My daughter has just graduated from the preschool and we have decided to keep her here for kindergarten! We are also enrolling our other child as well. We have had experience with Our Savior Lutheran School about ten years ago with my eldest son under a different principal and again with our other children now under Mr. Anwyl. I have a first, fourth and sixth grader at the school. We have been so incredibly blessed by the staff at Our Savior. They are a gifted group of educators who genuinely care for the students in their care and see them as individuals. They have been wonderful at communicating with us regarding each of our children and their needs. When extra help is needed they have provided it and worked with us as parents to care best for our children. I can't begin to list the many ways we have been touched by their kindness and consideration for our family. My child has attended this school for 3 years. I've been very happy with the small community feeling. He knows many of the kids in different grades and for the most part loves to go to school each day. This year there is a new principal, and she seems very thorough and in touch with the students and teachers. I'm excited for the changes this year. Pros - - Uniforms (yay no dressing battles, no expensive school clothes to buy) There is a clothing exchange for gently used uniform pieces - Small, community feeling - you and your child won't feel lost in the crowd - The school provides the classroom supplies (no need to purchase binders, pencils etc) - Spanish starting in Kindergarten - Music starting in Kindergarten (and choir starting in 1st grade) - Track Team open to all - starting with Kindergarten - Prayer, Bible Verses, Bible stories, respect for God and others is taught - Computer class starting in Kindergarten! OSLS is teaching kids in the environment they will need to function in for the future. I think it's a great concept! Cons - Of course you pay tuition for all the wonderful stuff listed above. Please Tour Multiple Preschools before making your decision based on this schools "good reputation." This review is long overdue for the Preschool. I toured the 2's and was not impressed with the interactions between teachers and students. No smiling in the children and complete silence in the class, which I found odd for 7 two year olds. I wanted to like this school so much that I came back the following year and and even paid my deposit for the 3's. Big Mistake! Classroom was dirty with broken toys during open house night. Way over priced for this Preschool. and btw, they issued no refund. There are better options out there for your precious little angel babies. read more

Saddens me to write this, because we are big fans of the curriculum and majority of the staff, but we had some disturbing experiences with the head of the preschool and her discipline methods that forced us to remove our children. It started small with strange things we brushed off like the tone of her voice when addressing the children and we did our best to support her decisions, her staff did the same even though many would voice later their disagreement with methods being used, but we began to seriously question keeping our kids there when we found she was holding our child from activities for extended periods of time, effectively giving them time outs of 45 minutes or longer regularly. We were already on the fence about keeping our children there due to this and the treatment the head would use with other students as well. If she was so harsh to other children, how could I know my kids weren't getting the same treatment when I wasn't present. The last straw, as a punishment a diaper was "placed" on our child that was less than two months away from being 4 years old. The diaper was put over their clothing, although they were fully potty trained and had been before even attending the school in an attempt to shame him. Using potty talk and being wildly difficult was the reason cited for doing this, but we would have gladly picked our kid up had they phoned us if our kid was that out of control. The whole thing sickened us, since there were other adults present that didn't stop her, we are guessing they didn't because since she's in charge and they're scared of losing their jobs. Also upsetting is our kid's account, aside from telling us that at least one other student witnessed it and was laughing at them, the whole night and next morning they complained of stomach pain where she held them down to "place" the diaper over their clothes. A complaint was filed with licensing and a Type A citation was issued, that's why I keep putting "place" in quotes. The report used that verbiage based on their interviews. I wish I would have called LPD. Either our child was as out of control as reported by the staff and she must have used force to hold them down or they were calm and lying down and she still put it on our kid. Disturbing, since there's some truth clearly missing, but on the bright side the contradictions in the report confirmed for us we made the right decision to move on although our kids do miss their classmates and teachers very much. Also, the school failed after grossly in handling our complaints and departure. 1. They didn't keep the complaints to the licensing board anonymous. 2. They basically made me beg for our money back for the remainder of the time we'd paid for in advance after pulling our kids and when told I needed to speak to the principal on the matter, he didn't want to talk to me initially. He didn't "have anything to say" to me because I had no students there.... Pathetic. As a side note, apparently they're circulating rumors they asked us to leave. Brilliant. Seeing they're advertising open houses via Facebook prompted me to post this, as although it's been nearly a year, we are still dealing with the aftermath and I'm hoping to save some good Livermore families from Mrs. Sarah. Their big boast was they'd never had any citations, well, they're are a few registered now and I know of a few families that contacted me after with even worse stories that never even came forward because Sarah basically bullied them and sent them packing. **update - question was asked if we had any experience with the elementary school. The answer is not much, just the principal as noted above. He was overseeing both schools at the time. I'll tell you he disappointed us greatly. read more

