It wasn't until the school relocated to the former Woodlands Girls Grammar School site that it became the school it is today. Both of my daughters attended this school and I can't say enough about it. The ground and the school buildings are picturesque and steeped in history. I used to love helping out with reading, sitting above the cloisters with beautiful views across the oval and Glenelg. My last daughter left here 4 years ago but back when they were both here the teachers were amazing, and very dedicated. The former headmaster, Roger Taylor was an outstanding Headmaster, and it was a very sad day when he retired, leaving very big shoes to fill. Things have changed a little in the last few years with well rennovated modern classrooms built, in keeping with the older buildings. The school has both a strong academic focus as well as a wonderful sports and music programs. They have also always had an artist in residence so the fine arts are well represented too. The school has a wonderful community feel and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

We were forced to hire a tutor on top of what is essentially a very expensive school because the school failed to help our daughter. Frustratingly the Headmaster is Utopian - "we are all happy here at St Peters Woodlands". They do have a Boost programme which is spasmodic and, for our daughter at least, failed to follow up on any requests. In our experience we have had to fight - phone calls, meetings - to get anywhere. There is another thing to consider - when they reach grade three the classes drop from four to three which means that the number of students per class dramatically rises. My daughters class this year has 29 students, my niece in a public school has 28. If your son/daughter has any problem this is a real issue. They disguise all of these issues by beautifully manicured grounds. For almost seven thousand dollars a year you would expect a lot more from this school

Boasting a huge outdoor, with a picnic turf garden, play area, sandpit, a covered deck for easels and painting activities and a vege patch, affectionately grown by the students and teachers ( they later cook them in the kindy!), there is so much of fun and activity to do here. I've met some wonderful family here and earned some good friends from this kindy. The kindy has a beautiful mixture of multicultural families and is very popular with families in the southern suburbs. My son has many happy memories here, and still talks about his kindy days when we visit the nearby park.

Ann is the Director and has a wealth of experience about young children's development. She still remembers my son's name when we see her about the suburbs two years after he was a student there. Quite impressive given the number of children that attend each year. The kindy is in a heritage house on Oxford Terrace between the Unley council and the Unley oval. Each of the rooms has been converted into a themed play area. There's a kitchen for staff use and cooking lessons, art and crafts room, music and general area and an office. Outside you'll find a huge sandpit with toys (one of my son's favourite areas), a raised platform/play area, swings and an outdoor courtyard with tables and chairs and an area displaying that day's drying artwork. I attended a few functions here and there were a really lovely group of parents. Places here are hard to secure, especially given the placement changes from 2012.

On purpose…read more Luckily for parents that send their kids here my nephews an exception, and let me tell you when I picked him up from kindy today he was the only one drawing outside the lines. Ha. Mind you he's a brilliant drawer. The kids here are bright and awfully cute. Perhaps this is somewhat testament to the great learning environment that Unley Kindy provides... and good parenting! In fact the parents are friendly, the teachers are great and the kids really seem to be enjoying themselves. In my sisters case I know one of her initial concerns was that as her son entered into his kindy and primary school years that he would fall under the radar, thus not receiving adequate attention. Thankfully this has not been the case with Unley Kindergarten, and my sister has been kept in the know-how regarding is learning and development. One thing that I found especially cute was that Unley Kindergarten also has Greek and Italian mother-tongue. There is a lot of culture within the premises, which is ever so important in the Australian multicultural society that we live in. It is nice to see. Not to mention that Oxford Terrace is one of the nicest streets in the area. Lucky kids!

