Dropped by here on a Wednesday night with a few friends and had a great time. The atmosphere is kind of like an American diner, only cooler. The food is tapas style and the portions are quite generous compared to some of the other tapas restaurants I've been to before. Everything I had was pretty tasty and I really have no complaints about Made in Camden at all. I tried the Mojito, which was pretty good. The King Prawns were delicious. The Chickpeas were also fantastic. The Calamari was really good, whatever that sauce is...mmmm. The Girolles were also tasty. My friends got the Venison burger and although I didn't get a chance to try, they said they enjoyed it. Overall, a fantastic restaurant located within the Roundhouse. It's a casual atmosphere and the service is friendly. I hope to be back! read more

Mixed bag. Some great food. Service was absolutely dismal. We ordered 3 dishes, 2 breakfast mains and the other a plate of pancakes. In a place where you have at least 3 staff to wait 10 or so people on 4-5 tables, you shouldn't have to constantly be sticking your arm up like you're in class to get their attention. One guys was absolutely fuming as he had his hand up for about 2 minutes trying to get the staff's attention. The food itself was mixed. The mains like salmon omelette and Baked eggs shakshuka were great. Large portions and quite tasty. The pancakes cost about the same, but were dry with only 5-6 tiny blueberries on the plate. The waiter also forgot to bring the maple syrup that is advertised on the dish, so that's more wait time, in which my pancakes are getting cold. When he does get back, it's the small thimble of maple syrup I've ever seen. Contrast this to the breakfast club that give you unlimited maple syrup in squeeze bottles. All the while my pancakes are getting colder. Service is quite miserable. The decor and atmosphere is pleasant despite the staff. They obviously need to learn that an extended glance means I need something, and forgetting simple things like maple syrup for the pancakes is just not on. When I turned '21 again' a few days ago, I knew the place I wanted to go to celebrate the occasion. Made in Camden is a new bar and restaurant in the famous music venue, The Roundhouse in Chalk Farm. Opened in August 2010, Made in Camden has already made a big impact in the area. Its vision, fronted by head chef Josh Katz, is food influenced by Asian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours and a large selection of 'small plates' designed to be shared. When I arrived, I was greeted by some very friendly staff, who were very accommodating when I asked if I could change to another table. What hits you when you first glance at the menu is the incredible amount of dishes on offer, all sounding very appetising. We opted for the Crisp Sea Bass and the Smoked Wood Pigeon with almond cous cous, both which were very tasty and beautifully presented. They try, wherever possible, to source their ingredients as locally as possible. This is reflected in the drinks list which includes beers from the newly opened Camden Brewery just down the road. I found my whole experience at Made in Camden very inspiring, from the look of the place, to the food and staff who were more than happy to help me pick from the dessert list (I went for the Chocolate Moelleux with Cherry Mousse which was stunning). During July, the Roundhouse gets taken over by the iTunes Festival. so before one of the gigs my friend Ashley V and i thought to have a little nosh right there in the same building - it saves the hassle of rushing around and what not! on a whole it was a bit of a "step forward, 2 steps back," kind of thing. we walked in at 6:45 to an empty restaurant. "so glad i made reservations," Ashley thinks. i raise an eyebrow and look at the crowd of kids outside queuing for the gig and wonder if its the same type of clientele that would go to both. it all started out ok. our waiter promptly said hello and asked if we wanted drinks. but then it took a million years for the drinks to come. they were tasty and went down a treat. We got several small plates that all sounded freaking amazing (fennel with salted caramel, pistachios, and greens. Pulled pork with Green papaya, mango and a tangy sauce. yum) and the first dish came out just fine. and was so delicious. but then we waited for the next. and waited. and then had 2! woot! and then just as we were finishing off one (but there was still bits and sauce (omg dont take my sauce, bitch!!) on the plate) they came and whisked it away! and then finally the last dish came. 3 out of 4 dishes were awesome, with only one meh.... and then dessert. or rather, back to the waiting game. we ordered. and waited. the waiter literally did a double take at our table when 25 min went by and we still didnt have our puddings. finally i called over the manager. we had a chocolate bread and butter pudding and white chocolate cheesecake, both of which were tasty, but very much at room temperature - which leads me to guess what happened to cause such a delay: they were plated and forgotten about. sigh. maybe they were having an off night. i hope so, because the other little dishes were rather awesome. read more

