Went here emergency dress shopping 2 days before my birthday after having decided to have a theme party at the last minute and ordered some dresses online but not being sure if/how anything would fit, so wanted to have a backup just in case. We got there around 8:15 and they close at 9 so it was seriously a mad rush! I had to deploy the hubs to divide and conquer and browse the racks - which I have to say they definitely had a LOT of dresses, so no lack of choices! We both searched and picked up a few dresses. I tried them all on and finally selected the one dress which turns out the hubs had picked out - great find!! We were the last to checkout. They almost took all my stuff out of the dressing room while I was showing my dress to the hubs outside. I had to rescue all the clothes - whew! Anyway I got a fantastic deal - so pleased, fit me perfectly and I wore it for my birthday and got lots of compliments! Service was good. I used a store gift card and I still had money left to spare on it! We parked in a garage nearby using SpotHero., wasn't too expensive. Easy walk. Was completely horrified walking around shopping at MACYS, when I noticed some young students with backpacks hiding behind counters and dodging maybe employees in the bed lining and cookware depts and noticing there were up to no good..... I walked pass them at least 5 young Males some with shorts. Running and before they left the downstairs dept I told a female employee (African American) long black hair, just hanging around not doing anything and asked her to call SECURITY and she looked at me like I had two heads and did NOT REACT OR MOVE.... Then those boys ran past and up the escalators and I told another employee who might have been Latina Told her to call SECURITY and she said that's not my department and laughed.! Frustrated with the lack of respect for MACYS I WENT UPSTAIRS AND ASKED FOR A MANAGER...I was directed to one in the Shoe Dept walking named REBECCA WHOM I EXPLAINED WHAT I NOTICED! She was sympathetic and said she will handle it. She asked me for my number if I wanted a follow up and gave it to her! I said if it was up to me those two uncaring employees should be FIRED! This Macy's was interesting. They had a lot of summer clothing despite it being October. That surprised me. They did have a lot of boots to choose from. I tried on a couple pair of boots but nothing really jived for me. I did end up purchasing a Calvin Klein blouse. The store is spaced out nicely. I think there were three levels. A nice lady helped me in the shoes department. She took the time to answer questions even though she had lots of customers around her. That was the opposite of the clothing department where it took quite a while to find someone to ring me up even though there were no customers. This is probably the nicest department store in Downtown Boston. They also have a Starbucks on the first floor. read more

This Macy's is not an especially luxurious one, but it is, undoubtedly, a reliable one. I have run to one of the beauty counters there in a panic. I was attending a wedding as a bridesmaid who needed to figure out her own makeup. The Lancome counter was more than courteous and helpful in figuring out what I needed and what was most suitable. I was very grateful. The Clinique counter has come though for me in a pinch, as well. When I have ordered something online and requested the item be sent to my local Macy's, this store has always made collecting my order easy, if not quick (it's a popular pick up location, so there may be a line). I just wish they had more sales associates around in general! read more

My Macy's card was declined at the Downtown Crossing Store last weekend. The clerk was nice enough to call credit cards services so I could see why. The reason it was declined was because it was closed because it hadn't been used since 2020 and it was a "security measure". They did this without notifying me! In case they were living in a cave, we had a pandemic going on starting in 2020! However, I was told by the person at credit services that I was welcome to reapply. I used another card instead and won't be reapplying for a new card. PS. So this time I figured to just go there and get the stuff I wanted to give to my friend. So I went and fell in line and this Chinese middle aged lady was the cashier. I asked if I could get something to get picked up the next day but she was like No and she stated entertaining those other Chinese people that kept on speaking in Chinese and just left me there in line until she came back. Macy's just elevatored their stars in my eyes! This location added Macy's Back Stage to their 2nd floor. It is a like a Marshalls or TJ Maxx built right into Macy's! Great finds from housewares to clothing! This store is VERY clean and neat. The staff are always nice to me. Starbucks inside of Macy's on the 1st Floor opens at 11 am for the time-being. It is best to take the T to get to this location as parking can be expensive. read more

Let's set this straight, I didn't think I would ever review a department store like Macy's but here I am typing my life away. This Macy's been here (in downtown) since I can remember as a young child (actually it was Filene's but they moved across the street or under the tunnel to the current location). Majority of the clothes are in a neat pile and not like a tornado compare to other Macy's within a 100 mile radius. They offer more sales here than other Macy's and a bigger selection of a variety of sizes and styles from clothes to shoes and a decent home department. Bathroom is typically disgusting for the women on both basement and third floor. I can overlook it since it's not Nordstrom with higher standards for basically everything but what caught me off guard was when I lifted up pillows from their semi-decorated beds when shopping for furnitures and beds for my new home... there's mouse poop everywhere!!! I'm so disgusted by it. If anyone is interested, it's the "light gray" Monroe bed on the basement floor close to the ladies restroom and many other furnitures. Despite having many childhood memories shopping with my girls after school or with my mom at this Macy's, I don't think I can ever shop here anymore. Corporate, please give them more hours to clean or hire a cleaning company to help clean your big department store!!! read more

So Macy's generally falls under my "it is what it is" category. They are one of the last department stores standing and they really should be better about a lot of things customer service, selection, amenities, et al --since retail continues to teeter--despite their genuine connection to the original "Miracle on 34th Street" film. But I digress -- back in November 2019, I ventured into the downtown crossing Macy's store but only went to the first floor cosmetics area--it has a Sephora like section with different upscale brands--a general sales person offered to assist, I told her I was just looking and I would seek her out if I needed assistance. I found my item, she rang me up and we chatted, and no up-selling, etc. It was good but brief visit. I did venture any further into the store which I guess is a chronic problem. read more

