Reasons why we chose this school: 1. Block scheduling - Classes grouped into Monday/Wednesday (4 classes meet for 1 hour and forty-five minutes each) and Tuesday/Thursday (4 classes meet for 1 hour and forty-five minutes each), and Fridays all subjects meet for 55 minutes each. 2. The mission of the school is to PREPare the students for college. 3. Smaller school environment. Average student-teacher ratio is 18:1. 4. Each student is provided a laptop for school-year use, which stores their school files, notes, and e-copies of their school books, etc. 5. School is run by a CMO non-profit public benefit corporation with a Board of Directors that runs several charter schools. The school is not subject to conform to the District's way of traditional way instruction. They must still meet the California performance standards and accountability requirements like the other public schools, but they can provide other styles of learning and methodology. 6. This particular school delivers project-based learning. This particular type of learning means 'connect classroom learning to its applications in the outside world'. 7. All the teachers are fully credentialed, are not part of a union, there are no seniority levels, are hired 'at-will', and their teaching evaluation is assessed yearly via a performance review. They also have after-school office hours, tutoring, and parent-consultation (which is very similar to how college professors hold regular office hours). 8. Aside from the generally required base curriculum, there is a variety of electives in the areas of music, arts, technology, and world languages. For example, when we toured their production studio it had all the advanced equipment 9. They have a good selection of interscholastic athletic programs 10. Modern equipment, courses geared towards UC/CSU admission, and ability for advanced students to take college credits with college professors teaching several subjects a week within the school. 11. The school partnered with Choice Lunch, a company servicing fresh food and the parents and kids get to choose what they want. The ingredients has no transfat, MSG, no high fructose corn syrup, and no artificial flavors or colors. The fruits and veggies are sourced from local farmers. read more

Four years ago my son chose to attend LVCP after LVCS. He is now graduating as part of LVCP's first graduating class. My son is a UC Regent Scholar and a recipient of various other scholarships including the National Security Technologies Science and Engineering Scholarship, the Banatao Family Filipino American Scholarship, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Asian Pacific American Council Scholarship, and the Livermore Filipino American Scholarship. He is also a Science and Engineering Apprentice at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey for this summer of 2014. LVCP will prepare your kids for college and they will be very competitive with graduates of other high schools. Remember that LVCP is a charter school. It is a school of choice. Choose this school because it is a good fit for your child. It will not be easy. Your child will be asked to go through a project- based learning curriculum that is over and above the typical high school requirements. They will be asked to do volunteer hours and a Senior Capstone project on a topic that they are passionate about. They will be asked to present all that they learned and how they met their expectations and standards in front of others. Think of it as a mini TedX. But at the end of 4 years, your child will be prepared. I can guarantee that and am a witness to it. LVCP is an amazing school. My daughter has been a student since last year and she loves it. The staff and students are friendly and very helpful. Of course she kicked and screamed because she was looking forward to the big high school but after a week at LVCP she said Granada who? The school really does focus on preparing the kids for college. They give the kids expectations and follow through with them to make sure they accomplish those set expectations. They have after school help for them which is great because its usually their actual teachers. They also keep up with the volunteer work hours needed and make sure the fulfill those hours. class size last year was between 10-15 students. You kids just don't get that much attention anywhere else. Private school I looked at were are 28-30. The teachers all knew my daughter extremely well and worked with her. We pondered both LHS and LVCP last year. Since school has started this year we couldn't be happier about sending our niece to LVCP. She has come home every day, more excited about school than the day before. The teachers engage the students at every opportunity. It is a huge plus the classes are smaller, allowing for more individual attention. The strong focus on academics hasn't left the need for the arts behind. The kids are learning in a project based environment, with 90% of their classes college prep. When they graduate they will have met or exceeded all A-G (college entrance requirements for CSUs, UCs, and private universities) requirements. The expectations of the kids are high, but the teacher and staff are there each step along the way to help our students accomplish the set expectations. LVCP has been an incredibly enriching experience for our freshman niece. The range and scope of learning opportunities is as wide as our child makes them. We didn't want a high school that taught to pass tests; rather, we found LVCP is a setting where kids can learn not only the academics, but the skills needed to achieve - they can learn to learn, if you will. Because of the refreshing nature of the curriculum and the methods used to leverage each child's unique skill set, each child is given the tools necessary to achieve and excel. This is the best thing that has happened to Livermore. Our youth need a school like this where their education is the real main focus. This school is technology based and it gives our kids the creative freedom to use their skills in a positive outlet. I am amazed at how much involvement the teachers and faculty have. They are genuine and sincere and really do have the childrens best interest in mind. The programs are advanced and the classes they offer are all college prep or honors. I feel that by placing my daughter at this school she has a real chance at not only succeeding, but excelling in whatever she wants to do. read more

Freshman 2012. The teachers are excellent. LVCP is a small school and is very welcoming and college prep courses are offered to all kids who are like mine and want to excel at everything they do. Small school allows all students to play a sport like volleyball, basketball or soccer without competing for a spot. Facilities are below par for now, but they are hoping to improve them very soon. Small school, so no swimming, golf, tennis team yet. The main reasons to come to LVCP are smallness, excellent teachers, and an opportunity to do a lot of things that you might not be able to do in a larger school. read more

I am very happy with LVCP high school. I feel that this school has the best teachers and principal.They truly care about my son. I know that when I send him here he will receive the very best education, resources, individual attention, and be around many adults who care about him. They have a wonderful drama department, cross-country team, as well as other perks. The students are learning so much more than many other high schools, which will be very helpful in preparing them for further education. Most of the kids there are well mannered and friendly. This school is amazing and the Administration / Staff is very responsive to parent / student needs. It's quite obvious the school is headed in the right direction as evidenced by the apparent changes in personnel and all of the positive success the school has experienced this year. If your child is bright & inquisitive, you need to investigate LVCP as an option. My 10th grader has flourished in ways she simply could not have at a more "traditional" public high school. The teachers are absolutely exceptional, and it thrills my child that she is able to take college classes starting in 10th grade. Class sizes are smaller, level of acceptance & caring amongst students is high. This school has so many scandals but all reviews regarding their recent bankruptcy, the Principle Eric Dillie's child abuse trial currently at court, illegal expelling of students, a possible kidnaps case... where are THOSE reviews? Several local newspapers have articles exposing this school, a graduate of the school called this school "Mafia-like", I can't help but think reviews have been removed on purpose. My son is a freshman at LVCP and we couldn't be happier. My son has special needs and we were concerned with both LHS and GHS being our only choices for high schools in Livermore. When I first heard about LVCP I was concerned that it is a college prep high school but they really work with each student individually and the principal is very involved as well. The class sizes are small and they offer help to students after school if needed. We feel this school is a great option. read more

LVCP is a wonderful school. My sons have been with the Charter system in Livermore since inception. The school provides a caring community of enthusiastic teachers, administration and staff. Each student is recognized for their abilities. LVCP encourages high academic standards while proving plenty of support to achieve them. LVCP is a wonderful school. Amazing, caring staff and faculty. College Prep classes and even college level courses. Wonderful after school programs for the students, from Model United Nations to Cheerleading. A private school education and at a public school price.
