Started out ok Tom seemed knowledgeable with a reasonable estimate. He was asked to install rolled…read morevinyl, replace trim, prime and paint bathroom walls ceiling and trim. When he came to inspect for estimate he recommended luan over the floor. When it came time to actually install the vinyl it was clear that he did not review the manufacturer recommendation. He kept wanting to do a loose lay or perimeter only bond. The manufacturer was clear that it was a full spread glue down. I called and emailed the manufacturer to verify and shared the information with him including the full documentation of how to install the floor. He didn't want to use primer before the glue. He didn't make the proper relief cuts leaving the site with vinyl going up the side of the wall and tub. I did make the cuts after he left when I noticed it and pushed the glue out. After gluing down the floor he said it might bubble up due to the vdc from the underlying vinyl floors I commented maybe that's why they recommended a primer. He also recommended putting the luan over the other two vinyl floors when he could have recommended complete tear out of the underlying floors. We discussed putting more sub floor under the bathtub as there was a gap that wasn't previously shimmed. He later spray foamed under/inside the tub without asking me first. I advised him that my previous tub cracked due to the use of spray foam and that I hope this spray foam doesn't do the same. When it came to the finish paint there were a number of run, paint on the window, light, bathtub, and cabinets that were not intended to be painted. I cleaned some of it up with rubbing alcohol. At this point I was not pleased with the workmanship because it lacked craftsmanship. I know my 10 year old could do a better job painting. I advised Tom that I would find someone else to complete the trim and fix the other concerns I brought up. He was upset and let me know that he felt he wasn't done with the job. I let him know that I don't want him back to the house. I give 2 stars because maybe he would have done better but I really couldn't afford to have someone continue that I would have to constantly supervise and point out that paint shouldn't be left to run or that relief cuts should be made before glueing down vinyl not after the glue dries.

He walked around the building and said he didn't see the extra 50-60 ft. of gutter and had to send another quote (I was not happy getting jerked around). With the new quote I was ready to go forward if he provided proof of insurance. He went silent after that. There was some gutters that were unnecessary which his crew did not replace. They put up fascia board to cover that area. My old gutters were full of crud. Everything looks great now and Mike has honest and fair pricing. One company quoted triple the price, which is just further proof many contractors are just price gouging these days. I highly recommend Gutter Guy.

I'm not sure if the builder decided not to do this section or if someone from Guilford's decided, but it was the wrong decision and experts from Guilford's should have known better I called them back out to do this 14" section of gutter and they charged me $225, their minimum charge, for a job that was never completed in my opinion... so now I've paid, but I won't call them back and I won't recommend them

But still Guilford was constantly griping at me about being "the only one getting screwed". I really wish I could have told him just to get the hell off my property but I really didnt know about the possible legal ramifications of doing that. I just wanted him to finish and get off my property it was so stressful listening to him constantly complaining. So finally he was supposedly done, some of the workmanship was less than just ok, but I just wanted him gone. So I paid the amount of the original contract and that included the additional $3,000 dollars that we both agreed upon. But then Guilford being Guilford had the audacity to file a small claims court action against me in a failed attempt to get more money. Dealing with him was very stressful! Would I ever recommend Guilford? Hell No!! I would say be absolutely positive that you have a itemized contract with every detail of the work to be done and signed by both the contractor and yourself.