The Sacred Heart Chapel is consequently is very popular as a wedding venue. The Chapel itself was opened and blessed back in 1924 and is dedicated to the memory of the many Sacred Heart old scholars who fought and died during World War I. It is officially known as The Sacred Heart College Memorial Chapel. Not just a wedding venue this Chapel (it's called a Chapel because it is decidedly smaller than a church and caters for a smaller congregation) has played an important part in the spiritual education of generations of students who have studied at Sacred Heart. What I like about this particular Chapel is that its open to all who wish to use it as a wedding venue. The school welcomes Old Collegians, College family members and other 'people of goodwill' who wish to use this beautiful facility as the setting for their marriage ceremony. I attended Mitcham Girls High School more years ago than I care to admit. At present Mitcham is the…read moreonly public all girls school in South Australia which is the main point of difference worth noting. This means the yearly fee for all students is $555, instead of the thousands you would be obliged to pay to attend any other all girls school in the state. I found the curriculum followed and level of support generally to be of a high standard. These factors, were of course, as I am sure they are in all schools dependant on the teachers taking the classes. Some clearly appealed to my style of learning more than others. The school day runs from 8:40 am to 3:15 pm. I found the sporting and extra-curricular areas especially rewarding. There are also several opportunities provided by the school to do a small amount of travel, on organised camps and excursions. The facilities were generally very good with a large gymnasium, large open greenspace, shaded quadrangle and even a swimming pool on the campus. There is a small tuck shop and all but final year students are not allowed to go off campus during the school day.

An all-girls environment does not work for all people, but it did for me. I feel confident with myself and transitioning into uni and Tafe in a couple of years. It used to be known as Bowden Brompton and I'm glad it got rid of that name as it had a really bad wrap and this place isn't that bad. It basically works on a referral service from schools in the southern area. If your child is having lots of issues, mainly focussed around behaviour issues rather than actual learning difficulties, then this is where they send them. It has it's disadvantages but you hope they are outweighed by the advantages. The teachers there are absolutely fantastic though. The handle things really well and have much smaller classes. Usually your child is only here for a maximum of 10 weeks - which in my child's case tends to disrupt his routine too much and cause more hassles having so many changes. And they pick your child up and drop them off with a provided taxi service. Older children even end up going to boot camp style Operation Flinders if they are here in about October each year. Although my children managed when they had to go here short term (all at different times mind you) I was worried about the worse behaviours other kids there may have and that they might rub off onto mine. It all worked out okay though.

They have more SSO support than most schools and are a specialty disability school as well as a normal mainstream public school. They also have a great OSHC facility on site which we used being full time working parents. The schools communication was extremely effective with the teacher even emailing out weekly newsletters - which was great when we rarely saw the teacher as we would drop off and pick up from OSHC. There was a little disruption when he was there with some building works occuring due to additional schools funding. He was in a huge hall as a temporary classroom but it would all be finished now and would look even better.

The school is structured differently from all public and private schools, it is like a bridge between school and university. You are given a lot more freedom, but the academic level is still extremely high. How school works is you have two 2-hour classes for each subject. Your hours vary depending what subjects you do, but the day starts at 8am and finishes at 5pm. You refer to the teachers by their first name, which enables you to be on a more equal level with them, it is less like a dictatorship. They are very helpful and often in their office able to help you with any questions or problems. All the teachers say, if you do the work they ask, you will do well. This is very true, the lessons and homework they give is exactly what you need to do well in every subject. There are no extra curricular subjects available at Eynesbury. You can't play sport, however, there are so many clubs around Adelaide that if you do want to play a sport it is easy to do so. I loved the location of Eynesbury. It is just off Victoria Square and they now have a new campus off Gouger Street. You can sit in the Square on breaks and you are right near the markets. Think of the food you can get for lunch, no more over-priced un-tasty cafeteria food. The city also makes it very convenient to catch public transport to and from school.

I found the level of education and support provided by the teaching staff excellent. It was a highly supportive and nurturing environment, particularly for academically strong students. The expectations and standards are high for students. The freedom of dress, calling teachers by their first name and flexibility afforded by free periods was an excellent preperation for university. I do, however think this style is more effective for final year students and those independantly motivated. I am glad I didn't go to Eynesbury in year 10 & 11, as I believe my rebellious streak would have flourished a little more freely than in the traditional school system. I also enjoyed PE in my younger schooling and it would have been detrimental to my health and wellbeing to opt out of it at an earlier age. As Sam said, the subjects offered were all core academic subjects and the majority of SACE subjects offered were PES.
