I've been going to Mabel Wadsworth for 20 years, and have been extremely impressed with the care they offer. They really care about providing an empowering patient experience and offering care from a feminist, trans-affirming perspective. They also have worked hard to expand the types of care they offer in order to actually meet patient needs, which reflects a deeper understanding on their part of how healthcare barriers and bureaucracy actually impact patients - something most doctor's offices are just not concerned with. One of the standouts is their care navigation services, which is a dedicated staff member whose job it is to help you navigate the more complex requirements and processes for things like gender-affirming surgery or sterilization. A gem in a conservative city like Bangor, ME- basically doing the (incredibly important) work of a Planned Parenthood with a different name. They say they are LGBTQIA+ friendly and they actually mean it. The nurses are compassionate and non judgmental. I live in Chicago now but am from Hampden and was always treated with kindness here, even when I didn't have insurance, which is definitely not always the case. Wonderful place! read more

Bottom line: I'm trans. I came here for a consultation with Dr. Lindsey Piper. I was naturally a little apprehensive before I came here but things worked out REALLY well. She was warm and affirming and treated me and my partner as a lesbian couple (as it should be). I could not want anything better out of a clinic like this. I cannot say enough good things about the lovely people at Mabel's. They balance quality medical care with being respectful and compassionate. They provide care for folks who don't have insurance to cover their costs (incredible.) They have a variety of services from annual check-ups, STI checks, prenatal care, LGBTQIA+ Adult group therapy, and so much more. If you are new to the area and trans/GNC, these are the medical practitioners for you!
