I think that their ice cream and other treats are very good, perhaps even excellent, and so I rate it high 3-stars or 4. But for us the downside was the high sugar content: just too rich, too sweet. We both had two-scoop cones and different flavours of ice-cream, but we could hardly finish them over the course of a 30-minute stroll. The ice cream here was well worth the 20 minute wait outside the store! I had 1 scoop split with the flavours of matcha vanilla and oatmeal cookie dough! The matcha vanilla ice cream was your typical green tea ice cream; it was great. The oatmeal cookie dough was a new flavour to me in terms of ice cream. It tasted identical to the dad's oatmeal cookies (I love them) and you were also able to chew on some cookie dough chunks in the ice cream. It was delicious! The portion was quite big compared to other ice cream parlours I've tried and that's not something I'm complaining about :) The 'one scoop' is actually two scoops and thus I was able to split it to two flavours. read more

Oh Made by Marcus, you make my day! I've been here in the evening a few times and the line was super long and the place was packed. It's a small shop on 17th but they have a communal table, table in the window, and small bench seating. The shop is bright and open with super cute decor. They have sundaes, soft serve and regular cones on the menu along with a few different drink options. The waffle cones are so good! When they're making them fresh the smell is intoxicating. I love a good chocolate dip cone and Made by Marcus delivers it was so satisfying. They also have great seasonal sundaes in addition to the regular menu, I tried the Happy Camper sundae and it was so good! Worth it for the marshmallow alone. With the line ups in front of Made by Marcus dying down because of the fall/winter change of season, we were finally able to join a smaller line up that started in the store. This was NOT a common sight in summer and most times we just drove/walked by to opt for dessert elsewhere. We finally got to try it this time. The Happy Camper sundae was great. Their soft serve is quite good and smooth. The torched homemade marshmallow is a nice accent. The portions are generous for regular ice cream as well. Another reallyyy good ice cream joint! House made ice cream and waffle cones- you can see the staff making it through the glass doors in the back. Very unique flavors and great Balance of sweetness and flavor. we got the vanilla matcha and roasted strawberry buttermilk- both really good. Super flavorful and not too sweet, and very generous with the portions (single scoop is more like a double elsewhere). They also offer unique sundaes that look pretty crazy intricate too with macaroons/ cotton candy/ roasted marshmallows. They also give stamp cards - every 7th order free! Rude Employee, My girlfriend and I first went to the Hillhurst location with the intention of getting Mini Egg ice cream which was unfortunately sold out which was not a problem. The next day we called the 17th ave location to try again and they let us know that they still had some in stock and that even though they were out of pints in the freezer, they'd be more than happy to help us out and hand pint for us. Great! So we ended up getting a pint for each of us, and not until after we paid, the male employee working passive-aggressively tells us that they cannot do that again for us next time. NO WHERE does it say there's a limit to how much they can hand pint per customer or anyone between the two days of us trying to get this ice cream says that there's a limit. What if my girlfriend and I just happened to be separate customers? Would you tell the second person that you cant accommodate them? Although the ice cream is good, because of this interaction with this employee we will not be coming back to this location, let alone this ice cream shop for the foreseeable future. This place. Is. AMAZING. I wasn't sure if it would live up to the hype, what with the typical hour long wait, but it did!! I came on a Friday afternoon, luckily got off work early and was there by around 4:40. I think as long as you beat the 5PM rush on a weekday, you can get some icecream with only a 10-15 minute wait. Which is worth it. Their single scoop in reality is a double scoop and you can pick two flavours. Their flavours themselves are so interesting and diverse - I wish I got to try them all! I got the Whisky Hazelnut Praline (basically heaven in icecream) and malted chocolate honeycomb (personally liked hazelnut better but chocolate honeycomb was still yum). GO HERE! This is my favourite ice cream maker in the city - I love their pints and buy them frequently. The microcreamery is very small and there are frequently lines out the door on hot days, but it's definitely worth a visit! I would go here for the soft serve sundaes over the regular scoops (you can purchase pints of almost all the flavours at small grocers). The sundaes are beautiful AND tasty. One star off because even when the store is empty (rarely) it still took almost 10 minutes to get a single sundae; when the store is busy expect wait times over 20 minutes or longer. read more

