As I live in…read moreLeeds, I called the store at 9 this morning to see whether the item I needed was in stock (as it wasn't in the Leeds one), and it was, and the lady, Diane, I spoke to was incredibly cheery and helpful even though she'd clearly only just started work. Bless. So she put the thing aside for me and I picked it up an hour later, and everyone was super helpful. Of the three staff I passed on my way to the department, all of them smiled at me and acknowledged me, rather than ignoring me completely and going out of their way to not help me, like the Leeds staff I encountered yesterday. Two ladies wished me a merry christmas too. It was really nice. I shall be emailing my feedback to them to thank them : ) Well done HoF!

House of Fraser (previously Beatties) is a very good British departament store, it is one of the 63…read morestores in the country. At the moment of writing it sells clothes, kitchen items, 'home' items and also has a restaurant located above the store. I like House of Fraser, because it sells mainly high quality things, so you don't have to go through hundreds of cheap, and low quality stuff until you find something you really like. I am under the impression that the mens departament was better in the past, now it has less clothes, but mabye it's not true. It is sad that they don't sell toys anymore. Overall it a very good place to buy stuff for yourself or a present for a loved one (like a Fraser Teddy Bear!)

Debenhams in Blackburn is one of the many department stores I have visited of late. This is quite a…read moredecent size store and is part of The Mall, I came here to use the toilets after grabbing a coffee near enough next store at Rhode Island Coffee, who sadly don't have any toilets. The store was cluttered with "Black Weekend" stickers and most of the offers weren't worth shouting about in all honesty. Inside the store, it just felt average and perhaps a little like the old BHS store in Manchester before it shut down after the company went into administration. The toilets were average, and so were most things, it just didn't stand out as well. There was an issue with the lifts which were very slow, and the signal in store even with Free wi-fi remained poor. Overall, this is a decent store but it lacks on so many levels to the point I sadly think even two stars is slightly generous.

I think the staff are lovely in here specially around the make up area as they are very helpful. I went to the make up section in debenhams a few months ago and i wasn't sure what to buy or what suited me so the lady tried all these different products on me and after almost an hour we finally found which brand and product was for me. That lady definatly went the extra mile for me. I think the staff on the underwear section are a little bit stuck up. I once asked if i could try on a bra and they looked at me as if i had said something very offensive! The toys are great in this and as for the clothes there is definatly something for everybody here whatever your age or size. Overall a really good store that i use very often.

TK Maxx is a discounter selling last seasons designer gear for discounted prices. This means that often the sizing will be a bit funny so make sure you try everything on if you don't fancy a return visit. They stock womens, mens, kids and household items and if you keep your eyes peeled you can bag some amazing bargains. However don't forget your head, check all items for faults as some can be a bit shoddy. However I have had amazing shoes, handbags and clothes from there. I always go midweek as weekends it gets crazy. Well worth a visit if you want designer style at high street prices

This is a nice, new Marks and Spencer store, located as part of the Rochdale Riverside Retail &…read moreLeisure complex, with Marks and Spencer relocating to this new store, from their old spot in the town, this store is an upgrade for sure, with the store having a much more modern and up-to-date feel to it. The store has good facilities you'd expect to find in most Marks and Spencer locations including an M&S Cafe, Food Hall and toilet facilities. I did find the Food Hall to be a reduced selection compared to what you'd usually find in Marks and Spencer, it seems to offer a taster of the brand, more than anything else. For example, they may sell many products such as meat, dairy and fruit juices, but the choices within these sections seem to be much fewer than in other stores. I couldn't find the specific type of sausages and milk that I wanted... but there were similar alternatives Many items seemed to have a much shorter shelf life than I would have liked/expected too, I noticed the use-by date on many products to be 2-3 days, and that in a different store would be considerably longer. I understand they are restricted by Sunday trading hours, but it is a shame they are one of the first stores in town to close on a Sunday, I would much prefer their opening hours to be from 11 am to 5 pm, compared to their current 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, as the extra half hour in the afternoon makes all the difference to me. The opening hours Monday to Saturday, are much more reasonable between 8 am and 7 pm. 3* - A nice modern store, a decent size, and a great brand to have in the town, but not the best Marks and Spencer by all means, with some issues.

There were many jumpers to hand but only 1 in my size and cour. The problem was the jumper had a few pulls on it. I spoke to the girls on shop floor and very helpful. I thought I would get a decent discount but manager offered only 10 percent standard I suppose. I declined but then was amazed to see them putting the jumper back on the shelf after knowing it was damaged. The floor girls were there the manager right behind the worker putting it back on the shelve. I told the manager it was a disgrace and left the store. Marks and Spencer in Burnley is in the outside area of Charterwalk Shopping Centre within Burnley…read moretown centre, the store is OK, it is over two floors with the Food Hall on the ground floor, this does, however, mean that due to the ongoing UK government lockdown, the upper floor selling non-essential items such as clothing is closed, I do think they should have made it partially open as it also means the toilets are closed too, given a lack of public toilets around Burnley town centre. Nothing too exciting, the Food Hall range was just OK, the store was mainly clean and the overall staff attitudes were mixed, there was a lady who seemed friendly and happy to help and a man who was quite the opposite. The store does close pretty early at 6 pm, I think it would be really useful to keep it open later, like many other Marks and Spencer stores, especially for the Food Hall... on a Sunday it shuts far earlier at 4 pm as it decides to open early instead of at 10 am, this is obviously limited due to Sunday Trading laws, but I would prefer 11:30 - 17:30 on Sunday's, which is again common at other stores. 3* - OK store, some good things, some bad, it wouldn't be my favourite Marks and Spencer branch to visit but it isn't bad.

The food hall has had a it of an overhaul but besides that, they just appear to have moved things around a little bit. The Burnley store stocks clothing for men, women and children as well as homewares, food and drink and the compulsory M&S undies. There's also a small Revive café if you find the choice to overwhelming to explore in one go! The store can be a little difficult to navigate with clothes grouped into different ranges rather than clothing types. This means if you're looking for a new pair of trousers you'll have to explore the whole store if you're looking to make an informed choice. The store does get busy, particularly at sale times when it fast becomes bedlam and the food hall always seems to be busy when I visit, despite the extortionate prices!

They are also offering vaccinations at this store for COVID-19 for walk-ins and pre-booked appointments, the queues seemed to be moving rather quickly but I did not feel like the staff had a great deal of care compared to the GP led centres. I was a little annoyed that the staff spelt Pfizer wrong on my vaccination card, and did not put a plaster on the site of my vaccination, despite the presence of blood. They also told me I had to time the 15 minutes myself, and wouldn't even tell me what time it was. The little things matter when it comes to service, but still, the vaccination centre in the town centre is really convenient, and I wish they offered this service at more Boots stores. The store could do with a slight refit compared to other Boots locations, the customer lift felt like an old, grubby service lift. Product selection in-store was fine. 3*

The store is split over two floors, with upstairs having their baby clothes and gifts. This can be a little awkward for parents with pushchairs looking to browse as they have to wait for the lift. The staff are always helpful when you need gift ideas, or make up assistance - often willing to offer demonstrations and tips. Pharmacy staff are also great with advice on medical matters, and will also take you aside into a private area if needed. The store has a great layout, especially since a refit that made it seem even more spacious and with easier access for wheelchair users.