My child attends Our Savior Lutheran Preschool (full day program five days a week) and we absolutely love it. Every single person on staff are enthusiastic, welcoming and make sure my child is safe and loved every single minute of the day. The classroom environment is very well structured and has helped my child's confidence soar while helping her grow educationally. Her teachers, Mrs. Lehew & Mrs. Craig (who I could write a million 5 star recommendations on) welcome her each morning with hugs. She comes home every day with a new song, story, tells me about something fun that they did that day, new friends she made etc. She begs to go to school in the morning. You receive organized weekly newsletters of what is happening in each subject, special events, prayer of the week etc. The aftercare program ran by Mrs. Rascon is phenomenal. Every day when I'm there to pickup there is something new and fun happening; playing music, ribbon wands, new sand toys, coloring in the shade etc. Another bonus is that the playground is huge with lots of shade (a big bonus when you're three). The school is very clean and organized and sanitized daily (thank goodness for those germ fighters). As a parent it's such a relief to know that my child is in such a fun learning environment and loves being there. I have two children who have attended this school including a 5th grader who will be attending the Middle School next year. What I really love about this school is the strong sense of community. The parents and staff are all supportive of not only the academic portion of the children's education, but also the social, emotional and spiritual component of the children's education. I love the broad academic curriculum that includes History, Literature, Art, Music, Foreign Language, and Technology, in addition to Math, Science, and PE. The History and Literature components are particularly impressive. And of course, I love the campus. It is beautiful and a great location right across the street from the Civic Center library. read more

Our Daughter has attended school here since Kindergarten and we have nothing but good things to say. She has loved all her teachers and she continues to have the perfect class size of around 18 children. She is happy, well rounded and well educated. I am certainly sad to see that two parents have issues with the school and certain teachers, but if you look at and include the filtered reviews, these two 1-star reviewers are in the minority. Please look at the other reviews as I am unsure why yelp has only chosen to show the reviews that lower the overall rating. Our Savior should be given at least a 4-star rating to reflect the multiple 4 and 5 star ratings it has. read more

Our Savior Lutheran School is a wonderful school. I often hear folks referring to our school as a "hidden gem." I discovered this school 3 years ago when my eldest was attending a public school here in Livermore. She was struggling horribly with the math curriculum and I was frustrated with the lack of a mathematical foundation. Both of my children attend Our Savior Lutheran School and it is one of the best academic changes that we have ever made. They both look forward to going to school and they are getting an excellent education where "Christ is allowed in the Classroom." My daughter has been attending here since Kindergarten. I initially thought it would be good for her to move onto public middle school, however I decided to keep her here after I met the amazing middle school teachers! She is extremely happy with her friends and social circles (which can be a challenge at the middle school level), she does excellent work and her grades reflect this, she has become part of student government, music and athletic groups which allows her extra-curricular activities without having to drive her anywhere (and as a full time working mom, that is hard to do). I am very pleased with the administration and teaching staff of this institution. To say that there aren't any problems would be silly; of course there are everyday issues that my child has to face, however, here there are more eyes on them, smaller classes and so there is more of a community and family feel that protects. The real world is out there, and I feel this school is preparing her for those real world challenges, in a friendly, protective, accountable and strong environment. read more

I am very disappointed in this school. They named a dump after our savior. In religion class all they do is memorize bible verses and this is supposed to bring them closer to god. They say they use technology but there given a half broken dell mini that you must have and rent. The price you pay for renting for a school year is more then buying it. And they have no space on them it's filed with free trials for programs that expire in the middle of the year. You can't even save a word document. Then we get into the education. It's terrible if you want to take a higher class then algebra in 8th grade you have to teach your self in the lower class. The way the teachers act is terrible in forth grade kids came home crying and went to school in fear. In one 8th grade class a student ran away from school and home. At the end of the year banquet when they announce what people would most likely be when they grew up. For the kid that ran away they chose Olympic runner and the teachers started laughing at the poor kid. In conclusion you should not go to this school unless you don't want your kids to learn and pay a ridiculous amount of money for nothing. read more

We have been at Our Savior for 5 years now, preschool through 2nd grade going into 3rd grade. We are very happy here for many reasons.... * curriculum has been updated to CORE knowledge program, highly recommended by our other accredited Lutheran schools, it's a bit of a step up but our kids are fine * uniforms are cheaper, we shop at the schools donated OK-Corral room and have paid less than $100 for two kids sets of clothes * small class size will allow for more personal communication w/staff and teachers * we love our extra classes such as PE, Spanish and Choir * christian environment with not only help our children emotionally but how to interact and behave properly w/other children as well as adults. my kids love chapel :-) * our two principals are great, broken up into age groups is how they handle their group load * our families are close and communicate well and lean on each other, there don't seem to be groups of parents not including others * our teachers are all different and offer different qualities to help our children deal with and communicate with every personality type Cons * well yes we pay for all of these great perks but I would rather have a smaller home and cut costs elsewhere in our family to provide such a nice structure for our children to grow up in.... read more

