The gift shop does have some amazing products and kitchen decor, so I have to keep my bank card firmly in my pocket! The food selection is vast, your typical cafe with soups, sandwhiches, burgers, paninis etc. There is also a buffet that looks to run during weekend lunch times. The individual tea comes in a silver pot, which is so much nicer than a tea bag being placed in a cup! It's a little detail, but makes you feel like you are eating out. My Grandpa had a ham and cheese sandwhich, which he didn't remark on which is a good thing. I had an incredible open chicken, coleslaw and pineapple coronation sandwhich. Would drive the 25 miles again just for that. I didn't partake in any fine pieces but the selection is vast and looks incredible. The afternoon tea seems like good value. The staff seemed a bit flustered, when I went to pay the bill the lady asked if everything was okay whilst sounding worried?! So not sure, if a bad day, but we had a great time so she had nothing to worry about.

Now that I know about House of Darrach, then I'm likely to plan this as one of my stops on the way to the west coast. As you walk inside, you walk through a bit of a maze of various clothes, foods, and (nice) souvenirs. It reminds me a bit of walking through the duty free shop of an airport after going through security. Then you find yourself looking at a delicious array of baked goods as you make your way around the corner... giant strawberry tarts, huge millionaire shortbread, and countless (ok maybe not exactly countless) other cakes and baked goods. Judging by the other food they had on display, I couldn't imagine that you would find much if any of it to be disappointing. I enjoyed my strawberry fondant and chocolate bake thoroughly, and my friend seemed to love her fruit scone.

Unfortunately, Herself had the inside track on this flyby, and before I could do anything I was unceremoniously yanked into the shop as she had been seduced by some trinket in the (admittedly very attractive) window display. Before five minutes had passed, she had grabbed several items from the clothes rail by the door and was heading rearwards to the changing room to try them on, while I mooched around like the long-suffering husband I am, trying not to look like a shoplifter as I browsed the goodies on display. Both the ladies on duty were very chatty and friendly, which makes all the difference in these small gift shops - although the sample dish of tablet on the counter also helped it must be said. They have a great selection of Scottish- and Glasgow-themed knick-knacks on display as well as more generic items, so you'll have no trouble in finding a gift for that special person in your life. However, although I was impressed with several items and earmarked them for future gift purchases (I particularly liked the hanging jam jar lights), on this occasion I managed to escape with my wallet intact. Not so my good lady, who came away feeling very pleased with herself and her purchases.

It's a sweet gift shop with a focus on sewing stuff too - you can learn how to make your own cushion covers, for example. I was in looking for a little housewarming gift and card for a friend and loved having a nosey around while the woman working offered me helpful suggestions and showed me some of the new stuff they had in. They have a big range of stuff; from jams and fudge, to candles, prints, kids clothes/toys, lovely fabrics and cushions, bunting and some jewellery bits and bobs. I liked how it's all presented and easy to find something nice without too much bother - I ended up just grabbing a card (The Grey Earl batboy card) and a wee tote bag as a present which was under a tenner. Hmmm?! It was only when I was heading for a wee bite to eat I saw this lovely looking shop. It was like a ray of light hit me, and I knew as soon as I walked in I would be able to find "something special". The lady was absolutely lovely and a great help. I explained what it was for and she came up with a candle beautifully wrapped with a personalised tag with my friend's name and saying happy 50th. It was perfect! The shop was beautifully laid out with lots of varied gifts for all occasions you can think of. Upstairs I found out was a wee coffee shop, but it was shut the time I got there, it's only opened for a while from 9.30am - 4.30pm. The lady told me they have lots of homemade goodies and their coffee is sourced from Matthew Algie. I will definitely need to stop by for their coffee shop next time. My friend was absolutely delighted with her present, so much so, she asked me where I had got it as she wanted to get something similar for her friend's birthday. Result! I cannot wait to go back, guess who's gonna be trying out a mocha?!

There's a few stores including; -Jenners -Catherine Kinloch -Misty Glen -Edinburgh Woollen Mill -Thorntons -Julien Graves ...So it's not the kind of place you could go on a shopping spree but it caters for tourists and is a pleasant place to browse. In addition to the shopping centre there's also a Sea Life Centre and if you're looking for some activities then you can hop on the loch for a spot of canoeing or paddle boating. Like Gavin, I find it a little odd that there's a complete lack of place to eat apart from a small cafe attached onto Jenners and a restaurant with the worst looking menu I've ever seen.

Besides restaurants and an aquarium (to which I'll give a pass), they have paddleboats and a "retail crescent." They do offer some legitimate services for exploring the park, such as kayak and mountain-bike rentals. On the upside, the park service has a large visitor center here which serves as a gateway to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. What I really wanted to do was hike around the vicinity above the lake, since I didn't have time enough in my day to climb Ben Lomond. I got plenty of pamphlets and then got the hell out to drive up the west side of the lake towards Luss.
