    Amazing tea drawer!

We could not have had a better stay at any other inn than we had at Mad River Inn. I'm not typically a fan of B&Bs and especially not of communal breakfasts, but this inn felt very comfortable. Our stay overlapped with pleasant guests we enjoyed meeting during both of our breakfasts. The house is just what you would hope for in an old Vermont Inn. Amenities are modern while the style is antique without feeling worn out. We felt very comfortable and right at home. Brandon and Susannah are extremely accommodating hosts who are friendly and personable. The food is delicious. Bed is comfortable. Location is within an easy drive of Mad River, Sugarbush, Stowe, Waterbury, etc. My favorite amenity is the tea drawer! It was great to have hot water and tea options any time of day. If the opportunity arises again, we will be back.

I booked this space at the last minute and was lucky to get a room for me and my two children for thanksgiving. The owners, Suzannah and Brandon were both kind and patient with us and our twin seven year olds. The thanksgiving dinner was nothing short of fantastic!! The turkey was moist and flavorful! The owner's seeing that we did not have plans invited us to their family's meal witch was very kind. The breakfast the next day was bountiful and plenty as well. My children, which are picky and a handful, ate loads. Our room was both comfy and charming. After speaking to the owners I was surprised to find out that they just assumed ownership of the inn two months earlier and were just coming up to speed on the mechanics of running the place. All in all we found the place both charming and delightful to stay at.

This was our first time staying at the Mad River Inn. We would definitely stay here again. The new owners, Brandon & Susanna, are wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome and at home. They've made many improvements to the inn and have more planned. Brandon was working on the new fire pit when we stayed. It should be finished by the end of June 2022. We stayed in the Champlain Room. The bed was super comfy. The bathroom had recently been remodeled and was beautifully done. Loved the subway & penny tile in the shower. The breakfasts were delicious with fresh fruit, juice, coffee and eggs or pancakes. We were really spoiled by the afternoon cookies. Susanna even made gluten free cookies for us! We enjoyed the hot tub on the back porch. And put the pool table downstairs to good use. Brandon & Susanna had lots of excellent recommendations of places to see, hike & dine. We also did a day ride at the Icelandic Horse Farm. Highly recommend the Mad River Inn

At the very least, you'll have a very comfortable stay. Greg and Willie will go above and beyond to make sure your overall visit to Vermont is worthwhile. We decided to travel to Vermont last minute for New Year's Eve. We booked the Moose Meadow Lodge on the drive up. We were welcomed with open arms. Greg showed us around the property, the lobby shop, brought us to our room and explained all the unique and exciting details of the house and property. We woke up each morning to a beautifully prepared breakfast. Since our trip was so last minute, we didn't have much of a plan. Greg was kind enough to sit down with us and help us map out our entire journey. He even helped us map an alternate route home that was more scenic. We didn't get to everything on the list, but everything he mentioned was perfect. You can tell he has a genuine love and passion for what he does. His advice and planning alone made the experience excellent. I can go on and on about the perfect stay we had. You can tell Greg and Willie are very passionate about what they do. With a full bar, vast wine and beer list featuring local selections, and a variety of non-alcoholic beverage options, there is something for everyone. Our meal began with a flavor packed broth soup, featuring lemon, parsley, chicken and rice. The hearty portion was perfect for 3 to share. Next came the salads: baby greens with pickled onions and homemade vinaigrette, and rubbed kale with cranberries and nuts. Delicious! The swordfish main is crafted with an amazing balance of sweet blueberry sauce and a touch of cayenne to make the flavors pop. The chicken dish featured a tasty glaze and features grilled lemon, a surprise twist. Both mains were served with a veggie side and atop smashed potatoes- creamy and flavorful, and with lots of texture. Dinner was capped by the featured dessert, blueberry lemon panna cotta. So smooth, creamy, and heavenly! Just the right amount of citrusy syrup to complement the richness. Gather features fresh and local ingredients. This family owned and run restaurant is one of many endeavors Lisa and Jonathan Burr have successfully fully created. You will not be disappointed with your Gather dining experience!

