    Sticky pork hawker roll
    Alex D.

After a much anticipated wait, Madam Woo has opened it's doors in Takapuna! Having dined at their Queenstown location I had high expectations, which were happily met. The hawker roll was just how I remembered - flakey, buttery roti filled with fresh herbs, chilli and succulent, sticky pork (there's other flavours too). The tiger prawn dumplings were tightly packed with a generous amount of perfectly cooked prawn meat but the standout was the duck and cabbage salad with roasted hazelnuts and a zesty lime dressing. It's $18 but the serving is generous, perfect for sharing. Madam Woo has just opened so as it to be expected there are still a few minor wrinkles in the service need ironing out. For example, after the mains our table and the table next door took an eternity to be cleared. I had let the waiter know at the beginning of the service that my dining companion needed to catch a flight and we wanted to order a Vietnamese coffee to finish but the waiter, or any waiter for the matter, was nowhere to be seen! I should point out here that it was also a quiet Monday lunch, not a raging Friday night. The only other small glitch was that glasses that the Vietnamese coffee comes in are to hot to handle on arrival. My companion and I ended up unfolding our napkins and wrapping them around them, which totally worked but would be great to either have a word of warning or a pre-rolled napkin scenario. As I said, minor, minor issues that I am sure will be sorted out over time. Considering how they've just opened and how busy they've been, they are absolutely nailing it in my book! One last thing... this venue is much bigger than their Queenstown locations with plenty of big, long tables so if you're looking for a restaurant to dine at with a group this would be perfect - just make sure you book!

A Little disappointed by the restaurant as I thought it would have been authentic Malaysian and Chinese food, but it was more of a fusion Asian. But never the less the food was quite good! A little pricey for the quantity. We didn't get that great service and I felt as if we were being ignored a lot. Throughly enjoyed the restaurant theme and deco was nice :) would come again

Delicious food, awesome service and loved the ambiance. 10/10 would recommend for a chill lunch/dinner place to go to.

We recently ordered takeouts and were more than impressed. In fact, we were rather angry that we hadn't been sooner - after all, it's only 5mins down the road. Shame on us! It's hard to choose, but our favourite dish was the Kapitan chicken. It was beautifully cooked in a well-balanced, aromatic sauce and served with light fluffy rice. Our only complaint was that there was enough to sauce to mop up with the buttery roti! Special mention must also be made of the Mee Goreng, which was packed full of flavour and had just the right amount of heat. I added a liberal squeeze of lemon to mine and it was seriously good. For $13, the portion was extremely generous - we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. I am rather looking forward to my next visit. Hopefully we will be dining in because the interior of this place is delightful - full of brightly coloured decorations with plenty of sparkles!

It really feels like you're in Malaysia though I've never been, but at least transported to somewhere different. It's warm and the dim lighting creates an intimate, cosy atmosphere. Great service as well. The Kung-po squid came in a long fish dish with vegetables, dried chilli and sauteed squid. Great for seafood lovers. We got the Langkawi fish special which was nice and fresh with lemon, lemon grass and coriander. Beware of the Hot Babi Pedas, as I thought I had a high tolerance for spicy but this was still Hot with a capital H. Pork slices with vegetables and cooked with cumin, fresh chilli and other spices that make you feel like you're going to breathe fire. Nasi lemak is purple fragrant coconut rice which I adore but if you're more inclined to classic, they have plain steamed rice as well. Great order on the side of the curry as well as their flaky Chanai flatbread. Food is yum, decor is absolutely wonderful. Must see

I recommend the char kuey teow as it has a good price to it, and has a good handful of noodles and chicken (I normally order chicken for this dish) each time you order and the chicken laksa for spicy beginners, as it isn't hot to taste the soup and the noodle is yummy with bits of chicken :9 The atmosphere of the foodcourt could be better, especially the bathroom but otherwise the bathroom situation there are many seats to choose from. I like the seats outside when it is sunny, where you can overview the stretch of the Ponsonby street the foodcourt is at be separated from other costumers, like a getaway. But the inside is also quite chill as you have seat and wait for your meal.

First up, I love the roti here. Sometimes roti can be just as bready and thick and crap as a bad naan, but the roti at Kampung is much more pastry-like - brittle and crumbly and yum yum yum. The first time I ever tried a laksa was from Kampung as well, and I can't believe I'm about to rave about food court laksa but I've had laksa since then and nothing has really measured up. Pretty good for a food court! While I can't say this is always my first choice when hitting Ponsonby Food Court up, it is a favourite.

So it was great to find this place open right where we were staying in Birkenhead! We had been here before and this time we brought cash. The food here is good and homemade authentic. Order a few dishes to share or try their noodle or rice plates. This time we ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice and Spicy Prawn Noodle soup. Yum! Definitely not disappointing. The place is somewhat of a hole in the wall but the service is good and the atmosphere somewhat homey. It is small; seating just 7 tables - one large round and the rest smaller 2-4 seats per table. Today it was totally crowded. Worth the wait or just order take out!

The space is tiny and always rammed- I wish they could take over the neighbouring shop but c'est la vie. We often have visitors over and order takeout and it's been a hit so far. I believe they offer the best 'Beef Rendang' in Auckland, it's a bold claim but I'll stand by it. The beef is so tender. The 'Oat Flavoured King Prawns'- sweet cereal crunches over juicy prawns. The homemade 'Malaysia Style Deep Fried Tofu'- big fluffy cubes of rich tofu. The 'Fried Keuy Teow' noodles and the 'Coffee Spare Ribs', pork chops coated in coffee and possibly sweetened condensed milk, don't overthink it, the dish is amazing. Also does a solid laksa. Only duds we've ever ordered have been the 'Salt and Pepper Squid' otherwise Chef Rasa is a real find.
