Lupita - Hot Margarita - deliciously hot - Mexican Near Me - Buenos Aires, C

We were wandering down the waterfront of Puerto Madero and the mid-day heat was getting to us. Lupita looked like they had a decent menu plus air-conditioning so our choice was made. The g/f ordered the Ensalada de Salmón y Aquacate (Salmon and avocado salad) and I got La Gringa del Patrón (Rib-eye steak with sauteed chorizo, tomato and smoked salsa with melted mozzarella and corn tortilla). Brought chicken salad by mistake, but this was soon corrected. The menu said a "vanilla vinaigrette" but there was no dressing on the salad and bottles of regular vinegar and olive oil were brought with the salad. The dish was listed on both the Main Menu (comes with salad) which said tortilla de maiz (corn) and the Menu del Dia (comes with drink) which said it tortilla de trigo (wheat). Not sure if there was a typo on the menu or communication problem and I got the Menu del Dia item (as I also didn't get the side salad). It was a very bad culinary experience that I can summarize by saying that the beef fajitas had been marinated in and served with...soy sauce and mound of rice. When I didn't eat any of it and didn't ask to take it home the sweet waiter asked if there was something wrong with it. I told him I'm from Mexico and the one ingredient that Mexicans don't use is soy sauce. He offered to replace the dish with something else but by that time I didn't imagine that anything that came out of this kitchen was going to be any good, and I was right. The follow up dish was just as bad as the first, but this time, for the waiter's sake, really, I asked to have it boxed up to go and gave it to a homeless man on my walk home. It was the worst Mexican food I've had in my life, although the server did do a very good job making me feel like I mattered. read more

This place was RIDICULOUSLY BAD. Being that we're in Argentina, we expected the service to be on Argen-time, but it was bad even for local standards. We waited a good 25 minutes to get our drinks, but it took a tedious 1 hour and 30 minutes to get our food. Despite the incredible wait, the server didn't once stop to ask if we wanted more chips or drinks, even though she passed our table over and over. Sadly, the order quality was horrible. I got the "burrito de carne," which the menu says comes with tomato, onion, peppers, sour cream and guacamole. It also comes with lettuce and papas fritas on the side. What I got was two small taco sized tortillas folded to resemble two wraps. The carne was there and it wasn't bad, but that's it. They forgot the tomatoes, forgot the onions, forgot the peppers, forgot the sour cream, and forgot the guacamole. Give me a break. The papas fritas were completely cold. As for the food quality, don't expect anything that resembles actual Mexican food. This restaurant serves what someone in Argentina who has never tried Mexican food thinks Mexican food might be like... and they're nowhere close. FYI they have no salsa, rice, or refried beans on the menu. So much for chips and salsa. We ordered a water 30 minutes before the end of our meal, but it never came because the server forgot. When it came time to pay, we pointed this out, but the server said there was no way it could be taken off the receipt. Insane. Overall, you can expect terrible service, half-assed attention to your food prep, food that tastes hardly anything like Mexican, and then overpay for it, including a "cover charge" of 35 pesos per person, just for the joy of getting to experience such a spectacle. I truly wonder how places like this stay in business. I can't fathom why anyone would ever want to return. Avoid this place. There are so many other nice restaurants in the area. read more

Our expectations were already low as far as the food tasting like authentic (amazing) mexican food, so at least we weren't disappointed there--but, the service was TERRIBLE. 1) We sat and watched 3 servers debate on who was going to bring a menu to our table. Playing on their phones, laughing, until finally a guy strolls over. Very impersonal, unfriendly--whatever, we were hungry and just landed in Bueno Aires. 2) 15 min later he takes our order. (Keep in mind they are not busy whatsoever--it was about 3pm so not like a major lunch or dinner rush happening. 3) Another 20 min goes by and we finally get one of our orders. A glass of water. Who knew water could take so long to pour? 4) About another 20 min goes by and our food arrives. The server again makes no eye contact nor apologies that we've been sitting there twiddling our thumbs for about an hour at this point. 5) The server never checked on us. (We really needed a water refill and definitely would have ordered another margarita had he come by.) And we were right. The food was pretty lackluster, although edible. 6) Lastly, I won't even go into how long we begged multiple servers for our check. Finally my husband went up to the register with the credit card and basically said "please ring me up now." Our snotty server rang us up, we were extremely annoyed, and it was a give-in we were not leaving a tip. The server had the nerve to ask us after signing the bill "Where is my tip?" I usually over tip (or at least leave something even when we are treated pretty poor), but the staff here were such assholes we walked out leaving them exactly what they gave us--nothing. read more

Just here for a beer and a shot. Great view great service decorated really nice inside. We're sad outside to watch sunset across the canal. Staying in Port to Madera. This is close to our place. I would come here again. Or cocktails how I have no comment on the food as I had none. read more
