We recently ordered takeouts and were more than impressed. In fact, we were rather angry that we hadn't been sooner - after all, it's only 5mins down the road. Shame on us! It's hard to choose, but our favourite dish was the Kapitan chicken. It was beautifully cooked in a well-balanced, aromatic sauce and served with light fluffy rice. Our only complaint was that there was enough to sauce to mop up with the buttery roti! Special mention must also be made of the Mee Goreng, which was packed full of flavour and had just the right amount of heat. I added a liberal squeeze of lemon to mine and it was seriously good. For $13, the portion was extremely generous - we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. I am rather looking forward to my next visit. Hopefully we will be dining in because the interior of this place is delightful - full of brightly coloured decorations with plenty of sparkles!

Pork slices with vegetables and cooked with cumin, fresh chilli and other spices that make you feel like you're going to breathe fire. Nasi lemak is purple fragrant coconut rice which I adore but if you're more inclined to classic, they have plain steamed rice as well. The first time I ever tried a laksa was from Kampung as well, and I can't believe I'm about to rave about food court laksa but I've had laksa since then and nothing has really measured up. Pretty good for a food court! While I can't say this is always my first choice when hitting Ponsonby Food Court up, it is a favourite.

We had to stop to try the Lobak and Otak Otak - both not too common here in NZ but making a showing amongst a few of the Malaysian restaurants here. The Lobak was great with a soft juicy filling and a light and crispy skin. The Otak Otak was firm and with lots of fish. Not as soft as I would have liked but good all the same. The space is tiny and always rammed- I wish they could take over the neighbouring shop but c'est la vie. We often have visitors over and order takeout and it's been a hit so far. I believe they offer the best 'Beef Rendang' in Auckland, it's a bold claim but I'll stand by it. The beef is so tender. The 'Oat Flavoured King Prawns'- sweet cereal crunches over juicy prawns. The homemade 'Malaysia Style Deep Fried Tofu'- big fluffy cubes of rich tofu. The 'Fried Keuy Teow' noodles and the 'Coffee Spare Ribs', pork chops coated in coffee and possibly sweetened condensed milk, don't overthink it, the dish is amazing. Also does a solid laksa. Only duds we've ever ordered have been the 'Salt and Pepper Squid' otherwise Chef Rasa is a real find.
