Strawberry Chocolate, Biscoff, and Crème Brûlée Sandos
    Michelle S.

I went to Mad Bird Hot Chicken because my friend wanted to check it out. It's been trending all over social media. When we got there on a Friday night at around 8:30pm, I was surprised to see a long line outside. The line moved decently quickly -- I think we got to the front in about 20-30 minutes. We ordered the Japanese dessert sandos: The Strawberry Chocolate, The Biscoff, and the Creme Brûlée. The Dubai Chocolate flavor was sold out. The employee at the front was super passionate about these sandos and insisted that we eat them immediately. They were ready within 10 minutes. The sandos were not hot at all, despite the bread being deep fried and made to order. The cream filling was light and cool. The sandos weren't as sweet or heavy as I was expecting -- which was good because I don't like overly sweet or greasy things. All 3 flavours were good, but the creme brûlée was my personal favourite because of the torched custard. Each sando is quite small, you can eat them in 3-4 bites! They are $6.99 each. I don't know how these compare to the Ginza sandos in Japan that these are inspired by. The restaurant is quite small and has maybe 3-4 tables that can seat 4 people, and a counter seating area that can seat 3 people. It is an "order at the till" type of establishment. We didn't order any of the hot chicken menu items but they looked delicious. Other people ordered the sandwiches and they were quite big and reasonably priced! I would come back to try them next time. Since the restaurant is located in a plaza there is ample free parking.

Biscoff, Dubai choco (with sweet cream instead of chocolate), and strawberry

We sat down at one of eight tables before I went up to the counter to place our order. The cashier began entering the order into the cash register beginning with the drinks, followed by the desert selections.... Big mistake! I should have asked my parents to look over the pastry displays and select what they wanted first, before ordering. Embarrassingly, after about 3 long minutes of them walking back & forth viewing each of the pastry displays, the cashier received our picks and then she was able to finalized the payment. Fresh desserts for a reasonable price. (btw, there is no special discount if you order large quantities of an item). The coffee brew was strong the way I like it, but way too strong for my parents. I had to ask our server to dilute it by adding 50% more hot water to their cups. Friendly service. No Wi-Fi. I will definitely come back to pick up other desserts and try their hot sandwiches.

Not very visbile from Main Street, but located on behind one of the local pubs. The location is an average size (15-20 people seating) and the order counter and it looks like it is a pretty new location. I have heard of other Melt Grilled Cheese locations but this is the first I have seen. The food: What can I say..its a grilled cheese. Add 2 pieces of toasted buttered bread, cheese and various toppings and suddenly its almost 10 bucks for a sandwich (tax in) . I ordered the Tattooed chicken (supposedly the most popular item) Chicken, cheese, bacon, herbed tomato and mayo. I had a choice of grilled chicken and crispy. I chose crispy and what I got was 2 chicken fingers in my sandwich. If I go back the grilled option is what I am leaning towards. They do have other options on the menu, such as deep frled mac and cheese and poutine. I did try the poutine..which was an option in my combo meal ($3.49 extra) the taste was average. They did have free refills for fountain drinks and they also had free dipping sauces in a variety of flavors. I recommend the garlic mayo and chipotle. Melt Grilled Cheese was alright....if your really craving a grilled cheese sandwich, then this might fill your need.

When I opened the door, the place was completely empty, maybe because it was on Sunday afternoon. They offers free WIFI, and unlimited refill soft drink fountain, so if you don't want to hangout at a coffee shop, this can be an alternative quiet place. On their menu, they have over 10 different kind of grilled cheese with different combination of breads. Since I don't know what to get, so the guy recommended me their best seller, Tattooed Chicken. It contains bacon bits, herbed tomato, mayo, cheese, and chicken. You have an option to get crispy or grilled chicken. Again, the staff recommended me crispy. Am I wrong listening to him. The piece of chicken was not a real chicken. It was just a thin slice of processed chicken which felt like a compressed sponge. I was a little disappointing even though it tasted alright overall. If I got the grilled chicken instead that could be a different story. Anyway, that's only one item on the menu. I am sure there are better items. They also offer different kind of poutines as well. If you are a big fan of grilled cheese, it is worth to give them a second chance :)

The bread was nicely pressed, as well as being fresh and tasty. It was large enough to keep me filled however, I did decide to try my son's grilled cheese, and loved it just the same. The restaurant itself was quite small however, it was cozy. We were able to see the sandwiches being prepared from where we were sitting, along with the outside parking lot. The place was clean however, very basic decor, which made it seem more like a cafeteria instead of a restaurant. Service was excellent; was given the sandwiches pretty quickly, and with a smile. The owners were making the sandwiches themselves, which gave us a warm feeling about the love and care that was put into this place. There were definitely a lot of great items on this menu, which would bring me back to try sometime in the future.

We ordered two of the korean philly cheese steak burgers, a new addition. We didn't get either; it wasn't an issue on our uber drivers side, he gave us the one package that HE was given, but the store workers didn't give us the burgers that we paid for.
