It is an interactive museum where you can be a part of the illusions and take cool photos. Messes with your mind in a good way! One drawback is that the floor up usually has a perfect view of the Tower when it chimes on the hour and does tricks, but since the tower was closed that day (renovations) plus the 2nd floor exhibit was closed, we got a slight discount. Nevertheless, the first floor of exhibits was still fun!

I bought my…read moreticket online, and went to the Mucha Museum that was inside a mall, which was where the staff told me I was in the wrong place. Turns out there's TWO Mucha Museums, and the right one I bought my ticket for was a short walk away. Unfortunately, my cellular data for some reason REFUSED to work on my phone, and I had to figure out manually and cobble together clues from just looking at the map on google maps and use Chanel store's wifi to get to the Mucha Museum I had bought my ticket for. It's a small museum, and while I love Mucha's works, and seeing life-size posters of Mucha's gorgeous works in person was very inspiring, this was pretty overpriced. Much of the work displayed were his print work/lithos, and it would have been nice to see originals.

An overall outstanding museum with great variety, and a wonderful building…read more Natural history exhibits can get dry and encyclopedic, but they did a great job with the Evolution exhibit tying together narratives and creating connections. There is an awful lot of history to cover, and they do a good job hitting highlights and providing depth on certain topics. Really good amount of meaningful artifacts from all eras. Be sure to make the trek to the 20th Century history exhibit in the New Building, it's included in admission. There was a temporary exhibit, fairly simple but modern, on Bedrich Smetana, a composer I had only vaguely heard of but left appreciating much more. Considering the number of people at the museum, very few seemed to find their way up to the cupola. It's not super well labeled: just take any elevator to the top, great view (though Wenceslas Square will be a construction zone for a while).

The museum itself was very small, within a blink of an eye you were in and out. Much more effort could've been put in telling all about your masterpieces instead of putting them all in the same room. It seemed like the layout of the museum was intentional because it was not the easiest to get around......much like Kafka's life. If you think you cannot find a good vintage copy of one his books in Prague; try one of the Antikvariat stores. I found a pretty nice one in Czech from 1968.

We are glad we visited. It wasn't the most kid friendly of sites but we bought the audio guide and that kept him largely occupied. He was interested in the stories of Gollum. The audio guides and tickets were really expensive, by far the most expensive thing we did on our trip. A family ticket for 3 of us with the audio firs was about $80 USD. So that's the only thing to note. Make sure you set aside enough time and money if you choose to do the various sites.

The front desk worker very aggressively tried to upsell us on audio guides, which cost an additional 250 czk (10 euros) per person. We declined, and she argued with us, and then tried to add them on anyway! Having seen the collection, I am confident that the audio guides are not worth it at all. A very unpleasant experience. However, the docents at the individual synagogues were all great.

The complex stretches down to Lesser Quarter (Mala Strana), where you'll find several beautiful chateaux and palaces. One notable example is Wallenstein Palace, which is home to the Czech Senate and includes 26 houses and six gardens. Inside the castle walls, there's so much to explore: a stunning cathedral, multiple museums, the office of the Czech president, the Bohemian Crown Jewels, and much more. The entire complex is incredibly expansive--it can easily take several hours to see everything. If you're visiting Prague, this is definitely a must-see landmark, and taking a guided tour really helps you appreciate the history and scale of the place.

Compared to the Madrid Palance, Pražský hrad feels dusty. The Madrid Palace is opulent and had air purifiers in almost every room. Pražský hrad has rooms that are almost unbearable to stand in due to the allergens and construction. The carpet was dingy and it's mostly the gorgeous gothic outside that's the draw. All in all, I don't think you need to have a guide for Pražský hrad and I could see buying entrance tickets and being perfectly content with your choice.

I'm terrible at history, but I really enjoy learning about the history of the places I travel to. I don't know too much about communism, so I thought that the Museum of Communism would be the perfect place to learn what exactly is communism, how it started, and how it affected the Czech Republic. Well, it was quite disappointing, and not worth the money. I came out of there still not having a clue about communism and how it started, and it was a small, shabby, run down museum. A little depressing, actually. I'd only recommend going if it's late at night, everything else is closed, you have nothing better to do, and you just happen to be in the area--don't go out of your way to find it. Speaking about finding it, it's not well marked and hard to find. The Lonely Planet book said it was above a McDonald's, and that was extremely helpful. If it weren't for that tip, I would never have found it, despite having the address. To get to the museum, you have to enter through a casino, which is filled with cigarette smoke, and there is no elevator, just stairs, so it's not accessible for people in wheelchairs, or for people who like to breathe.