Made In Camden is my first review after a short hiatus involving getting married, among other things. I ate here literally fresh off the plane after a disastrous 13 hour flight, after not getting a booking at St John Bread & Wine, which is probably never the best time for a meal. But the lighting was dim (good when your brain thinks it's 3am, not 8pm) and the restaurant had a pleasant (if very, very empty) atmosphere. The staff were slightly fussy, explaining a little too thoroughly the way the menu worked, as if it was very complicated (not hard, order like tapas, share with table). Our table shared out the ordering and had 6 dishes to share between 4, the staff seemed to think we'd need more, but for us this was a good amount for a light evening meal. If you're hungry you could probably do with a few more plates. The sticky pork belly and the brown crab and cassava croquettes, were the stand out dishes of the evening. Although everything was pretty much incredible and it was all very well flavoured and interesting. The pork belly was beautifully sweet and sticky, served with a Thai papaya salad and the crab croquettes were just INSANE, so creamy I'm surprised their bread-crumbed coating could hold in all that liquid goodness, but it did, and it stayed crispy! The food was all beautifully presented but there was no foam or unnecessary drizzles in sight, so you don't need to worry about that messing up your eatings! Despite the food being amazing and the atmosphere being lovely, I just didn't love it here, it could have been the jetlag, I don't know, but I was torn between 3 and 4 stars and thinking of going for 3, but I just checked out their website and saw they had some recipes put up there! So it's got to be a 4, because restaurants who give out their recipes are amazing. Basically, try it, I think a lot of people will love this place. read more

We dropped in on a Thursday night for some quick food before heading next door to the Roundhouse later in the evening. It was absolutely ideal for this - the food is really tasty and two small plates and a side to share between two of us was plenty to keep us going. Atmosphere is cosy and informal and the service is friendly and quick. Really good drinks menu too. The food is tapas-style... there are around 15 dishes to choose from, each a mini-meal in itself, which you can have as either a small plate or a large plate. Don't be put off by first impressions (the tables and chairs at the front of the restaurant are a bit simple - think cafe! - and there are booths towards the back) - once you're sat down it's actually a good atmosphere. read more

Infinity Brunch Club Outing #8: Made For Isabel's birthday brunch, she decided we should come here. It's fairly inexpensive so we thought we could get a few people in and things would be great. For £27.50 you get unlimited mimosas/Bloody Marys, waffles, pastries, toast, coffee or tea, and you get your choice of a starter. First of all, there were 15 of us, but for some reason, a lot of these places seem to think that they can handle big parties with the same number of servers as they would for smaller parties. Here's a hint: You can't. It took absolutely ages for our first round of drinks to come out, and every time we ordered more, it either took ages, or they forgot, so we had to order a lot more. The same with the "unlimited" bread products. We got some to start, which we devoured. Then we asked for more. And nothing would show up. Or it would show up sporadically. Or not at all. Or we had to ask for more waffles. Again. And Again. And again. And then three would show up for a table of 15. It was just a nightmare. Eventually they were better with the booze, but there were still times we were sitting empty or people would just grab a drink not realizing someone else needed some because they didn't actually keep track of who they were supposed to be bringing things to. And since we kept asking over and over for things, we were never quite sure if it was ours or not. The food was fairly good though. My main was really tasty and went well with the toast. The pastries were warm and flaky. The coffee was nice (in a French press even!), but they did seem to put way too much coffee in. And it wasn't the correct grind as it kept giving me sludge at the bottom of my cup. I can't say I'd go back. I think there are far better places on my list of boozy brunch outings I'd like to return to first. read more

