Not my first time at this VFW always pleasant and plenty of good conversation. This evening was not…read morewhat I was expecting. Stopped in to grab a bite after a friend called and asked me to take her to get her meds from the Walmart at Carroll Island. My friends car broke down and is having some family issues that she wanted to talk to me about. I am 71yrs of age and my friend is in her 50's so we were not going to be out long. we were told the kitchen was closing down it was a little after 7 at his point, I asked the woman working behind the bar if they still had shrimp salad and she said yes so we ordered our shrimp salad and a beer. my friend ordered us another beer and the woman said last call we said ok and I asked for the check so as soon as we finished we could leave. The woman said no she was busy and would come back when she was finished cleaning. Then a large man came up behind us and said we needed to leave because he wanted to go home. It is not always what you say but how you say it. Please look at the camera and you will see he came up behind us and had was touching my shoulder like we were buddies. Well we are not buddies and he was so rude that I will be there tomorrow to talk with the Commander, this gentleman very loudly told me his name was Phil and he is the ex-Commander. I told him my husbands name is Phil and he mocked me saying Phil over and over again. I proceeded to tell him well I know why you are the ex-Commander. When the woman behind the bar tried to tell him she has taken care of us he told her NO I AM TAKING CARE OF THIS. I have no idea who took away this man's clipboard but he needs to lower his voice stop touching people he does not know and maybe take a seminar on how to deal with the public. Now the real reason I am hot about this is my husband was wounded in Vietnam and received the purple heart, our son is also a wounded Vet. who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne, he had surgery and stayed at Walter Reed. So if this is the way you at the VFW treat Vets. and their families we still have a long way to go. A simple hey ladies, it's almost closing time NOT the hrs are posted on the door. Seriously this man did not make your post look welcoming. To be truthful I stop in time to time when I go to Richardson's there are about 4 guys who are there most of the time, we talk, laugh and it feels good to buy someone a beer and laugh a bit. Not knowing this man he may have had one to many but that is no reason to get loud and berate your customers and extended Military family. Thank you for letting me vent. Still not over how my husband and so many other were treated after coming home.

At the start she said all the right things. But as planning picked up, our experience soured…read more We were clear with our budget. We worked together to set item level budgets and design choices (e.g. flowers, printing, etc.). However, each proposal we received was over budget. Communication also became a problem. When she overlooked scheduling problem between the venders and our requirements, she became defensive about her faults. Also, she promised she would only manage one marriage a weekend, but on our weekend she had two weddings. I wish the relationship would have worked better and I hope she learns from our concerns.

Our single best investment of the entire wedding was to hire Diana of Eventi Planning. We hired…read moreDiana to help with wedding day coordination, but in fact she ended up helping with planning, crisis management, and general advice in the months leading up to the wedding. Given that vendors often try to double as event planners (especially caterers, venues, and DJs), Diana had the difficult job of coordinating the coordinators. She did so with aplomb: building positive relationships with the other vendors, soliciting input on the master schedule, maintaining flexibility, and helping cultivate a sense of joy on the big day. She could easily charge double or triple for her services. Diana helped with the following decisions and more: creating a floor plan, hiring transportation for the wedding day (we used three vendors: a hotel shuttle, an all-purpose van, and a limo), hiring and negotiating a better rate for drapes, brainstorming ideas, communicating with other vendors, buying small items that we forgot (tea candles, a car decorating kit, and a guest book), lending us some common wedding items (a ring pillow, candle holders, and a "bird cage" for gifts), delivering ribbons for the wedding cake, and creating a master schedule. We also appreciated that Diana was fine with the unusual gender roles in our planning process, as the groom handled most of the planning. We found that some vendors were quite sexist in this respect, but Diana was fine with communicating with both of us. In short, we can't emphasize enough how thankful we are for Diana's help.