They're definitely popular during the hot summer months. Not sure how they do in the winter though. They offer a number of creative flavors and different creative sundaes. I tried the happy camper this time with vanilla soft serve, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate and torched marshmallow. The fresh torched marshmallow was a nice touch. The vanilla soft serve was tasty although it was more milky than vanilla. I didn't taste very much vanilla in it. The graham cracker crumbs also tasted quite tame. You'll be getting sick of hearing about my friend, Seano, and all his suggestions of where to eat in Calgary. "Why don't I just look at his reviews instead?" you'll be asking yourself. Well the simple answer to that, is that Seano doesn't write reviews and even if he did, he'd be giving everything 5 stars with his exaggerated views. This weekend we headed over to Made by Marcus which Seano described as "the best ice cream I have ever eaten". I had the espresso ice cream and it was pretty good - I think I would rate it higher then Village ice cream to be honest. Every time I've driven by made by Marcus there has been a long line up out the door and down the street. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a try tonight and when we got there it looked really busy but lucky for us majority of the people there had already ordered so our wait time was very minimal. Friendly staff asked if we wanted any samplers before we got to the register to order. We bought a jar of the London fog, lychee rose raspberry churro sandwich, and a Tahitian vanilla bean churro sandwich. My only regret about going to Marcus is being too full from lunch to enjoy one of their amazing looking sundaes. Instead, to celebrate #NationalIceCreamDay I had a small scoop of Earl Grey Mint in a freshly made crunchy waffle cone. This was not an easy feat as I sampled pretty much all the different concoctions they had (raspberry cardamom, triple vanilla bean, brown butter pecan, etc) before settling on one that combined my two fave ice cream flavours. I saw the long line up last night and I thought I should try this place. So I came this evening. Did not disappoint. I had a scoop of the : passion fruit Thai basil - very tasty. The basil did not over power the passion fruit. Peach cobbler: very good, however it was very sweet that it overpowered the passion fruit ice cream. It's something to maybe have on its own. This is the BEST ice cream in the city. Yes, it even beats out Village ( which holds a high bar to begin with) It takes up the tiny space that used to be a bakery. On top of ice cream and soft serve, they offer a few pastries and Monogram coffee. I love that your single scoop can be split in to two different flavours. We have been following Marcus around the city for the past couple of years stuffing ourselves with his macarons and super creamy ice cream. Marcus is an amazing guy with a great team who produces super tasty treats using local ingredients. It's awesome to see that he opened up his own microcreamery. This shop is open and bright and has some indoor/outdoor seating for you to enjoy your ice cream. Some of my favourites include his raspberry cardamon (i like this a lot better than the Village cardamon ice cream), the seasonal burnt honey rosemary, and seasonal pistachio strawberry. The soft serve is also yummy. Definitely give it a try and buy a couple jars to take home for your friends/family! How have we waited so long? I've purchased the ice cream several times from my fave retailer, Sunterra, but the shop tops store bought "Made by Marcus". A long line up, lack of parking did not deter me. Delicious, fresh and every detail was covered down to the fresh, homemade waffle cone. Made by Marcus is a pretty cool little ice cream shop in downtown Calgary with lots of creative creations to satisfy your palate. I have tried the breakfast of champions and happy camper sundaes and both were pretty tasty. However, I have found the staff here to be unfriendly, and the bathroom is such a mess - really unhygienic. It literally looks like they haven't cleaned the toilet since they opened up shop. While this ice cream shop puts a lot of effort into serving up instagram-worthy desserts, they ignore the small but important details of customer service and cleanliness. I would recommend Village Ice Cream over this ice cream shop. I think Made by Marcus gets too much hype where it is undeserved. I can't see this shop lasting longer than a year or two. read more

Rarely do I stray from my froyo addiction into the guilt ridden waters of ice cream. But when it's this good it's totally worth it! Brought my nieces here and they lit up over the unicorn sundae! They have other great Sunday concoctions too that I may come back to try before I leave. But honestly you will be more than satisfied with their single "more like two scoops!" serving of one of their regular ice cream flavored. I tried the strawberry and it was delicious. The ice cream is pretty good, I am a huge fan of businesses that support other local businesses so that gets an A+ for me. When it comes to the flavour and texture of the ice cream, that is where a star comes off. The ice cream prices are a tad high and honestly, I don't find anything spectacular about the ice-cream. The texture was a tad odd for me as well, I can't quite explain it though. Bottom line, I do not think this place is worth all of the hype, the ice cream isn't bad, but it isn't anything special. Tip: Keep your jars and return them back to get $1 store credit per jar you bring back in. read more