Breakfast at Made In Camden is a little bit like the English football team: it has all the ingredients of greatness but struggles to find the back of the net. You can't fault them for not trying: the ingredients are top-notch, the service is professional, accommodating and friendly and in general it all feels like it should be a bit better than it is. Their coffee comes from Caravan in Exmouth market, which does one of the best breakfasts in London and has some of the best coffee, so it should be good, right? It almost is. Unlike 99% of UK coffee, my flat white was well extracted, not too bitter, and the milk was velvety and smooth. But it was served in a cup you could use to put out a fire, so the milk completely drowned the espresso. My baked eggs featured a really tasty chorizo, some agreeably spicy tomatoes and loads of fresh herbs. They just weren't all that baked. Another three minutes in the oven and they'd have been perfect. My girlfriend's smoothy was generous with the fresh fruit, but even more generous with the yoghurt. It felt like drinking a quart of onken. Her coconut pancakes were good, but unspectacular. If it's not quite up to the standard of Lantana or Caravan, it only needs a few tweaks to get there. And unlike those two it takes bookings, which means no waiting outside for 40 minutes for a table. If you are desperate for an overpriced drink offered with poor service...Then this place is for you. The options for alcohol are limited. I asked for a dirty vodka martini and you would have thought that I asked for tea service with the queen. I got the drink, which was pretty good, hence the two stars. But look forward to never drinking here again. read more

Made in Camden is a star. It was the perfect combination between fancy and casual. If you like NOPI but want a more chilled-out vibe, location and prices with less hype this is the place to go. The place has small plates -- but they're really not small and our waiter was kind enough to make sure that while we did order more food than we could eat we were only off by a few bites not a few plates. Here, it's all about fresh food in striking combinations. That's why you come here. We started with a dish that combined fennel, feta, pistachio, and caramel. The fennel was cooked through perfectly so that it was sweet and delicious. Our favourite main dish was the steak -- excellently cooked and complemented the flavours in the contrasting veggies and sauces. The St. Emilion was an outstanding glass of wine -- highly recommended. We were stuffed Gluten-free notes: Most of the dishes are naturally gluten-free. They didn't think gluten-free was a problem at all and were very familiar with the concept. They were happy to adjust one dish to make it ok. read more

I've been here for coffee, not for food, so my review is limited. Mostly empty on a weekday morning, my friend and I were able to snag a comfortable booth. The bar staff were very nice and the Americano was good, but not amazing. I liked the quiet atmosphere -- perfect for catching up with a friend or getting some work done. Around noon, a large school group came in and the mood was broken, but I would still recommend this cafe for a nice morning coffee. read more

There are probably a lot of options for where to grab dinner before a concert at Roundhouse, but the venue's own restaurant is quite a solid choice. All dishes were reasonably priced between £5-8 and reasonably sized. Four split between two people was enough for us. Everything sounded both creative and delicious, so the hardest part was choosing! We had the sweet potato, crab cakes, Momofuku pork bun, and sweet and sour brisket. Dessert was the peanut parfait. Everything was extremely flavorful and delightful. And all accompanied by the Camden Brewery lager... I was very happy with the whole experience. Tangent: I was particularly intrigued to try the Momofuku pork bun to compare against the New York original which I love love love. You notice right off the bat that the bun is different. Not as perfect, white, and soft. I don't know where Momofuku sources their pork, but it is divine and Made in Camden's can't compare in quality. Still, it was a nice try and good bun in its own right. I'll be waiting for the day that David Chang sets his sights on London though. read more

I had lunch here yesterday and really enjoyed it. Roughly a month old and in place of an infrequently open cafe, Made in Camden is the onsite restaurant at the Roundhouse. But I'd confidently recommend it whether you're going to a show at the Roundhouse or not. In fact, it was explained to me that pre and post performances the dining area and bar can be quite packed but the rest of the time it's pretty mellow. So, maybe it's best to go for lunch or during an off night. Dining with a couple of other foodies, we enjoyed a starter of baked eggs, spicy tomato, greek yoghurt and sourdough with grilled chorizo. I reckon it'd work well as a brilliant and substantial main for one too and would strongly consider ordering it again if I manage to get back there. Seared onglet steak sandwich with horseradish cream and balsamic red onion yummy too and really filling. Coffee at MiC is roasted at Caravan on Exmouth Market, and is top quality. If indeed, the vibe is mellow during the day, MiC would be a swell place to pop in for a coffee. Quick and friendly service and a pleasantly casual atmo add to the reasons I'd be happy to suggest this restaurant to friends that live in or frequent the Camden/Chalk Farm area. read more