This store has devolved into a flea market. Today I went to Macy's in downtown Boston and gave two pairs of slacks to Cindy, who was wandering around aimlessly in the men's department. She told me she can't ring them up and that I'd need a cashier. I took them to another cash register on the other side of the store. There, a young man with blue hair who seemed to be sleep walking (eyes half shut, barely mumbling) told me my card was rejected and that I would have to go to a third register for the matter to be checked out. I did so and was put on the phone with some woman who wanted my cell phone number (did not provide it) and told me that the card was expired because it was replaced with a new card which I apparently never received. I told her I could simply buy my slacks at another store with my VISA card and hung up. On the way out, I walked by Cindy who was ringing up a sale for another customer!!!! This store should be shut down in the public interest....management wonders why we shop online! Pathetic! read more

Things here are generally really expensive. It's in a nice location downtown nearby other shopping stores, which is nice if you are out looking for something and want to explore different options. I went in to buy a jacket that was a little out of my price range, but was surprised to find out at the register that there were coupon codes that could be applied to knock 30% off the item!! Naima was the associate that checked me out at the register. Thanks to her, I payed much less than I was prepared to and walked away with something that will make me very happy for years to come! Clothes everywhere - floor, over racks (but not necessarily hanging), on chairs in the shoe department - and it looks like a yard sale where someone put a sign that read "FREE". I will NEVER order from Macys.com again. I have always been a loyal Macy's customer. Last month, I ordered a $200 item 3 weeks in advance of a birthday, and now, a month later, it is "still processing." I have spent about 4 hours on the phone with customer service this last week - and each person assured me the item would be shipped and they would give me 1 day shipping - and that I should hang up and wait for an email - and I would DEFINITELY receive the item by the end of the week. After waiting another week (missing the birthday) and demanding to speak to 2 different supervisors (after being told the same thing by the customer service agent and being on hold for another hour) - I was told the item is discontinued and the best they could offer is cancel my order. No apology or store credit for trying to trust Macy's, wasting 4+ hours with their customer service, and missing a birthday when I planned a month in advance....unacceptable. read more

I recently visited Macys on Washington Street in Boston. I visited the shoe department and found a pair of shoes I wanted to try. The agent told me it would be two to three minutes while he searched for the shoes. He then proceeded to spend several minutes arranging shoes before he went to search for my shoes. 15 minutes later he emerged with the shoes. I tried them on and decided to buy them. No one was around. I waited at the register for an additional 10 minutes and no one emerged. I ended up leaving the shoes on the desk. I then found a jacket I wanted to buy. I couldn't find any place to purchase it. When I did find a register it was 10 people deep. I abandoned the jacket and left. So unfortunate to experience this low level of service. My friend and I went boot shopping this weekend. 'Tis the season and Macy's friends and family deal was a good reason to go (or so we thought). After trying on a few pairs of boots, my friend decided that her best bet was to get Uggs as we both already have them and know that they are great for keeping warm in the winter. After waiting ages at the register (when only two customers were in front of us and three were working the register) it was finally our turn. We get to the register and the price rings up to the regular price of $160. I ever so kindly asked about 30% off friends and family discount and the cashier, Shirley, began her tirade: "WHERE IN AMERICA CAN YOU EVER GET UGGS ON SALE??!!" "DID YOU SEE A SIGN ON THE UGG TABLE? THERE WAS NO SIGN THERE!!" My friend was still going to buy them but due to the cashiers behavior, decided not to. Macy's friends and family is a storewide sale and the signs were definitely not on every single table in the shoe department. The cashier purposefully yelled and caused a scene as if she were trying to embarrass us. I told her she was rude. We left and continued the boot search at DSW. Well, Shirley if you are reading this, we actually did find Uggs on sale there. Uggs are on sale in America. How about that! The "Finish Line" athletic shoes department leaves a lot to be desired. Employees here are unresponsive at best. I'm not sure why I've slowly grown obsessed with this Macy's, but I have. I think it's because a department store symbolizes the bustling urban culture of a simpler era. Well-to-do men in fedoras and overcoats shopping alongside women in heels and fur. Walking through collections of jewelry and home goods, hoping to find that perfect gift for your best friend that you've known your whole life. Just a bit of whimsy in the air. A pleasant fancy, right? Well, I get a bit of that at Macy's. I've stopped by on a lunch break, or right after work, looking for a new pan for my sister's boyfriend or a tin of Moose Munch for a Yankee Swap. I enter through the menswear section at the corner of Chauncy and Summer, and make my way down the escalator. The store has a big footprint, and you'll be able to buy a suit, put that suit on while you're picking out bedding, then fantasize about taking a nap on that bedding while you select a Cuisinart mixer for your mom. The service in each department I've visited has been very good, and you won't find a more efficiently run place of that size during the holiday season. There's a ton of clothes, as you might expect, pawed over often, especially when there's a sale (when ISN'T there a sale or a "preview day" going on?). Sometimes you'll find some bargains, sometimes it just brings the clothes back down to a competitive price. This store also has a large selection of bedding, kitchen supplies, and luggage, some of which was ridiculously overpriced. A lot of the sales clerks are really enthusiastic about trying to sell you things. In short, your typical Macy's. The store is in a very convenient location downtown. One thing they really need here is a better set of directories. They should include maps of the layout of each floor at the entrances and at the escalators. read more

The worst customer service I placed an order online for $96.00. The order was supposed to contain 4 items, but it only contained 2. After numerous, frustrating calls having to explain the issue to multiple service reps I received a credit of $48.00 for the 2 items that were not received. I later found out that I am blocked from placing any online orders at Macys or Bloomingdales indefinitely. I have been a loyal customer for over 25 years and spend thousands of dollars and I am being punished for a mistake that Macys made. I am restricted to only in-store orders.
