If you are seeking peace and quite, sneak off into one of the little cubby rooms to read, meditate, make phone calls or work on your computer. There are plenty of open spaces to relax and unwind with a good book or magazine while still participating in a public, social experience. There are plenty of windows to gaze out into the beautiful park or quaint city scenery. They have books for those that struggle to read with smaller print. There is a very large section of large print books. A children and teen section as well as every subject the adult could want for book selection. They have an atrium where you can snack and be loud, but the inside has the expectation of quiet! They have a little "bookstore" at the very front, I assume for books they want to retire, and operate off the honor system! Everything is $3 or LESS! Lots of carts marked $1 or 2/$1. I think they may have reading classes or story hour for children in the mornings, I got here at 9:30 and heard what sounded like a teacher talking to parents about their kids! They have toy bags and activities for young kids, a fish tank, and a globe! It's overall a really comfy place to spend quiet time in the Word.

As we drove up I noticed a playground next to the library...how very convenient. You can take your young ones to play and afterwards they can check out the aquarium and explore all the fascinating reads that are inside the library. When I entered the building I was overcome with joy in seeing the huge, clear aquarium; so beautiful! There is a mighty, huge blue fish in the tank. I must admit, I felt bad for such a big fish being in a small tank but it sure was a wonder to admire him. There is a section up front where you can purchase used books and puzzles. Further to the right is the children's area full of fun items to explore. The main area is so pretty, I felt like I might have wandered into a ski lodge with the fireplace going and floor to ceiling windows displaying Michigan winter glory. There is a pretty courtyard for viewing. There is a resource room for using printers and computers. The employees were knowledgeable and friendly.

Being as I don't live in Oxford but had a student at the High School, I knew I wanted to belong to this library. For me, there is a limit on how much I can take out at one time, but that's ok. I still have full access to everything they provide. Back when my daughter was in school, she participated in a lot of the young adult things they had going on, even volunteered during the summer to help with programs. I've always thought the crafts idea was great-they have them for all ages and in more recent years, my step-son has been enjoying the crafts. He also has used the play area where they have puzzles, kid computers, puppets, books, etc. I haven't been able to get him to any fun events-but there seems to have been some good ones.... We mostly over the past year have been checking out books, movies, even music. Of course last year, 2020 was a tough year and everyone had to learn how to do business in a new way, updated ways, or completely different. But libraries seem to have held strong and I certainly appreciate them! They have a summer reading program I try to be a part of where you can win prizes. I've been able to set goals for myself with this as a tool to get some reading done! I THINK they may have a winter program-but have to check on that one.... This year I've been taking advantage of the adult section of the library-it's huge! Lots of books, new book section easy to find, an area with computers-some nooks of quiet spots where you can bring your own computer and work quietly. Lots of sitting areas, some by the big fireplace that gets lit in the afternoons during winter. And-huge windows along the back looking out over the trail & new playground Oxford put up this summer. I have enjoyed spending hours here this fall as I have 2 people working remotely from home and it's a nice break for me. I can get on my computer in silence or read a book! Last thing I want to mention is you must wear a mask when going inside. They do have signs up for that. If you don't have one, they usually have some right when you walk in.

While in the process of packing and moving, the kids and I took a break from visiting our library. I didn't want to borrow material and then possibly loose items during the move. The Graubner Library is located just north of 30 Mile Rd, on Van Dyke and was the closest to our new home. On our 1st visit I was throughly impressed. Not only with the size and amenities available at this public library but with the staff, that was more than welcoming, friendly and helpful. They signed me and 3 of my children up for our own library cards. My kids got a kick out of having their own cards, as this was a first for them. Since moving to our new home we have been to this library a half a dozen times, in just 8 weeks. We have borrowed approximately 30 items, including books, magazines and DVDs. Can you tell we really love the library! This library, as with all other libraries I've been to gets 5 Stars from me. How can they not!? This is a FREE service and resource center available to EVERYONE!! Kids and adults should really take advantage and make use of your public library. People "read" too much on their phones/devices. I've been saying, for years, books will soon be extinct, and then what!?! That would be a sad day, to not have anymore documented text/reading material. It will be a hard sought after thing like the Bible in the Book of Eli. (Haven't seen it- go to the library and borrow it! Fantastic movie with Denzel Washington) Pick up a book. Turn real pages. Read to your kids and elders. Read for your own knowledge and take yourself on an adventure of the imagination. Borrow a book on a hobby you want to start or something you want to learn to do. Support your local library and tell the librarians Thank You for all they do! Side note, this library has an amazing kids section, offers MANY free clubs, events, activities for both kids and adults. It also has tons of PC for your use. DVD rentals are FREE and don't have late charges. There is a 24 hour drop box for returns. Oh, and in case you're forgotten what a library is- cuz you haven't stepped foot into one since grade school----" a library is a collection of materials, books or media that are easily accessible for use and not just for display purposes. It is responsible for housing updated information in order to meet the user's needs on a daily basis. A library provides physical (hard copies documents) or digital access (soft copies) materials, and may be a physical location or a virtual space, or both. Beautiful, small library located in a bucolic setting. There is something here for everyone. The…read morechildren section includes a large fish tank. The teen section had a separate area for them to relax in. The personnel are very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a bookstore that is located, without walls, in the middle of the library. We were able to load as many books, puzzles, dvd's, etc into one plastic bag for $1.00! I walked away with 3 puzzles, 1 audio book on cd, 1 magazine and 4 books for $1.00, that's amazing. They have a fireplace, which will come in handy in the next few weeks. It is easy to locate any type of book or media material that you are looking for. There is plenty of available parking. If you are driving south on old Van Dyke you might drive right past this gem as the signage is small and dark. They are just North of the Taco Bell, Salvation Army and Tractor store...stop on in if you are in the neighborhood.