I was completely shocked to see some negative reviews, and felt compelled to share my own experience... My husband and I met with Peter after finding the Skinner Barn online. We live in MA and drove up to meet with Peter and check out the barn. It was the first venue we looked at, and we were completely sold on the absolutely stunning, picturesque barn... But also on Peter. He was very kind, and he was happy to provide us with a great deal of information on not only his venue, but anything and everything we asked about. He very clearly has a system. If you run a decent business- you better have a system to keep it running that way. Cars are to be parked in a certain area. He guides the guests to where they need to go. He is around for the whole night making sure that everything is running smoothly. The music can not be excessively loud- he has neighbors. Yes it's your day, ladies, but we can all still be considerate of others don't you think? Anyway, there was absolutely nothing wrong with Peter or his attitude. My makeup artist actually told me that I was the most stress free bride she had ever seen. Mostly because my view was that getting married trumps all of the details. Every single one of them... but I'm sure that Peter being so kind, caring, and accommodating had a little bit to do with that as well. Excuse the novel I've got going here, but it is very upsetting to me to see people say anything negative about this very nice man and his gorgeous venue. My husband and I loved it so much that we are planning to renew our vows at the Skinner Barn on our 10th anniversary. I suggest you check out the Peter and Skinner Barn for yourself before hopping to any false conclusions.

I should start by saying my family had a wonderful time and a beautiful wedding at the barn. The setting and the interior are great, perfectly rustic, and we could not be more thrilled with the outcome. Most importantly, the bride loved it. However, the interactions with the owner, Peter, were inconsistent in their messaging from day one, and ended very poorly. Peter is a former actor who moved to VT and bought the barn where he hosts performances in addition to weddings. Being an actor, he is adept at turning on the charm and selling you up front as he did my sister-in-law. However when it comes to the week and day of the wedding he shows a different side: 1) Springing hidden, not previously mentioned costs at the last minute when its impossible to back out. $75 PER HOUR to set up and rehearse. Why not charge a flat fee and put it in the contract? 2) Walking around micro-managing various aspects of the wedding day, including being rude to guests who don't follow his meticulous parking instructions. 3) The topper: at the end of the night with the wedding party understandibly looped and on a high, demanding that we BREAK DOWN THE ENTIRE venue THAT NIGHT (we did a lot of the wedding ourselves). This was at 10pm at night! Unbelieveable because Peter had agreed up front (verbally) to let us come back the day after to pick up our items such as tablecloths, a photobooth, table settings, etc. He also said several times "well it's in the contract" (news to us) and showed zero empathy when we reasonably explained we were in no state to do so, had not been informed of this UNTIL THAT MINUTE, and would be back tomorrow to pick up our things. It was thankfully a minor blemish on a wonderful night. But it left a terrible taste in our mouths. The next day when we returned to gather our things, Peter had left them outside the locked barn, and would not even cross the street from his house to speak to us. Maybe he was practicing a new role: bi-polar asshole. If so, well done Peter, we think you nailed it.

This is not only due to the Vermont beauty and magic of the place; it also due to the property owner, Jordan Von Trapp. From the minute we met Jordan, her warmth, enthusiasm, and experience was clear. Throughout the wedding planning process, she could not have been more helpful, or made us feel more assured or excited about our wedding day. Any challenge we encountered in the process (none with her), she helped us sort out instantly, and her creativity knows no bounds. She is always fair and client-centered in her decision making, never pushy, and always personable. And her attention to details is astounding; for instance, when we first met and were talking flowers, I told her casually that I wanted to get tulips for the ceremony to honor a loved one who had passed. Months later, unprompted, she told me that she saw tulips at the grocery store during the month we were going to be married, to let me know they were seasonal. Planning a wedding is tough, but not when you have Jordan on your team; I can't stress enough how important having such an experienced venue owner/wedding coordinator all rolled into one has been for us, because unexpected things (COVID!), do happen along the way. She also knows everyone in the biz, and will give you the honest inside scoop. Her excellence is to the point that every single person I spoke with during the planning process was singing her praises, to an extent that it was almost annoying: it was so frequent and so gushing, and nothing new...I know how great she is, as does everybody else (LOL). It is also noteworthy that this is my first yelp review ever. Can't say enough wonderful things about her and about this place!!!

