Many spots in Jerez are not open on Sunday, but they were. We did a tour and tasting. The tour felt…read morea bit artificial, like if you went to Disneyland version of Spain instead of real Spain. The facility is very large -- the tour kept going and going. It was neat to see it. It started with a short motorized "train" ride which was mostly unnecessary and gimmicky. The tour was almost full, maybe 40 people. Then we had a tour guide walk us through various buildings and explain various things about the sherry-making process. She was not a very good tour guide -- she made mistakes / corrected herself and her English was so-so. If you can afford this large facility, fancy videos, etc you can afford better tour guides. Near the end was a video that was kind of cheesy, but used multiple projection screens in a very cool way. Then we did a tasting of five sherries; they were all pretty good. Overall, the tour at Cayetano del Pino nearby was more authentic, friendly, small-group, and informative.

We took our tour bus for about 23 minutes from our cruise ship docked at the port of Cadiz to the…read moreBodegas Gonzalez Byass winery. As you can see from my many pics and videos we toured lots of large, medium and small barrels of wine stored in different locations including above and below ground. Then we had a sit down wine tasting of port and sherry wines. I felt the port and sherry wines were too sweet for me, but might be nice after dinner as a dessert wine. I prefer dry wines like a good Chiati. After our wine tasting we shopped in their retail store to purchase some wine and souvenirs. Our tour bus took us back to our cruise ship at the port of Cadiz. More to come regarding our next port of call in Lisbon, Portugal.

Ok this is really getting silly. You removed my review because it is about their product? well why…read morethe F* would you shop a winery? for their wine product maybe? Is me liking their Sherry not enough? do I need to review their bathrooms or something? sheesh ---------------------------------------------------- We wanted to let you know that we've removed your review of Dios Baco. Our Support team has determined that it falls outside our Content Guidelines (http://www.yelp.es/guidelines) because it is about a product. We hope you will continue to participate on Yelp, while keeping in mind our Content Guidelines. Contenido eliminado: Sherry is one of those under valued wines I think. It's under the radar, has a great price performance value. Dios Baco in Jerez maybe even a good value in a a region where the whole is a good value. Dios Baco's Amontillado sherry is super complex. Fruits, nuts, caramel. It's great as a sipping wine but also excellent to cook with. It's not quite Pedro Ximinez but it's its still tasty

Sherry wine...I'm completely hooked. And, this old Bodega does not disappoint…read more We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere from all the employees we interacted with here at Dios Baco. And, most importantly, we enjoyed the fabulous Sherry wine, Brandy and Sherry vinegar we were fortunate enough to taste. 12€ a person for a pretty extensive tasting. Bring a snack to cleanse the palate and a thirst for some fine Sherry wine! We set up an English speaker for the explanations on exactly how Sherry is produced and she was so nice and knowledgable.

We took a train to Jeres from Seville to visit this cherry winery per recommendation from a Sevilla…read morelocal. It was interesting going there alone without a tour guide. We arrived to the winery and bought tickets and then wandered off on our own because nobody told us it would be a guided tour. They basically had to find us in order to start a tour It's interesting that they lock the front entrance during the tour, so we were lucky we arrived when we did (no signs posted outside either). Our winery tour guide was this young Italian girl who was super knowledgeable about wine making, fermentation process, climate, soil conditions, and history. We learned not only about history of cherry wine, but also about the region and local customs. At the end of the tour we had cherry wine tasting with 5 different varieties. The pours were too generous, which is not a bad problem to have.

Out of the three sherry bodegas we visited (Fundador, Lustau, and this one), Diez Merito was one of…read moreour favorites -- perhaps the best overall because it had good tour, good variety in the tasting, good quality, and good prices. The tours at all three bodegas were good and were all similar, and this was no exception (very informative, with attractive bodegas and a little interesting bonus that we saw a wedding and reception that had been set up to commence right after the tour!) Of the three, Diez Merito had some of the highest-quality offerings yet was also the least expensive for both tour prices and sherry prices. At the end of the tour, we got to try several varieties, which was nice (fewer than Lustau, but far more than Fundador): fino, amontillado, oloroso, cream, pedro ximenez PRO-TIP: If you don't care about having a sealed bottle with the label on it, you can get much lower price by having it poured straight from the cask in their sales room! For example, their cream sherry -- our favorite of the ones we tried, and I'm not normally a fan of cream sherry, but I liked this one -- was 10 euro per bottle... but only 3.75 per liter from tap! (you don't have to bring your own bottle... you can buy a 1 liter or 5 liter bottle right there for less than a euro)
