Worst possible process and service. Agree with the previous comments that it is done on purpose, not to let any foreigners stay in Vienna for longer than 90 days. If you really want to or must stay longer than 90 days, either apply in rural area, or even better, in another EU country. Otherwise, research what exact documents you will need (they love to demand, for example, letters from your work saying you have to be in Vienna for such and such period, official letter from police in your home country that you are not a criminal, which usually required fingerprinting in person, and the worst/most expensive of all - that you must have Austrian-only health insurance, which is very, very expensive. They will not accept another one, even if you have one which covers Austria - a complete violation of EU competition rules. But they get away with anything. We just got frustrated and left early.
