Worried about my 3 year olds language skills I decided to have him evaluated by a speech therapist…read more I chose this group because it was on the top of my insurances list. He was seen by Jennifer Wilson who, after a mere 7 minutes, invited my into the therapy room (I noted the time so precisely because I remember glancing at my watch to notice that they were running a bit early in their appointments). Ms. Wilson told me that she believed, "with her many years of experience in speech therapy" that my son had autism. She informed me that she was not even able to complete the exam due to the severity of his issue: "He shows so many of the signs and symptoms..." She handed me pamphlets for an autism clinic that her staff personally recommend and informed me that there is really nothing I could have done or can do to help him now; that he needs to see a specialist. So I did just that. I had him evaluated by two different specialist: a pediatric autism specialist and an educational autism specialist at two separate groups. They both informed me that Ms. Wilson has absolutely no clue what she is talking about as my son shows not a single sign of autism. Both specialists told me that my sons biggest flaw was that he was simply shy, but that he was in no way autistic. My greatest concern is that this woman is diagnosing children as autistic due to it currently being a "fad diagnosis". My son was shy and did not feel comfortable answering her questions therefore she jumped to the most severe diagnosis that she could. Maybe she is receiving a kickback from referrals to the autism clinic. Maybe she just has no desire to work with children that are not interested in her. Whatever the reason she was utterly wrong, causing my family undue stress and worry, and I hope that this steers other families far away from this clinic.

Our 7y/o was referred to Center for Speech & Language early in 2014 by our insurance provider…read more Having previously received 6 months of pediatric speech therapy in North Carolina, with minimal progress, we were unsure of what to expect here in Alabama. After a few months of weekly sessions with Ms. Jennifer Wilson, our 7y/o is already 90% proficient in the areas that we initially sought treatment. This is a testament to the professionalism and skill of Ms. Wilson. Ms. Wilson is engaging and patient with our gregarious and charismatic child. Ms. Wilson treats our child with a high level of respect and encourages our child to practice correct speech at all times and in every situation. Most weeks, our child arrives directly from a long day at school, yet Ms. Wilson always manages to eek out 30 minutes of 'good stuff' from a child who no longer wants to focus or pay attention to more instruction. After reading the only Yelp review, we were unsure if this facility would be a good 'fit'; we could not have been more misguided. Ms. Wilson has never been anything but wonderful to our child and nothing short of respectful to us. In our opinion, and based upon the results that we have seen with our child, we have no reservations in recommending Ms. Wilson as a speech and language therapist. *With 3 children, we hold places that keep a tight schedule in high regard. Center for Speech & Language consistently respects our time and busy schedule. *Appointments routinely start and stop on time. *The office staff is excellent with conducting weekly appointment reminders as well as rescheduling appointments as needed. *Parking is tight, but never over-crowded.

We never had to worry that she was being taken care of. From Mary Overton, the facility admissions director to everyone from the aides, CNAs, nurses, and maintenance we were very satisfied with her care. She was treated with love and dignity in her last days.

She had never been combative EVER until she was constantly being awakend for vital checks, breathing treatments, etc. After 22 days, she was admitted to Madison Manor. I had requested several times that she be reduced on this medicine to at least half the dosage. That never happened. According to WebMD, Seroquel (quetiapine) is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and sometimes major depression. It functions by balancing neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, frequently causing sedation, dizziness, and weight gain. Key precautions include increased risk of death in elderly dementia patients, suicide risk in young adults, and potential metabolic changes. As far as I can see, my mother was given this drug because the Decatur Hospital staff and the Madison Manor staff found it an easy way to deal with patients that are not cooperating with their rough treatment. Mom had to be hospitalized at Madison Hospital for a hernia repair just last week. I told the hospital nurse that I want to get her off Seroquel. It finally happened when her attending doctor listened and got her off this unnecessary drug. She is now at home and returning to her normal, sweet disposition. I also found that she had a yeast infection which was pretty severe - from not being treated at Madison Manor.
