The beds were comfortable. Amenities included wash clothes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, fan, full-length mirror, large TV, and bottled water. The shower pressure sucked but the water gets hot. Our toilet seat was broken which should have been caught by housekeeping. Overall nice place & we would stay here again.

I have previously visited the hotel for drinks and to hire a boat at the Marine, but this was our first formal visit. The grounds and location are exquisite and it's easily accessible. On arrival there were snacks and tea/coffee-all provided by the hotel and well received after our 2 hour drive. The Manor House is an award winning hotel and it is very easy to see why. The wedding ceremony was a traditional Hindu ceremony and was discharged admirably by the Priest Mr Ashok Sharma who went to great detail to explain the ceremony and involved the audience. I must say this was a truly wonderful ceremony. After the ceremony there was a drinks reception and snacks which again were provided by the hotel and tasted fantastic. There was champagne, juice and lassi and to eat there were fish cakes, chicken skewers, paneer and sweet potato chips as well as sandwiches and pastries. We then made our way into the main dining hall where John, Maureen and staff looked after approximately 200 guests with Swiss clockwork proficiency and precision . The entertainment was provided by the famous Edinburgh outfit VIP Entertainments along with the two renowned Dholis (drummers). Before the dancing there was the scrumptious five course meal of goats cheese tartlet, butternut squash soup, bacon wrapped chicken with vegetables, fruit crumble and tea/coffee. Kids had sausages and chips and there was a wonderful veggie main choice. The service ran smoothly and the food was absolutely amazing. There was plenty of wine and soft drinks to accompany. After this feast we were treated to some excellent entertainment by DJ VIPS and the Dholis. We welcomed the newlyweds onto the floor for their first dance and then partied!! We had to drive back home so couldn't dance into the wee hours....have to go back and try the bedrooms soon!!!! The hotel bar is very nicely done and the Belleek restaurant, which overlooks the lake through huge glass windows (one part is a conservatory with a starry ceiling), has an extremely interesting set menu for £35. Lobster and crab pasta dishes to start weren't perfect but had a refreshing taste. I had lamb for my main, three different cuts two of which were particularly melt in the mouth. My dad loved the veal he had. Dessert wise, he enjoyed a creme brulee although said it wasn't the best ever. I had a deconstructed rhubarb crumble which had some off putting elements (frozen green stuff?!) but basically won me over by the end. Perhaps overall slightly better in the attempt than the execution but that gap isn't massive and the charming location and staff, as well as the pleasure of seeing an inventive menu, make this well worth a try.

We headed to our lodge and shortly afterward the concierge arrived to check on us and to inquire if we would like a lake view lodge. We were pleased to be offered an upgrade and gladly accepted. We moved to the 2 bedroom lake view lodge, which was very lovely. There is a bedroom/bath on the main with a sitting room and bar area. Upstairs was a second bedroom/bath. Both spaces were very generously sized. We had a spa reservation but our travels that day brought us later than expected to the resort. Unfortunately we missed our spa experience but the spa staff called us to offer us an alternative treatment, date and time. We were pleasantly surprised by this level of attentive service. We enjoyed dinner at The Catalina Restaurant, which was expertly executed by Chef Noel McMeel and his culinary team. We enjoyed one of the most astounding dinners of our lives (Chef Noel's signature pork dish, roast duck, filet, steak frites). Our sons (in their early 20's), who were visiting Ireland for the first time, gushed repeatedly about their dinner at The Catalina. The next morning, our family enjoyed a wonderfully tasty breakfast buffet with a wide array of delicious choices (eggs, breakfast meats, assorted breads, fruit, cured meats and cheeses). Overall, the Lough Erne Resort is a beautiful property located on a gorgeous lake with a championship golf course, fine dining, and cordial, attentive and welcoming service, both in lodging and dining. When I found out he would be at the resort the week we were visiting Ireland, we actually changed around our entire Ireland itinerary to dedicate two days to staying at the resort and exploring this breathtaking Central and Northern part of Ireland...with the hopes of meeting the Chef and tasting some goodies prepared by the Chef who wrote one of my favorite and most used cookbooks, "Irish Pantry" http://fermanaghherald.com/2013/12/irish-pantry-noel-mcmeels-new-cookbook/ A trip to this resort was a great decision, this part of Northern Ireland is beautiful and a great change of pace from the busy bustle of Dublin streets. As pictured on the website, the hotel looks like a mix of an old and new castle, but the main building is only 11 years old. The property is built on lake lands, old castle grounds, and complete with a beautiful Nick Faldo golf course. This hotel was also host of the 2013 G8 summit. When initially arriving to the property the actual structure of the hotel was modern, somewhat disappointing compared to what I imagined but the breathtaking views of the lakes and lush greenery on the property are picturesque and stunning. The landscaping is immaculate. The rooms here are spacious and well appointed the décor in our room was a bit dated although still nice. Service was courteous and friendly. Our room had views of the lake, just stunning. Sadly, we did not have time to use the property as much as we hoped, the spa and the golf course will have to wait for next time. We did get to take a golf buggy ride around the golf course, recommended by the Chef and given by Frank the concierge. The buggy (golf cart) ride was a highlight to see the complete golf course, lakeside and foliage which is breatakingly beautiful. A visit to the fine dining Catalina restaurant was not to be missed and was a rewarding meal which we will not soon forget, definitely one of our favorite meals while in Ireland. Breakfast: The all important Irish breakfast was complete here, obviously more upscale, hot and cold buffet and order off of the menu all included in the breakfast package, coffee was outstanding, the spread was quiet nice with meats, cheeses, smoked fish, oatmeal...my favorites were the scrambled eggs, porridge, large cooked mushrooms and breads and jams. Notes: Check with the concierge regarding when the boats rides times and dates because they are only biweekly, we missed them as I assumed they were daily. Get proper directions before heading to the property, GPS kept leading us down private roads, and it did not help that we were driving at night. While in the area, there is lots to see and do. We love nature, so upon the recommendation of the Chef, we visited the Belleek pottery factory tour which was very interesting and worth a stop (the vouchers provided by the front desk got us in for free and also included a snack and drink in the cafe), Carrickreagh forest walk 2km up the road...we were the only people on the trail, so serene, and Tullen Strand Bundoran, with breathtaking views of land and sea, a popular surfing spot. I was so happy to take walks in nature and enjoy the pure beauty of this area without a bunch of tourists crowding around. By far these small day trip stops in nature were among my favorites during our entire visit to Ireland. Thank you Lough Erne, and Chef McMeel for a lovely visit, we hope to return.

