This is a hole in the wall with good authentic Ethiopian food. There was only one man there who waited on us and cooked the food. He was super nice, we had a bit of a language challenge communicating with each other but his graciousness translated well. I got an Ethiopian beer which was refreshing on a hot day and the non-veg combo with injira bread was delicious.

The place itself is an extremely casual, hole-in-the-wall, mom&pop kind of place, so expect a very simple decor and homey meal. I phoned in an order for take-out and had their Kitfo "special" (with fresh jalapenos, recommended to me instead of the regular Kitfo) at medium-rare and lamb tibs at a mild spiciness. Communication was slightly rough but eventually got through and the pickup was smooth. The menu is relatively small, but focused on a core set of dishes. Noteworthy is that this place has the most traditional injera I've found in the area so far, as their injera has considerably more teff than wheat (and a notably more sour taste and less volume to it). I can't tell you if it's 100% teff, but it has that distinctive sourness and coloration to say that it's high. It's expensive to import teff flour so most spots will charge a premium for it if it's even offered at all, let alone serve it by default (absolute pro for this place in my mind, but folks may prefer the more common wheat injera). The fact they offer variable spicy level is a departure from most Ethiopian spots I know, but the flavor for the lamb tibs came up a bit short on taste so I can't help but feel this contributed. I will attempt to convince my brother to brave higher heats, but keep this in mind if you modify the heat down. The Kitfo was delicious, but notably quite spicy. They don't hold back when it comes to spiciness level! Each entree had a good portion size and got a good amount of injera to boot. Overall, I happily recommend it as a casual eatery for those looking for traditional injera in their ethiopian meals. Contrary to their name, it'd appear that they're open quite late too.

    Kitfo (medium rare)

We were here on Sunday and ordered Kitfo and Yebeg Tibs to go. Pro: Both dishes were outstanding, both flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend Kitfo (they can be rare, medium-rare, or well done, we got medium-rare) If you can't handle spicy, remember to get non-spicy when they ask. I didn't think Ethiopian food was known for its spicy level, so it took me by surprise how spicy it was (I can handle spicy food BTW). Con: The phone order process was a challenge. I asked for the Goden Tibs (Lunchbox Special), and they said they didn't have it. I then tried to order Kitfo, since I couldn't pronounce it, so I spelled it out for her, but it took a while to get the message crossed. If you are looking for their menu, go to Google and use their menu pics. Overall, although the phone order was a hassle, but overall, loved their food and especially the Kitfo (I would love to try the rare version next time).

Recently discovered this place and it does not disappoint! The restaurant has a small but homey atmosphere and offers a couple unique dishes here that I do not see at other Ethiopian style restaurants as well and different variations of some of my favorite dishes such as the kitfo. The customer service here is great as well as the owner is always present and constantly will check up to see if the food is great. This is my second visit here and the quality and service here has been consistent so far so I hope this establishment will see growth.

For the Jamaican Jerk, the potato was not too soft, and the veggie cutlets were flavorful. For the Red Curry, the sweet potato, fried tofu, and bell pepper were well also.

The spot we went to meet them it was dead, so we actually walked back three blocks to good karma!! We were lucky that jazz band was still playing and apparently they play every Sunday from 7 PM through 9:30 PM!! They had a number of different beers on top as well as some bottled beers. I really want to come back and eat lunch here!! Sadly, they only had two red wines and no white wines. The red cab I had was tasty and worked fine for the evening, but mainly the live jazz band was my favorite part!! Great environment, good sound system, and amazing live jazz!! Not to mention the one bartender, a young lady who was running the whole joint by herself!! She kept everything clean and organized, and she was very patient with each customer that came up when they wanted to sample different beers! I will definitely be back!!

I was informed that the patio is open and to order using a QR code at one of the tables in the patio. You have to sign in and create an account to order. It took me a minute to order. I wanted to try their specialty dishes especially because they have mushroom dishes and soy protein dishes. But by the time I was able to figure out how to order and sign up, I was pressed for time to order a meal and ended up ordering crispy spring rolls. Once your order is placed, you wait for a text to let you know your order is ready. Then I have to pick up at the window. Spring rolls were okay. I really wanted to try the crispy oyster mushrooms or the lion mane mushroom dish. Or even the Sea Fruits plate but I wasn't going to have enough time to enjoy them. The patio was fine. The food looked delicious in pictures, but eating in an outdoor patio, ordering from a QR code, and picking up your food from the window made for a sad and sub par experience.

Oftentimes when presented with vegan or…read morevegetarian options I generally opt for something else but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new, and I was not only not disappointed, but incredibly pleasantly surprised. First of all, the staff and owner are incredibly nice. They made recommendations for our meal so we could have the best experience. It felt personal and you could feel the chef's love and care with each bite. The space itself is small but incredibly charming. From the paintings on the walls, brick wall, cozy lighting, beautiful mural, and comfortable open seating, it really set the stage for a wonderful meal. Fox Tale Fermentation Project also has plenty of rotating alcoholic and mocktail options which pair nicely with dishes! I ordered the Cali Classic Burger, and although the protein fell apart as soon as I took a bite, however, it was delicious. These flavors are so complex and funky that you can't help but take another bite. Generally, in non vegetarian dishes, the strong flavors of the meat/protein carries the dish, but in these dishes, the condiments, veggies, and fermented elements take your taste buds on a journey beyond the dish itself! The Fox Sando that my girlfriend ordered was also delicious. The toasted ciabatta was the star vessel for the rest of the ingredients. Perfectly toasted with slight hints of char, it really absorbed a lot of the sauces and spreads. I was lucky enough to take the second half of the sandwich home and eat it for breakfast the next day. I was so shocked when the sando itself held up in the fridge and was delicious cold! The flavors absorbed themselves into the bread but didn't make it soggy. I attribute this to the fact the ingredients didn't need to be heated up again to be tasty! Overall, I would absolutely recommend Fox Tale Fermentation Project for anyone who's looking for something different and unforgettable.
