The restaurant isn't fancy, but it is a local spot that does solid pesto and other dishes. You will get some pesto for your bread, but you should certainly get the trofie al pesto - it's really quite wonderful. By far the best dish we had. If you don't get pasta with pesto, then you're making a very silly decision. We got the fried cheese as an appetizer and then the Pansoti with salsa di noci - it was good, but not even close to the Trofie al Pesto. I realize Pansoti with walnut sauce is a traditional food of Liguria, and you should try it - but especially during the summer the pesto is just to die for! House wine was good. We started with tagliatelle paglia e fieno saltate con ragù di vitello brasato al Vermentino (straw and hay noodles with a braised veal ragu in Vermintino wine) - what an explosion of flavors! Our second course was perfectly cooked tagliata di blonde d'Aquitaine con asparagi (sliced medium rare beef from the blond d'Aquitaine, which is a modern French breed of large domestic beef cattle with an asparagus sauce). This wowed us! We finished with the Il tortino caldo di cioccolato fondente con crema al moscato (a warm chocolate cake with chocolate, cream, strawberries, elderberry and raspberries). Everything from start to finish was beautifully prepared and presented. Our total cost for this delicious meal was € 55, which included the cover charge, 2 waters, bottle of wine, first and second courses, and dessert. We began our Easter brunch with two dishes (both of whose names escape me, unfortunately): a kind of hot, spinach fritatta nestled on top of a perfectly parmesan, cream sauce; and a fish cake that was a terrine of fish spiced with fresh ginger and citrus. The former was rich without being heavy, while the latter tasted bright and fresh. As secondi, we shared a steak in a cognac and honey sauce and a trio of traditional Genovese "cakes," which might be better translated as English "pies" with cheese. The steak may have been just a tad too rare, but it was seared beautifully, and the rosemary-spiced sauce was so good that all residual beckoned to be sopped up and consumed with table bread. The pies consisted of a leek and two spinach variations (one with ricotta?), all of which showcased the best in each vegetable and had obviously been prepared with homemade dough. We rounded off our meal with an Easter dessert of dolce latte fritto ("sweet fried milk") and a slice of torta di pistacchio ("pistachio cake"). Admittedly, the dolce latte fritto - crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside - was better than the torta, yet still the lemony pistachio filling on the cake was complimented well by its buttery crust. My only criticism of the meal would go to the house red wine, which although passable, was overwhelmed by tannins. In reading this review, you may be inclined to believe that the restaurant relies too heavily upon sauces to create flavor within its dishes; I would like to assure you that the dishes served with sauces were each sampled without said accoutrement, and the flavor was always palpable. Perhaps the most memorable aspect of our Easter Brunch was the impeccable service: The food was served quickly. The waiters respected our space, yet never veered far from the table. The owner, Roberto, was eager to interact with clients and to recommend items on the menu. Indeed, he made us feel comfortable immediately upon entering the restaurant and even brought us small glasses of a local, dessert wine to taste. La Forchetta Curiosa was not only a wonderful restaurant in which to spend Easter brunch while traveling, it is a wonderful restaurant.

That was disappointing to me until I started eating my pasta and then I was like, "what pizza?" But I think it's a giant pizza. Everything we had was delicious. They are part of the "slow food" movement, and the dedication showed in their food. We ordered: Lasagna - I've never had a lasagna like this. Very, VERY thin sheets of pasta supporting layers of tomato and pesto sauce. The portion size was on the smaller side. Fantastic. Pesto - When in Genoa, you must try pesto! Perfectly al dente tossed in a vibrant and fresh pesto sauce. Seafood pasta - special of the day ~ I think this had mussels and local veggies, was pretty good. Fish + potato - This was a toss-up, but a unique (at least to us) combination. Fish flesh is mixed with mashed potatoes. Prominent fish flavor and heavy on the tongue, likely due to fat/flavor added to the potatoes. Finished with a dessert (pine nut cake) that we honestly could have done without. Highly recommend the lasagna and pesto.
