Hail Aux Petit Tonneaux, open when no other cafe/brasserie/bar was. Seriously a godsend for jetlagged travelers. Despite being open such late hours, the service is always friendly, professional, and you can feel assured that they'll take care of you. When there are clearly inebriated customers, them employees take care of them, too. The food is your typical cafe fare, and pretty decent. Nothing to write home about, but it will fill you up. Especially if you're feeling peckish for some chips after a few drinks. Speaking of drinks, this place has a great selection of Belgian ales. On draught, they've got Leffe, La Chouffe, & Edelweiss. We also tried an interesting, tart bottled lambic , Morte Subite Kriek. Solid joint. If I lived here, I'd probably become a regular.

Prices here are very reasonable for Paris, charging almost half for certain dishes than what you will find in the tourist areas. Good service and menus available in English and French. I stopped by very late at night about half hour before the kitchen started to close so we were a little rushed but understandably so. The escargot was too garlicky I don't know if it because we came as kitchen was closing but the snails seemed a bit over cooked and not very well balanced. But still decent since I love garlic. I had the duck steak in a creme goat cheese sauce very much like a blue cheese steak without the mold colour, came with fries and salad that was also very good. My wife tried the duck confit and as usual very tasty but a little bit on the dry side. One thing I found very unpleasant but is pretty common in Paris is the smoking. Staff were standing in the doorway and just outside the window where we were sitting blowing smoke into the restaurant. Being from Canada I found it quite aggravating but there are clouds of smoke everywhere in Paris. You can try to sit inside so it's not right in your face but it will likely blow in And be staunch anyway.

It's clearly popular with the local student population for the drinks, but we decided to have dinner here because I was really craving some moules frites, which I saw was one of the popular dishes here. We started with the shrimp and avocado salad to share, which was simple yet fine. It was a really hot evening so we didn't want too heavy a meal. My mussels were quite good, small and tender, a very generous pot and well-cleaned/cooked (I don't think there were more than 1 or 2 unopened ones in the bottom.) I could have used a little more broth with them, but a minor quibble. My sweetie got the steak au poivre; our waitress first asked, "Well done?" (I guess they assume that's what Americans want? The horror!) to which I said no, make how the chef likes. It came out perfectly medium rare with an excellent crust, and sweetie declared it the best steak he'd had anywhere in a long, long time. Dessert was "pineapple carpaccio", which was fine for a really hot night, but for 7.50 Euro I would have expected a bit more than three slices of pineapple and some whipped cream. Still, overall we had a very good meal and I'd go back for the drinks, the mussels, and that steak!

The ambiance of this restaurant was outstanding as we were warmly greeted when we entered and the restaurant is housed in an historic building about 400m from the Louvre. Only two tables were occupied by Americans which was a good sign. We ordered the tartare, foie gras, Octopus salad, duck and pork belly, all of which were delightfully prepared and tasted very good. We ordered Palova and the Soufflé for desert (both highly recommended). They had a very extensive wine list but we opted for the Charles Heidstick Brut Reserve by the glass which was very good. By far our best dinner while in Paris.

The menu may be a bit confusing, but our server cleared up any questions. (a la carte vs prix fixe) We started with a complimentary terrine with gherkins and onions which were delicious. I had the Brittany scallops in a pesto and citrus dressing topped with parmigiana reggiano - absolutely amazing! Mains were the braised beef cheeks which were melt in your mouth and a tender roasted veal. The smoothest puréed potatoes and a crispy potato gaufrette were perfect accompaniments. The Grand Marnier soufflé was the perfect ending to an outstanding lunch. I look forward to returning to La Regalade for another lunch or perhaps dinner.

Upon walking in, we realized this was a neighborhood treasure, full of locals enjoying a slowed-down and capital-L Lunch. I started with the delicious Pork Terrine with Endive Salad. It was hearty and full of meaty flavor. My husband ordered the Butternut Squash Soup which looked impeccable, and was incredibly flavorful. I ordered the Grilled Veal Kidneys w/ Miso + Scallion and Mashed Potatoes. It was savory, rich, and so delicately balanced. Kidneys aren't typically my go-to order, but I figured that they were in very capable hands at Comme chez Maman, and I was right. My husband ordered the Duck Confit with Celery Root + Mashed Potatoes, which he loved, too. Service was pretty good, but what struck me the most was how much everyone was enjoying their dining experience around us. Everyone was so happy and leisurely enjoying their meals.
