It took me a while to choose from the array of savoury and sweet fillings, eventually I went for banana and peanut butter, convincing myself that there was some nutritional value in that combo :) It turned out to be tasting and filling, though almost impossible to eat with any kind of table manners. On the day they were having a few issues with the gas supply, so there was a short delay in ordering/service. From what I could see, without that issue it would have been a well-organised and efficient operation.

say pancake to me and its a noooooo! but call it a galette and i'm happy as larry! not a fan of the sweet pancake options life has to offer, but i'll take all of the ham, cheese and eggs you can offer me. (its also the buckwheat flour that i prefer in a galette) Mademe Francoise's galettes were superb and delightful as the ones i had in france! get to Altrincham market and try one for yourself!

    Prep!

We found this city centre creperie by accident, not design, in the hunt for a good savoury lunch…read more The menu looked perfect and all three of us agreed instantly to go in. It's been a heck of a long time since we were last in Chester. In fact, there was no such place as Starbucks or Costa and a Frappuccino wasn't even in the language it's that far back. Starbucks, a second wave coffee provider, was only venturing into Canada when we were last there. Creperies too were places you'd find only in Brittany and Normandy. The great British public would have eschewed, nay nay, pooh - poohed the very thought way back when. But all change; doncha just love it that the only constant is change? Having enjoyed many a good savoury and sweet crepe - doesn't everybody enjoy a good crepe? - in Brittany and Normandy with calvados and crisp, light, sweet cidré we knew done right it would be tasty. So I had the crisp bacon & maple syrup crepe (just over £5) and being moi (well we must nod to the French) I had only one question. Is it maple syrup or that artificial flavoured sugar rubbish pretending to be maple syrup. The reply was instant and welcome: the real Mc Coy. Great. I did have a moment of weakness mind as there was a goat cheese choice but I stuck with bacon. My companions chose an all day breakfast crepe and a Mexican chicken crepe respectively (just over £7 each). We all had cappuccinos (large at under £3 each) and Welsh sparkling water (£1.8), none of yer Perrier or Badoit here, just right too. The service was darn good. The food was tasty, light and perfect - ooh la la - as our French cousins might say. The coffee was alright and more third wave but I'd prefer a much more punchy coffee, but disappointment aside I'll leave it five star for the great service and tasty food. It might even take us back to Chester one day, but I did notice a divine looking (and smelling) Yorkshire pudding sandwich shop, so it might be there next time - now you certainly won't find one of those in Normandy or Brittany, vive la difference.

I'm extremely glad this place opened up in Harrogate. The ladies behind the counter are extremely nice, decked out in their french striped shirts and kerchiefs. My crepe was realllllly good! They have both savory & sweet crepes to try from (as well as various baked goods, ice cream, milkshakes and coffee/tea). Lots of toppings to choose from and various ways they will make a crepe for you. If I had to make any suggestions, it would be to only clean up (maybe 'polish' is the better word?) the inside appearance: turn the glasses over so dust doesn't settle inside, have containers set up along the inside of the display case to show ingredients available to choose from but not ones too big as to cover up the crepe making stations b/c it's interesting to watch, and laminate the menus once they're set. Just a few minor adjustments would have it looking professional but still unique! The folks who worked there are great too: didn't mind talking to us yanks about the shop while we sat there and watched crepe making in action. I'll be paying them a visit again soon!

I've had the savoury crepes. They are really nice, full of fresh ingredients and flavour. Along with the excellent coffee, this makes for an ideal lunch, far healthier than many of the other options in Trinity Leeds. On the less healthy side, the deserts look very tasty indeed, and certainly seem to generate a lot of smiles for those receiving them. I have to add, I haven't personally tried them. I'm a savoury rather than sweet person. Crepe Affaire is situated nicely within Trinity, with a glass floor and with a big glass window looking out towards the railway station. One part of the glass floor has a lot of cracks in it, which makes me slightly nervous, so I don't sit near there :) The staff have always been friendly, and I'm sure I will go back many more times.

My sister introduced me to Crepe Affair, and we pop in during shopping trips regularly now. It's in Trinity centre, not as obvious as other food places, but you are drawn in by the wonderful smells. You order at the till, and the staff make the crepe right in front of your eyes (like they do on crepe stalls at markets and stuff- no microwaves in sight!) and you can have sweet (I recommend strawberry and the banana and Nutella- yum!) or savoury, with plenty of vegetarian options. The price is reasonable for a city centre sweet tooth's dream, and the coffees nice too! Check it out next time you're passing! Pros: SO GOOD Lots of fillings, and you see the food made from fresh in front of you Savoury crepes, with plenty for veggies Student discount Cons: Seating always packed when it's busy Occasionally there's only been one person making the food and on the till one order at a time, so service can be slow. But it's worth it ;)

It's taken me over a year to publish this negative review of my dining experience at La Crepe Rit…read more Partially because it's taken me some time to put my experience in words but it's mainly due to the photo that I've uploaded making me gag every time I look at it. This tiny, Parisian themed cafe is situated on the Albert Docks in Liverpool and after hearing my best friend describe their pancakes as "the best in Liverpool" I had to go check out this place for myself. I took an old friend there when she came to visit me and ordered the cheese, tomato and egg crepe but asked to swap the egg for ham whilst my friend opted for steak and chips, which apparently was actually quite edible unlike my meal. The crepe looked pretty impressive when delivered to my table but was one of the blandest meals I've ever eaten in my life with next to no flavour, even with the several toppings I ordered, even adding sauces, salt and pepper to the dish. I haven't eaten crepes since, I really think it's put me off the dish for a long time.

The place looks very classy indeed from the outside and as though it is the kind of place a formal dinner should be had or something for a special occasion. The place proclaims a lot of itself which I suppose is a typical sign of French arrogance which is not a bad thing at all as long as you deliver on the bold promises that are being made. The problem here is that I do not believe this place does deliver to the level it could do. I have eaten at many French restaurants and recently returned from a few days in the wonderful city of Paris and unfortunately this place does not quite measure up. In fact I believe places such as Bistro Franc and Cafe rouge which are slightly less central and expensive both offer a closer experience to that of France itself. This place promises much but unfortunately delivers little.
