommended the tourist menus so we went with that. The pasta dishes were incredible and more than enough. We couldn't finish the second dish. Be sure to try the pesto! The server spoke English well enough to help us order. We sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous day. Definitely worth walking up the road to this place. read more

Located in the new town area, slightly uphill from the water, a sweet, below street level, very tastefully designed, and warming atmosphere is what you will find here, as well as a very friendly, welcoming, and efficient staff. Most importantly, though, the most creative dishes imaginable. On-the-house bruschetta was a great beginning, as was the basket of fresh, artisan bread, dipped into locally-created olive oil. One of our dishes, spaghetti with large shrimp, truffle oil and a hint of cream of zucchini was deemed no only one of the best meals we had during our 12 day trip to Italy, but quite possibly, the best in a lifetime. The ingredients were so perfectly "married". Our other dish was pasta with the sweetest clams in a light, cream of asparagus sauce, the flavor of which lingered for several, wonderful hours. The gift of large shots of house Limoncello capped off a meal of a lifetime. read more
