I read the Calgary Herald every day. (My newspaper delivery person is amazing - rain, sleet or…read moresnow, my paper is always there...) The Herald has a great Real Life section that I always enjoy, along with the Travel section. It's usually a nice combination of reading. I've noticed that they have a few more things going on online and if you're a subscriber you get a password to sign on for more features, etc. I'm sure they are trying to find their place in this everchanging media world. That's what they need more immediate online content 'cause that's what people want...at least that's what I want, and it's already going on elsewhere, so it really is time for the Herald to make it's leap, which I have full confindence that they will...and I'll be right there reading it all online!

It must be that the Calgary Herald is trying to get us to stop our home delivery and go digital…read more Again, for the 3rd day in a row no paper. Also no one to talk to....talk to the machine! Besides the paper only being about 20 pages no I w which is also just wrong I am about to cancel my subscription. What is the point when I can go to the grocery store and get one? Aaaarrrggh! I had a great delivery guy who had the paper in my mailbox by 4 am. Now, if I am lucky enough to get it, it is delivered after I leave for work. Good going guys. Let the thieves know I am not home. Of course there will be no reply to me....that would take a real person.

A high quality magazine with…read morevibrant photos, local content, fresh writing - you know, a magazine that reflects the metropolitan city Calgary is quickly becoming. Three, four, five (?) years later, sometimes I feel like I can predict the issues before they come out. The wedding issue, the style issue, the Top 40 under 40 issue, the Stampede issue, the this and the that issue. They have a formula it seems but in my opinion, at least it works. The articles are usually fresh and new as the writer's at Avenue clearly keep up with local trends. They seem to have a pretty good idea of what sells ads in each issue. And they sell a lot of ads. A lot. Of ads. And I'm not judging because I get that to produce a free monthly magazine, something has got to pay the bills. I'm a big fan of businesses that actually cover their operating expenses. My favourite part of the magazine is the very last page, a little diddy they call "The View From Here" where they select photograph's taken by local photographers. I like to see different perspective's of Calgary and I love that they give away a free one year subscription to a magazine that's already free - hey it's the thought that counts.

It is so wonderful that Avenue has managed to survive so long but yes, they have definitely adopted a formula for both their content and design. A surprise now and then would be nice.
