The project manager Norm Shamoun was nice, professional -- just AWESOME!! He communicated with me frequently and kept me updated on work status and any issues. All the contractors/staff that worked on my house/home were nice, respectful, did quality/excellent work and on time -- fantastic completed work. I would like to give kudos to J & L Restoration. The management and staff: Dan Johnson in management, Norm and Zach in carpentry, and David and Josh in plumbing. Dan examined the water damage in the bathroom floor around the fixtures and checked the subfloor underneath. He decided what needed to be done. He wrote up a proposal and contract, and made the cost very fair and affordable. Norm and Zach worked so hard in taking off the damaged flooring layer by layer - down to the joists! They then professionally installed layers of new flooring, laid the interlocking tiles that we had picked out, and finished it perfectly with new baseboard. My family and I think it's beautiful! David and Josh came to install a new toilet and fix plumbing. They did a great job by repositioning the toilet and making sure there were no leaks. We lived with a bad floor for over a decade, not knowing the full damage that had taken place. So we are thrilled with the new quality construction of our bathroom. Had a leak in the kitchen that flooded the kitchen floor in my 2nd Floor Condo in Lansing. Called approx. 4:30 PM and was told the crew was just coming back to the office and would be dispatched shortly. Two 'Service Techs' arrived a couple of hours later, despite the office being only 10 minutes from the condo. They took a quick humidity measurement and proceeded to tell me they needed to remove the entire laminate floor, dry things and then coordinate with a 3rd party to replace the floor. When I asked for an estimate, they had to get on the phone with 'the boss.' They quoted me $1,000 to pull up the floor and do the drying. They did not seem to be able to do anything I couldn't do myself and because of their vague answers, I declined their service. A week later I received a $300 bill for the 'Service Call.' Note: There was NO mention of a mandatory 'Service Call Fee' when I requested assistance. The people who showed up DID provide me a price list when I asked and an 'After Hours' 'Emergency Service Call' was show on the list for a $164.48 Fee. When I contacted the owner by phone, he stated he only had people refuse service about every 8 years and had to "recover his costs." When I brought to his attention the fact that the Dispatcher had said NOTHING about a mandatory Service Fee, there was no information online about said fee and the price sheet reflected a different price he said: "We typically don't give estimates for the emergency work,' just the reconstruction... I'm not sure why we give out that price list, we typically just go by what the insurance agency tells us.' This business clearly needs to provide their in-office dispatch staff and field personnel with additional training and make an effort to improve their online information (currently their website is down due to 'technical difficulties') #Fail read more

I accidentally had a bag of a fungicide drop down my basement steps and it left quite an odor...after vacuuming it up there was a fine mist throughout the basement and it was all too much, and I could not tolerate the smell...I called J&L and asked what would be the best way to get the mist and odor out...they advised, I hired them and they brought out a unit that same day....picked unit up two days later. while a little odor lingers on the carpets the rest of the basement smells much better and the mist is gone. read more

When a plumbing leak flooded our kitchen, USAA recommended recommended a water mitigation company to take up the flooring and dry everything out. Then USAA recommend an agent from J&L restoration to estimate the replacement costs. He did an excellent job arguing on our behalf for all the replacement costs, which was accepted by USAA. Because J&L had experience with many cabinet, flooring, painting, and other work crews, we decided to hire them as our restoration company. They did an excellent job of returning the kitchen to its original state. We were impressed by their attention to details and to the extent they went to satisfy us.
