I based my decision on reviews from Yelp and Google, and I was pleased with the food. For my husbands surprise birthday party, I ordered a total of nine items from the menu. The portion sizes were more than enough, and we had leftovers for a few days! Everything tasted great, except for the mac and cheese, which was just one item that didn't hit the mark for me. My guests enjoyed everything else. My favorites were the meatballs, curried potatoes with chickpeas, cajun alfredo pasta, and the red beans and rice. The food arrived early and hot, which was fantastic. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I ordered fried wings and sweet chili wings but received baked wings instead. It was too late to address it, but they tasted great regardless. Jaclyn was very patient with my update requests, and I would definitely recommend this place! Initially I was skeptical about booking a cater that I never had the opportunity to taste the food. However, from our initial conversation I knew I wanted to conduct business with Ms. Johnson. She was very professional, kind, cared about my function worked with me to find the right menu and allowed changes with my menu selections up to almost the event, all with a great sense of humor. The food arrived before time. It was hot, smelled great and the delivery person was polite and did a great job at setting up. The food was exceptional, some of the best macaroni and cheese I've had since I've moved to the DMV area. Everything was seasoned just right. All my guest were asking who did the food, typical I would have some food left over, however this time the pans were bone try. I reached out to Jaclyn with the atypical request of catering for just my wife and I. To get a whole bunch of healthy food that I could divvy up for superfast meal prep. Chicken, sweet potatoes, roasted vegetables. She replied to my request very fast, and was very accommodating with my adjustments to her menu - omitting marshmallows from the sweet potatoes and using less butter. Food was delivered right on time - hot and smelling delicious!! Portion sizes were fantastic too. I got herb roasted chicken (thighs and legs) and figured I might have to eat 3 or 4 pieces for a meal. Nope. Big pieces all around (a thigh and a leg were perfect for a meal). Was very disappointed with Made with Love Catering, I had high expectations based on the amount of positive Yelp reviews. First off, communication was poor. She told us 24 hours before my baby shower that she was unable to find food warmers. She only mentioned this when I reached out to confirm we were all set for the following day - why wouldn't you bring it up prior that you wouldn't be able to provide such an important aspect for a catering event? We ended up purchasing our own that she said she would reimburse us for and here we are still nearly a month after the event, she still has not reimbursed us for the food warmers. On the day of the event, she was about 45 minutes late and again never communicated that she was running late. Her being late would have been ok if she let us know ahead of time. The actual food itself was also disappointing. The deviled eggs had no flavor and were rubbery, the mac and cheese was also pretty bland. Buffalo chicken poppers were just OK. Our guests also said they were very underwhelmed by the food. I'm all for supporting a Black owned business but this one definitely needs some work. read more

Let me first start off by saying I feel that communication is key and my experience with this company has been atrocious. Customer service is and should always be the goal when operating a business. Zero communication after you receive payment is unacceptable, not ignoring request to confirm or verify to put a person's mind at ease should be protocol. I had to contact this company twice, prior to event with verification and confirmation and on the day of the event. You failed to provide the correct services rendered, you failed miserable with communications. You do not leave a customer waiting without a simple text, email or phone call when you have an issue that can and will affect the services for which you were paid. The shrimp tasted like it was days old, the buffalo chicken slider was not pleasant, warmers were not provided. The program was delayed by more than an hour and our space was booked for a specific amount of time. The inconvenience caused BY toting food through a venue while a celebration is in progress was appalling. The only apology received was from the driver! This company lacked class and professionalism. We used Jaclyn at Made With Love Catering to cater a Friday night reception (with heavy hors d'oeurves) for 45 people for our annual family reunion weekend. I give the experience a solid 3.5 stars. Positive highlights of the experience include: 1. Responsiveness -- Jaclyn was super professional and responsive throughout the contract negotiation phase. She answered our questions promptly (even late at night) and patiently worked with us to tailor a menu that fit our specific dietary needs and budget. 2. Price -- Jaclyn's food prices are fair and competitive, and you get a great value for what you pay. (But we decided to provide our own plates, napkins, and cutlery though to cut costs there.) 3. Portion size -- Jaclyn provided a generous amount of food for our estimated attendance. People were able to get seconds and eat until they were satisfied. 4. Taste -- For the most part, reunion attendees enjoyed the food and wanted to give their compliments to the chef. On our anonymous survey results, the Friday reception food rated an average of 4 out of 5. Constructive feedback about the experience include: 1. Tastings -- I had to book Jaclyn/Made With Love sight unseen/taste unknown and solely off the strength of the Yelp reviews. Jaclyn does not currently offer a tasting option, which I find is pretty standard with most professional caterers. (That is, there is usually a small fee of like $30-$50 charged for you to get a sample of the menu items you select. If you book the caterer, that tasting fee is deducted from your bill.) In this case, there was no option to do a tasting but I was invited to buy a ticket to a Caribbean event in another part of town and try the food being catered there (which was not the menu I was contemplating). 