The lead instructors are contentious, kind, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I don't know how to get my kids to listen at home but they sure are listening when on the mat and the instructors are speaking. All students interact with each other, no matter the skill level. The student staff are friendly and really enjoy working with the kids. We've taken our kids when they've had a bad day and they're back to smiling during and after class. We've been going for about 4+ months and have no plans to stop. Check out a free class or whatever deals they feature for intro sessions. I can't say enough good things about the experience here, the learned skill set, the staff, and the positivity that this program generates.

I brought one of them yesterday and she had so much fun and wanted to come again. It's obviously meant for all kids but as a heads up, I think it's best for neurotypical kids aged 1-5. Beyond five and I can see them getting bored quickly unless they come to play with a friend or siblings. Lots of gross motor activities as well as an arts and crafts room for fine motor skills and a game room too if your kid likes that kind of stuff. They have a zip line and a trampoline and a climbing wall too. I talked to the 3 year old I babysit that there are kids here who play differently from her. I told her they calm and soothe differently from her and sometimes they have a harder time waiting. We talked in the car about letting other kids have a turn first and we can come back to a toy if a friend is having a hard time sharing. She very much understood and didn't hesitate in the new environment. She hasn't per se been exposed to neurodivergent friends so I thought she did amazing - kind & offering preferred items first to others. Anyway, a great way to spend a cold or rainy day. 07/03/2023 Where do I start without sounding like a…read moredisgruntled old man. An old friend was camping there with his motor home, I rented a cabin at the same campground. I met his wife at the general store and she after hugging and other pleasantries got in my car and we proceeded to her RV. Just got there and David raced up in his golf cart and proceeded to tell me he could have the police arrest me and her for giving the "secret" code to get in. Just the day before she was told she was going the wrong way on a street with no signs. I was told on the phone when my CC was billed I would receive an email with a map and what cabin I was in. Never happened! Finally at 5:00 at night I was allowed back in. 5 MPH is posted all over. My car in 1st gear idling is faster than that. Had foot on brake for all movement in camp. Many others go the opposite way on the roads in the campgrounds, particularly the golf carts and boy, never knew a golf cart could go so fast. Big sign no driving on grass, was told not for you. Sign in cabin says no parking on grass by cabins. They either do not want disabled vets there or they cater to people that pay by the year. Oh yes, pets are welcome, sign says you must take your dog so it doesn't bark. There was a barking dog that could be heard in the cabin, the trailer it came from said Mayor of the Lake. Once again if you aren't one of the good ole boys, watch your step.

Mark offered to let us try out some classes at his school in Willoughby and, from the very first time I went, I felt completely welcome and at home. The other students were happy to practice with me and to provide little bits of advice here and there so that I could learn without it seeming overwhelming. Saturday morning the school runs a women's self defense course, which is free and immensely practical. The beauty of jiu jitsu is that you don't have to be strong - you just have to be smart. This martial art (used by the Samurai and subsequently developed in Brazil by the Gracie brothers - very interesting history) uses leverage and physics so that 100lbs girl in our class was able to beat a 200lbs guy. What I really appreciate about Mark and Ron's school is how welcoming they are. They really care about making a difference in Cleveland through jiu jitsu. They have the free women's self defense course, a fantastic kids program, and they are building a brand new facility so that their regular students will have more space to practice, locker rooms, an area where their kids can play while they take classes, and so much more. If you are interested in trying a martial art, I definitely recommend trying jiu jitsu and, moreover, trying Mark and Ron's school because you can come here knowing that you will be able to learn and practice in a welcoming environment in which everyone is focused on learning *safely* rather than trying to prove that they know more than you. Very glad that I had the opportunity to train here for a few months before I go back to Buffalo and, because of this school, I will definitely be looking for a place to train in Buffalo.