An exceptional experience from start to finish! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was perfect…read more Check in was a breeze..we just went up to the gentleman at the desk, gave him our name, and he handed us the key to our room. It took, maybe, three minutes. He also confirmed our dinner reservations for the evening. In the lobby (which was more like a grand hall), they had a lovely array of complimentary coffee, teas, and pastries...all served with beautiful bone china. The castle is absolutely stunning both inside and out. The interiors are grand, and the grounds are just beautiful. We spent several hours walking around the park-like setting, and had drinks on the terrace overlooking the garden. Fantastic. We also walked through every inch of the interior's public rooms...don't miss the church! The entrance to our room was tucked away under a staircase. When I first saw it I thought, "Oh no, this room is going to be the size of a closet". When we went in we were taken aback. It was massive, with a very comfortable bed, sitting area, bathroom and a huge jetted tub. And it was clean as a pin, too. Dinner in the castle's opulent Dining Room was exemplary. Service was friendly and good-humored, and the food was very, very good. My wife had the salmon and I had the beef; both were perfect. We did the 3 course meal for 65 euros each, and feel it was worth every penny. Breakfast the next morning was just as good. It was also in the Dining Room, and was included in the rate we paid. Hot food was ordered off the menu, and cool food (cereals, fruit, cold meats, etc.) were offered buffet style. One last thing: as opulent, grand, and over-the-top as Markree Castle is, the one thing it wasn't was pretentious. You don't have to break out your tux, or sequined cocktail dress; as long as you don't look like you just rolled out of bed, you should be fine. At dinner I wore a white dress shirt and a nice pair of green jeans; I felt perfectly comfortable. Out of the 12 nights we spent in Ireland, this was our favorite we stayed. It's more than just a bed to put your head on; it's an experience, and an amazing one at that.

The drive into Markree Castle is a bit Agatha Christie, especially in torrential rain. Once you're there though, it's the perfect place to disappear to for a few days of relaxation. We stayed at the apartments on the estate, in a converted stables. They were really nicely set up, very comfortable. These are pet-friendly too, so our dog was able to join us for the trip. It was great to just be able to take her for a walk around the estate. Location wise, there's a lot to do for outdoorsy types. A couple of loughs and bogs are good for hikers, and a few nice pubs in nearby Coolooney.

Then staff kept a wide birth from us for rest of meal unless bringing dishes. To top it off the wrong main course was brought and I couldn't get anyone's attention to confirm so to be honest just ate it as didnt want to have any more interactions with manager. Room was nice with 2 exceptions exposed electrical wires in bathrooms and wallpaper coming of wall under the window. Easy fixes to my mind that should have been taken care off.