Our oldest child attended Our Savior Lutheran School (OSLS) from Pre-School through 8th grade before moving onto a local public high school this year. We found the school to be outstanding in preparing our son for high school. This review is focused on the Middle School (grades 6-8): The overall curriculum is strong and well-balanced, with excellent links across disciplines (i.e., the book being read in Literature often supports the period being studied in History, which is then enhanced by a pertinent art project). This approach definitely supports understanding and retention. We are especially impressed with the Math program. Each year builds on the prior year's knowledge, and classes are scheduled concurrently, easily allowing children to move up or down in level to support their ability. The Algebra/Geometry staff is truly exceptional. OSLS provided a loving Christian environment where our child flourished. The staff focuses daily on developing the children's relationships with God. The end result is children with strong moral character, who move easily into the challenges facing them in high school. Our son is comfortable with the academic workload and social aspects of high school. We feel OSLS prepared him to take the necessary college-prep courses, and to choose honors or advanced courses where interested. We look forward to continuing our younger child's Middle School education at OSLS next year. read more

Can't say enough wonderful things about this preschool. The curriculum is amazing & the love that it shown to each child by the staff is wonderful. Knowing that my child is going to get hugs & told he/she is loved makes me feel so happy I have chosen to keep my children at this preschool & school. I have had two children attend this preschool, one still at the preschool & the other is in kindergarten. I believe my child who is in kindergarten was beyond prepared for kindergarten. My children come home singing new songs, they know their letters & colors. The education level goes far behind whatever ever expected. Many times when I go to pick up my children they don't want to leave because they enjoy being at OSLS/preschool. My step son went to a different private preschool & was not prepared for kindergarten at all. Unlike OSLS preschool, who has a great curriculum, this other preschool was more like a daycare/playtime rather providing any education. In regards to the one negative review, i work with children myself but within the juvenile justice system. I know that discipline, manners, respect & the way children behave initially starts in the home. Many Parents today expect the school & school staff to raise their children. Parents need to set rules, boundaries & expectations in their home which then will carry on into the school environment. There are always two sides to each story & yes Ms Sara could have chosen a different way to handle the situation with that one constant misbehaving child, but one incident does not mean the entire school/preschool is awful. My children look forward to school each day and they do not like to be late nor to miss a day. The staff is fantastic, all of our interactions with teachers and administrators have always been respectful, positive and helpful. As a mom, I appreciate the longer school days, smaller class sizes and the availability and willingness of the teachers to help my children as needed. I also feel that the academic content of the teaching curriculum is far above what we received in the public school system. God is welcome in the classroom and my children are blessed and thriving. The review is long time overdue. I wasn't planning on writing as we are a fan of the curriculum and most of the teachers/staff in the preschool. However, the preschool has some issues that need to address. The preschool director and some of the teachers are punitive and shaming towards children that don't adhere to their rigid perception of development. They constantly complain about minor things, and did a poor job of managing peer conflicts. Even though it's a christian school, some of the teachers and the director are biased and play favorites with the kids and families. The preschool director involves in areas that doesn't concern her. In several occasions she fabricated facts and embellished the truth to fit her agenda. Also, they say they don't care about people's background but we didn't find that to be true in the way the preschool director treated our family. We were planning to keep our kid there one more year but because of the constant issues that was imposed to our kid and our family we decided to pull our kid out of the school and enroll her somewhere else. read more

This review is for the preschool only. This is the best preschool in Livermore. This is my tenth year with the school as I have had four children come through this wonderful program. All of my children had different needs and they were all met. I am prior law enforcement and I trust this staff utterly and completely. The safety measures at this school are more than you will find at any other preschool in Livermore. However, the staff is the best there is and the absolute best part of this school. My 12 year old still lists one of the teachers he had there as one of his favorite teachers ever. She is still teaching there and this was 8 years ago. The Director Sara and the Administrator Julie and are there every morning greeting children as they walk in. They have both been with the school for years and are true professionals. They have running this school down to a science and they do it well. They know every child by name and place the safety and happiness of the children foremost above all else. The facility is clean and cheerful with new equipment and loving and caring teachers. I do not worry when I leave my children. They take months hiring only the best staff and unlike other preschools in the area, the staff retention rate is excellent. Many preschools in the area have trouble with frequent staff turnover. This is a major issue as young children need continuity in their care to grow and feel safe. I would highly recommend this school to anyone. One visit and you won't want want your kids to go anywhere else. read more
