They took very good care of our belongings and of others by taping and covering everything to protect it from paint. For example: He not only taped around window and door frames, but would also cover any of the neighbors' cars with plastic, so that they would not get any accidental paint. They also removed unneeded fixtures like old satellite dishes, and unused cables that were in the way at no extra charge. Rather than go into a fluffy review, I'm going to stick with the facts. -Once we worked out a schedule, he started and finished on the dates he promised. -He showed up on time everyday, finished when he said he would, and was respectful of my house and neighborhood. -The price was great for the quality of workmanship, and never changed. -But best of all for me, after discussing different paint options, he recommended a kind of hybrid water/alkyd trim paint that looks like oil, but doesn't have the stink of oil. My 1929 Vintage casework literally glows with excellence. The trim work looks almost liquid and flowing. I just love looking at it. I found Bob doing a Google search. He came over within a few days, measured and gave us an estimate. He started and finished right on time and when it was all said and done, we were very PLEASED. Painting the cabinets turned out to be a great alternative to replacement, much more cost effective and we were blown away at the difference it made. One word of advice though, they did have to spray some of the material that was affixed to the wall and although they did cover everything in plastic, paint did get on some of our dishes- I would suggest removing anything you don't want paint splattered on or just double checking the coverage. It wasn't a big deal, only a few glasses and mugs but we should've been more cautious.

They walked the property, we talked some details, and they gave me a competitive bid. They started two weeks early. They pressure-washed, pulled nails, caulked, patched, scraped, and fixed up our house. That was A LOT OF WORK. Then they primed with rollers and painted with spray. It was funny because the primer had a bit of yellow in it, and it almost perfectly matched the color of the old house. I panicked but John calmly set me straight. They went back and with brushwork for the trim and touch-up, a three color job for us. OUR HOUSE LOOKS FIRE-TRUCKING GORGEOUS. I'm not allowed to use bad words here, sadly. The paint is thick and even with close attention to detail. The wood is smooth. It's all just so darned good. It was also an immense amount of work. A 2800 square foot ranch home, a separate ~2400 square foot split-level four-car garage with apartment above, a well house, and a fire pit. There was tall-ladder work on a hillside with eaves 30 feet up. John and Nico just plugged away at it like the true professionals they are. I'm so impressed. Plus they're a lot of fun to talk to. I've had good contractors and bad contractors. John and James Painting are the best, period. I'm sad that they're done and leaving.

After getting bids from 4 companies, Larry remained the one who left the best impression as well as the best quote. They did very professional work, cleaning, prepping, and then painting. The job was completed in a week and he stuck to the original quote which included some difficult extra tasks like removing an ugly metal awning over the front porch, treating the deck, or reshaping one of the plaster medallion ornaments on the front of the house which had lost one of its pieces. Mr. Firman did such excellent work that we kept his name in our files. Now, (September 2015) when we needed to have our front door refinished we called "Arthur Deco" . It was a difficult job, as the door is 83 years old and had "alligatored" varnish. The challenge was that there are 14 panels and it was not possible to sand the finish with an electric sander. Ron really worked long and hard, stripping the varnish by hand, helpfully showing me various color choices, and working like a perfectionist. The final stain was just the right color; the "satin" finish looks great, and the house will give a wonderful first impression to potential buyers. (We are moving tomorrow, and it looks so good I'd like to move right back in!)
