I had been in a life-threatening car accident and had been in ICU for over a week. I so appreciated their care and concern, however, it was hard due to my extreme pain (pain medications administered were not sufficient), it was hard to appreciate the visits. At one point with 4-5 visitors in the room, struggling emotionally and to track conversations; Mr. Melchior and his wife (who I'd known personally) burst into the room requiring all attention wanting to know "How was I supposed to find out about this?". I didn't respond, and was then asked "Who was at fault?". The circumstances of the accident were extenuating. I'm not sure how I communicated that to him, however, as abruptly as he burst into the room, he and his wife left. I'd heard of "ambulance chasers", however, knowing him personally and how he represented himself morally and ethically, I wouldn't have expected him to utilize this type of behavior to obtain a client for his business. I am so disappointed in the "man" I thought I had known. A year after the accident, I'm finally beginning to function fully and with relatively little pain.
