Tonight was my last visit to this Macy's location. Yes, it's true, I've finally had it. After five years of shopping here I'm freakin DONE.
The store is always a wreck, it looks like a tornado has passed through everything. The juniors section and the women's shoe sections are the absolute worst. It's impossible to find things or in some cases even walk down the aisles because they're clogged with dropped clothing. The racks are disorganized; clothes are tangled up with each other, random items are draped over others. In the shoe department the employees work on commission for some reason, and you're expected to remember the name of the person who fetched your shoes for you from the back room. I actually had a cashier tell me once that they would not ring up my purchase because I could not tell them who helped me- seriously.
Today I came in and dealt with that. It was about 15-20 minutes to get into a fitting room in the juniors section, which is the usual amount of time you wait. This time there was no attendant, which was great because it meant I could take in all 15 of my items at once. But once I got into my fitting room I saw that no one had been there to clean for some time- there was a MOUNTAIN of discarded clothes in the corner, and the bar to hang your clothes on was overflowing. I heard other women commenting around me- all the rooms were like this. The lock on the door did not work. The room itself was filthy, and the whole place smelt like urine. Yes, urine, which isn't the first time I've noticed this. Disgusting.
When I had decided what I wanted I went looking for a price checker. I couldn't find one, but I did notice a group of four Macy's employees who looked like they were from corporate. Big smiles, eager to help, clipboards, etc. They took the time to point out where the scanner was, and to also tell me about the Macy's app that lets you scan any Macy's barcode and bring up the price. Which is great if you want to give Macy's certain permissions on your phone, I did not, so I went to the price checker and...it was broken.
Then it was time to pay. Macy's has always had the slowest, most miserable cashiers of any store I've been to. Someone is always doing a 20 minute return, or trying to pay a credit card bill that has complications. They move extremely slowly and clearly do not care. But why should they? I've had two friends work for the company and they tell me awful things about how the employees are treated. They were clearly short staffed today, as it seems they always are, and who wants to do the work of two or more people for the same amount of money?
Anyway, I waited about another 15-20 minutes on line, because right when I got to the register my cashier left to help a woman get an item. OK, that can be understandable if you're short staffed. But she was the only woman up there (the other cashier had also left her register to do something regarding one of those complicated returns). Instead of coming back to the line that was now about 8 people deep, she began to dress a mannequin. Seriously. She did this for a good 10 freakin minutes. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she gets penalized if the mannequins aren't prepped right, and she did thank me for my patience when she returned, but that's just ridiculous.
I hope the guys from corporate were taking notice of everything here, but who knows. JCPenny is so similar and yet it never gets like this. If you can believe it, even H&M and Forver21 have less nonsense, shorter lines, cleaner stores, and better employees.
Seriously guys, if you don't want to maintain your store, treat customers and employees alike with respect, or put in any effort to make money- leave. It's a nice chunk of real estate that maybe someone else would be better suited to take over. read more