We spent more than a year planning our August wedding and communicating with the Bed & Breakfast owners our specific schedule, needs for lodging and duration. When it came time to make our payments they were takers, when our guests began arriving and our planned events began unfolding they were not at all the hosts they advertise. Frankie and Pierre were had not prepared, the spaces were not what they advertised or agreed to provided. Our guests' repeated requests for minimal supplies such as towels, sets of clean/usable dish ware, basic kitchen appliance and in working order, locking room doors were met with either hostility, ignoring or passive aggressive behaviors such as grunting and barging into private rented rooms more than once, and personal kitchen use during one of our contracted events. The lodging in all buildings smelled of mold, and the rugs, blankets were covered in pet hair. The main lodge refrigerator was broken, and guests found two drawers full of ice. No one in our party was notified of the broken main appliance. The Lodge kitchen - one of the two we contracted to rent - had overflowing garbage with maggots when we arrived to use it and so much clutter our caterers could not put their feet under the counters to work. The electrical outlets and lighting did not work consistently in the dining hall and we had to rig up extension cords. We have repeatedly requested a refund to cover our costs to guests, explaining the problems in detail at the time and as a follow up. Millstone Hills' response has been to blame us, deny expectations in our contract and ignore all contact. We received a $148.00 check for "overages" which we never incurred in response to our request for $700.00 to reimburse our guests. I could list more issues. I do not recommend Millstone Hill under the current ownership and management to future guests, at all.

The food was suburb! Lots of farm to table meals, and home cooked baked goods too. The staff went above and beyond creating plates just for me, a vegan, and for our girlfriend who is gluten free. I was treated to specially made vegan enchiladas for Cinco de Mayo, incredible tofu masala, tasty shashuka without the egg, Vermont maple soaked oats, and a memorable pineapple coconut rice pudding. Margaritas and Old Fashions were great, and the Heady Topper was free-flowing! Oh yessss! I loved fact that they use local fan favorite Fox Hollow Apple Cider too! Go for the cran-apple juice! Yum! The wedding was absolutely stunning! The ceremony was on the grass under the pretty arbor. The cocktail hour was on the terrace with passed hors d'oeuvrs, and the reception was in the round barn. Just gorgeous! The coordinator was on top of everything! I mean everything! Rehearsal, to hand-lettering, to fixing the bride's gown. Awesome job! The rooms were so lovely and each had their own personality. Some has a jacuzzi tub, all showers included a seat, which we love, and each room had a fireplace. I couldn't help but imagine how super romantic it would be laying in bed with that fireplace blaring on ones of those frigid, but beautiful snow-filled Vermont nights. Made me want to return late fall and around the holidays! The beds were super comfortable and our bed in "Dana" was a four post elevated, which required stairs. Loved it! We also had lovely views of The Green Mountains from our bed and there was a vaulted ceiling and a loft too. Wine glasses left for us also. We were very happy with Dana as our choice for rooms. No detail was overlooked here. I loved the black embroidered makeup towel for the ladies to use for face washing. The lovely toiletries were nice also. The warming tray for their hand made ceramic mugs...nice touch! The dining area was cozy, as was the game room where we enjoyed games of checkers and diving into one of the many books in the library. The staff were all wonderful and overly accommodating in every way possible. Check in was simple. Checking out even easier. We felt so safe and at home here we didn't even lock our room or use our key. The area is fantastic! It's right near Sugarbush for some skiing. There was even some snow left on the mountain early May! Warren Falls and National Green Mountain Forest is just down the road where the hiking is great, and the moose crossing signs are out! Warren Falls is great for families and has a swimming hole. Moss Glenn just a bit farther is a super impressive waterfall. Woodstock/Queeche, my favorite town in Vermont is just a half hour away and Stowe is about 40 minutes. Lots to do in both! I would absolutely come here again! Everything was pure bliss. The only mishaps which I should mention, but it didn't personally bother me one bit was that the power went out during a pretty bad storm. The rain pounding on that old roof so loudly and passionately....I thought it was super romantic! The staff was very well prepared with lanterns and flashlights, which actually makes me feel this isn't their first rodeo. Just a heads up. Highly, highly recommend for first timers to Vermont, for an iconic New England experience. It's equally as great for old pros who love the outdoors and need to reconnect with nature and/or one another, and for brides! It's definitely not cheap, but if definitely shows. It's a unique and special venue. Perfection.
