It was a little tough to find. I went by GPS and the address took me to the house that's actually in front of the building you need to go to. So if you make a left right before the house you'll see a long driveway and parking and the building sits to your right. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and we removed our shoes and headed upstairs to the studio. It was beautiful with mats and, blocks, and pillows set up neatly around. There was soft relaxing music playing and the lighting was natural. Audrey explained to us what we would be doing and was very helpful with each pose (sorry if my terminology is not correct). She also came around and rubbed our necks, heads, or backs, and helped to correct our positions or make them work better for us if we were awkward, which for some, I was. She also used some peppermint oils which I just loved. She also had some of those big bowls that you make music with that she would use a long with the music playing. Very cool. At the end of this hour I was surprised how fast it went and how I really was able to relax and I was already looking for more. It was a very very great experience. When we went to leave she did give us cards for a free session which I definitely plan to try. I saw that they also do camps there for kids and outside stuff too. Who would have thought this all existed back behind Linglestown road? Glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave this a try. You should too.

One of my 2026 birth month self-care challenges was to find a class or workshop somewhere local…read morewhere I could learn to do something new. I didn't have a specific skill in mind -- I was just open to whatever caught my eye and sounded interesting (and reasonably priced). It didn't take long before Horizons Creative Studio popped up in my search results with a Gypsy Bell Workshop scheduled for a mid-March Friday evening at 6pm. According to the workshop description, gypsy bells can be used for protection, energy clearing, spiritual communication, and decoration. The sound of the bells is believed to create a protective barrier and dispel negative influences. I'm not saying I definitely need magical bells to ward off negativity in my life...but I'm also not *not* saying that. The workshop was led by April of Illuminated Soul and promised a hands-on experience using ribbons, beads, charms, metal bells, and colorful sari fabrics to create decorative bell charms that could be used as décor or gifted as a keepsake. The class fee was $35 and included all materials, which felt very reasonable for a guided workshop. Booking online was quick and easy, and I really appreciated the confirmation and reminder emails leading up to the class. The whole process -- registration, payment, and reminders -- was smooth and well organized, which always earns extra points in my book. The studio is located in Lemoyne in a strip mall with plenty of parking, which was a pleasant surprise. I've driven past it many times and somehow never realized it was there or what they offered. I arrived a few minutes before the 6pm start time and was greeted right away when I walked in. After checking my name off the class roster, I was directed to the classroom space in the back of the shop. The workshop itself was small -- just me and four other participants plus the facilitator -- which made it feel relaxed and welcoming. April provided all the materials and guided us through the process while letting everyone work at their own pace and style. It was actually really fun to sit down and do something creative with my hands for a few hours, choosing ribbons, beads, charms, and bells to create a completely custom set. And honestly? It turned out to be the perfect solo self-care Friday night activity. Creative, low-pressure, and a nice break from staring at screens all day. I left with a set of gypsy bells that now hang in my space looking adorable and (hopefully) working overtime to keep negative energy away. At the very least, they're a really fun reminder that trying new things can be a great way to take care of yourself. Before leaving, I grabbed a class schedule because I'm definitely interested in coming back to try more of the workshops Horizons Creative Studio offers.

You can't just drop in for a can of varnish unless you have cash in your pocket. For someone who does not carry cash, it just isn't worth the hassle when I can go to a big box art store like Michaels and put the same can of varnish on my visa. I'd like to support small businesses, but they need to make themselves available. That said, if you need a framing job quickly, they are the place to go. With the big art stores outsourcing everything including custom mats and Framer's Workshop gone from the east shore, this is the only place in Harrisburg where you can go and expect to get something custom made within a few days. The quality and selection are great.