2. Arrival time -- Jaclyn was supposed to arrive at 5 pm for our 6 pm Friday reception. I proactively reached out to her about a week in advance to confirm the exact arrival time. Unfortunately, Jaclyn did not arrive until about 5:25 pm on the day of our event -- with the result that by the time the food was unloaded from her car and being set up on our buffet, guests were already beginning to arrive for our event. I did not like being in a situation where guests are starting to file in and we are still sitting out food, still lighting burners, etc. Now to be fair, traffic was ATROCIOUS at that time and day, so I understand how one would be late. But when it was clear that she wouldn't arrive at 5 pm, I think we should have received a call to let us know that she was on the way. (Again, this was a booking I made sight and taste unseen. So when it got to be 5:15 pm or so and I hadn't heard from Jaclyn, I got nervous and called her. She answered her cell and said that she was like 8 minutes away or something to that effect. I was relieved to hear from her and know that the food was still coming. But I think the onus to communicate about a change in plans is on the caterer, and not on me.) 3. Insufficient Sterno burners -- We paid to have Sterno burners provided for the food. But I didn't think I'd actually have to specify that all of the hot dishes would require their own burner. So I was disappointed to learn upon arrival that Jaclyn only brought burners for some, but not all, of the hot dishes. As shown in my photos, the roasted veggie pasta salad and the green beans did not have any warmers, and so they quickly got cold while sitting on the buffet. I'm not sure why burners weren't provided for these items, but they should have been. (Indeed, if you look at pictures of the green beans in other people's pictures -- these items have their own burner and are not simply sitting on the table.) So in addition to the fact that the correct number of burners wasn't provided, there was also the issue that due to the late arrival, we really didn't have time to let the food heat long enough before serving was to begin. 4. Checking In -- As the lead reunion planner, I was busy making sure that everything ran smoothly. But I thought it would have been appropriate for Jaclyn to check in with me before she left to make sure that everything was ok and ready to go. I remember seeing her as she was setting up the buffet, but the next time I looked up, she was gone. I thought it would have been appropriate for her to check in with or say good-bye to the organizer before leaving. (I would, for example, have asked about the Sternos if I'd had a chance to do that.) 5. Taxes and Fees -- The original invoice contained unexplained fees and taxes that exceeded the current DC catering tax rate. The fee for use of Paypal or a credit card also was a function of the bill, rather than a flat rate as would otherwise be expected. All in all though, we had a solid initial experience with Jaclyn/Made with Love Catering. But I share such thorough feedback above so that others, like us, can make informed decisions about their catering options. read more

In planning a baby shower from another state, I was in search of a caterer to provide brunch for the shower. Jaclyn was very responsive. She helped plan the menu within my budget and provided assisted with options for the brunch. She checked in with me about two weeks prior to the shower to make sure she had all of the details. We used Made with Love Catering for a small (about 40 people) surprise party last November. This was somewhat last minute (maybe 10-15 days before the party) and Jaclyn was extremely responsive. We chose items from her excellent menu to make our lives easy, and we were not disappointed. Highlights were the Jambalaya, the Chicken, and crab cakes, but everything was good, and we had so much left over! This was a surprise party so Jaclyn delivering on a narrow window was a must. Her team delivered as promised, set up everything quickly, and were as professional in person as over email. A small anecdote is that we had order some salad that included lettuce. The day before the event, there was some fairly important recall of lettuce due to e. coli or something of the sort. I decided to touch base with Jaclyn about it, and she immediately offered alternatives, no questions asked. Again, this was just before the event. Our guests were delighted with the food, and we were delighted to have saved ourselves a lot of work! Made with Love Catering is a godsend! It cannot be overstated how good her food is (jerk chicken, salmon, roasted Brussels sprouts). I order her meal prep packages (paleo-based) and I'm hooked. I work A LOT (meetings all day) and am usually starving and exhausted at the end of the day. Jackie saves me from making bad food choices and saves me money! I used Made With Love for a double birthday celebration for me and my nephew. Caribbean theme menu. Food was amazing and all guests liked. Raved about crab balls and jerk and curry chicken which they said were juicy and well seasoned. Usually one or the other is good but they said both were great! We also had peas and rice, Mac and cheese, cabbage and plantains. Non vegetable eaters loved the cabbage that had squash, broccoli, carrots? I think ( went ... fast so I'm not sure of all veggies) finely minced and added in. Enough food for double the number of attendees and all guests took "doggie" bags home. Price I thought was reasonable and Jaclyn was gracious and patient enough to work with me. Would strongly recommend if you're looking for good food to have at your affair.
