So I had Harrington's in to do a "renovation" (their word), and I've tried to follow the program the best way I could. My understanding is that with an organic lawn care program and a reel mower I won't be able to have the manicured "green carpet" that some of my neighbors take great pride in. But once I was able to get my expectations in the right place, I've been very happy with my results. To sum it up, this is not the cheapest way to have your lawn taken care of. But if you take the long view and if reduction of lawn chemicals is important to you, it's money well-spent.

I just got back from Small Claims Court to answer Harrington's Motion to Modify Payment. The Court…read morehad awarded me a judgment for the return of the money I paid Harrington for work he didn't do. He didn't bother to show up today and his judgement was denied. Meanwhile, I wasted an hour and he didn't have to pay for the motion. Nasty guy... just did that to waste my time. His $350,000 building in Bloomfield is in the name of another corporation, Harrington Properties, LLC, so I can't attach the building, but I'll find some other assets to grab. I'll keep you posted.

Fortunately they had fallen on the ground, causing no property damage. I called Andrew, of Trout Brook Landscaping to take down the damaged branches. Andrew has done tree removal previously on my property and on my parent's, so I knew he would be the perfect man for the job. He immediately came with his equipment, and took down the heavy tree branch, and he cut down the damaged branches off the dogwood tree. He of course cleaned up all of the tree debris. Chris Lucey returned my call right away and since the work was not of an emergency nature, we agreed he would come out in October to do the work. (The other company I had called would not even look at the job until the spring.) The job included the removal of a number of dead limbs on some large oak trees, removal of two dead trees, cabling a two-trunk oak tree that had outgrown earlier cabling, as well as some pruning, which included removal of some large limbs that were growing over the roof. We also identified the need to take down a large oak in the front lawn that had some woodpecker activity. I was reluctant to take it down, but I respected Chris' professional opinion that the tree was compromised and a hazard due to its proximity to the electrical lines. I am so glad that he convinced me of this - once it was down we saw that the tree's core was basically hollowed out. Tree work is never cheap but Chris' pricing was very reasonable and I would not hesitate to use his services again. His crew was great - they were all courteous and respectful of the property. They did a great job with cleanup, removing all wood and debris - they even moved a pile of leaves we hadn't gotten to yet.

My wife called a number of seal coat contractors. The amazing thing is that one actually answered the phone. Although Jim was having lunch at the time, he said he would come my in a half hour and sure enough, he did. He took a look at my driveway, said he had some time between jobs and would take care of it the next day and for a great price! No deposit, only a handshake. He came by as promised, and made short order of it blowing off leaves and debris, sealing the cracks and doing an outstanding job with the seal coat! Well worth the price and a pleasure to work with! By the way, a week later and not one other contractor we called bothered to even respond. I am glad we caught Jim during lunch (I am not sure he was) and had him complete this project! I not only recommend him here, but am letting other family members know who to call for driveway cracks and seal coating.

1-Star Review - Warning: Do Not Hire Anselmo's Sealcoating…read more I strongly urge anyone considering Anselmo's Sealcoating to look elsewhere. My experience with this company has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. I hired them to sealcoat my driveway, and within less than a month, the asphalt started to deteriorate. It was clear that incredibly cheap and low-quality materials were used. The surface began to crack and flake almost immediately -- something that should never happen with a proper sealcoating job. I contacted Anselmo (the owner) multiple times -- at least 15 -- and every time he had a different excuse for not showing up to fix the issue. He promised to come back and make things right, but those were just empty words. It's obvious now that he had no intention of following through. This company does not stand behind its work, and in my experience, Anselmo is dishonest and unreliable. Don't fall for promises or a friendly attitude up front -- once he has your money, you're on your own. Please learn from my mistake. Protect your property and your wallet -- do not hire Anselmo's Sealcoating.
