I scored several plants I had not seen elsewhere -- Thimbleweed, Canada Mayflower, Solomon's Plume, Bellwort. I passed on the Northern Bedstraw which my parents viewed as a horrible weed. I spent too many hours pulling it out of flower beds in my childhood to want to introduce it into mine now. Prices were reasonable. Definitely worth a stop.

The plants here were in much better condition than in many, many other garden centers this time of year (though there are always a few "tired"/dormant plants even at the best places). The nursery's focus is on native plants, and they had a very good selection. My favorite aspect of this nursery was that there was a sign next to each plant that indicated how large it grows, flower color, what kinds of wildlife benefit from it and so on. This kept my husband occupied, so he didn't pace around, staring at his watch and sighing. We ended up buying--among other things--a cinnamon fern because (according to the sign), hummingbirds visit it in the spring to get soft material to line their tiny nests.

She was a real blessing since our original photographer cancelled on us last minute and left us in a terrible place. My husband and I had a great time taking photos and she had such great ideas. Her pricing was more than fair and the quality was superb. I cannot recommend this photographer enough, she is just wonderful.

After too many frustrating experiences, I am so glad that a friend recommended Van's when I needed replacement windows in 2009, and I was so happy with that experience I hired them again in 2013 for siding. Here's the difference between Van's and pretty much everybody else I've dealt with: they provide customized professional work for less than what the amateurish one-size-fits-all companies charge. Not allowed to name competitors, but in windows and siding you know the companies I mean: big names, lots of advertising and phony discounts (that is, jack the price up so they can give you 20% off) mostly job the work out to fly-by-night or untrained subcontractors. Van's pays great attention to detail and like I said, customizes the job. Maybe that customization isn't so important on a 10-year-old house, but is sure is on a 60-year-old one. Every one of my windows was a slightly different size, and needed finesse to make them look like originals. And the siding job required similar skill. I can't recommend them highly enough - and I"ll never use anybody else!

The employees who put our window put dents in our aluminum siding which was impossible to find to match since the aluminum siding was at least 20 years old. They actually thought it was ok until I showed the salesman.It wasn't being picky it was unbelievable I then actually watched them as they worked and inspected their work. I had them do things over because of their sloppiness .I guess dents in new trim are acceptable. After they left, I found more damage(more dents, bent screen) The sloppiest workmanship ever. I would definitely steer clear if I was having work done or if building a new home. The salesman was ok but it must have been frustrating for him. It definitely was a nightmare. Please take my advice, there are a lot of businesses out there who provide good workmanship.

I visited around Christmastime, so everything was decorated nicely and festively. They sell all kinds of cute ornaments, and I was this close to purchasing one, but then remembered that I have children who break everything, so I stopped myself from getting a $35 glass ornament. They sell lots of boutique clothing at Bliss -- mostly women's clothing and kids' clothing, but many of the pieces are unique and imported. I could spend a lot of time (and money) at Bliss aka The Marketplace. It's located in downtown Sturgeon Bay, and walkable to all kinds of shops and restaurants.