Made in Camden is a great addition to the facilities on offer at the wonderful concert and theatre venue, the Roundhouse. We enjoyed a tasty early supper here last Wednesday before watching an excellent production of King Lear. If you are eating pre-theatre I would say that booking is essential and I would advise you to turn up as early as possible. When I rocked in at 5.30 there were a couple of other, very elderly, people in the restaurant. I ordered a pint of the fine Meantime Pale Ale which I was enjoying when B arrived at 5.45. By this time the room was filling up fast so we quickly got our order in to avoid being stuck in the "log jam" getting the orders in and out. By 6.15 the place was heaving with every table and seat at the bar taken. The large number of hopeful walk in punters looked dismayed as they were turned away. Very sensibly given the need to get through so many covers in such a short space of time, the performance started at 7.15, the normal dinner menu is not on offer until after the theatre going hordes have departed. What you get is a very cut down offering from the main menu, consisting of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts at £16.95 for 2 courses or £19.95 for 3 courses. We started off by sharing a starter of the chicken liver parfait with plum relish and a toasted rye croute. Beautifully presented and well executed this was a lovely dish to kick off the meal and was just great for sharing. We both had the grey mullet with peperonata and Lyonnaise potato as the main which was pretty tasty but it was only just lukewarm and the potato was overcooked and had a slight grey tinge to it which was a bit off putting. We finished by sharing a portion of the lemon panna cotta with a rhubarb puree which had a lovely creamy consistency with a nice sharp bite to follow. By now the clock was counting down so we had no time for coffee and after managing to flag down one of the increasingly harassed looking waiting staff we got the bill, took it to the bar and found someone to pay. We then made our way upstairs to order our interval refreshments and take our seats, just in time for the start of the play. Given the numbers they had to deal with I'd say the team here did a pretty good job. On this visit the main course was a slight let down but this would not stop me returning in future to try out the normal dinner menu which looked very tasty. I have no doubt that the standard of cooking would be up to scratch if you visited outside of the "rush hour". All in all a really good way to kick off a night at the theatre. read more

Hmm. It was just meh. Popped in for coffee & cake. No table service forthcoming & when I went to order they guy didn't even offer to bring the coffees to the table. If there's nothing on at The Roundhouse, it can be a bit quiet but that just means more space and a kitchen ready to serve up some amazing delights. You will not even believe the prices they charge for the quality of food that you get here. You can eat very well for less than £20. I always over order because everything is yummy and I leave totally stuffed. The plates are good for sharing but if you decide not to share, your dinner guest will forgive you as they tuck into their own plate. Sardines - Amazing. Crab Croquettes - Sublime. Crispy seabass - I weep. Save room for dessert and try a cocktail or 2 from Steven, the barman you wont be disappointed. Worth the trip. read more

We had a dinner here before a gig at the Roundhouse, which was very convenient. The menu is sort of invented European tapas. So we selected four dishes to share between two, which turned out to be enough. We had butternut squash and artichoke risotto (for the starch), with hake with sweet potato batons; pork belly with rhubarb and plum chutney and garlic puree; and huge slices of pumpkin 'cinnamon roasted with lime and maple dressing and crispy goats cheese'. All were expertly cooked and delicious. Unfortunately service was poor, and three of the dishes were not brought until they were cool instead of hot, but we enjoyed the meal none the less, and would both recommend it, and plan to go back ourselves. For puddings we had smashing panna cotta, with a good helping of cherry compote, and a deconstructed apple strudel with lovely fresh green apple sorbet. An interesting new dining concept. With wine and coffee, the meal for two (two courses) was £57. Excellent value for London. The restaurant itself is buzzy, bistro style, with a bar area as well. read more

Awful experience. Food is overpriced. Nothing exciting about it, very bland and one-dimensional. Bad service as well, had to ask for the 12.5 discretionary service charge to be removed. The desserts are tiny to go with the 'small plate' style, but are priced as if they are regular sized. Left the restaurant hungry. read more
