I already felt fairly confident and trusting in my body and Mireille's support cemented that confidence with me.

From the moment…read morethat I first met with her to discuss the possibility of a home birth for our first child, it was clear that Laura was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her field but what Laura has to offer goes far beyond her practical skills as a midwife. We decided on a home birth around 28 weeks and having come into care a little late I felt like I had some catching up to do. It was so easy to get to know Laura and I felt more comfortable in her care after two visits than I had felt the entire time with my OB office. Laura gave us confidence in our choice of home birth and in the end I believe that this helped us create an wonderful birth experience. After our son was born Laura was there to help answer all of our questions (as new parents there were a ton) and she also provided critical breast feeding support in the early days which I believe saved me from a lot of pain and frustration. My husband and I continue to be amazed by the care our family receives and if we are lucky enough to have more children we want Laura as our midwife again! I know that there are a lot of choices when it comes midwives in Santa Cruz county but you cannot go wrong with choosing Laura!

First I sought her advice about pumping because I wanted to get sleep while my husband bottle fed without relying on formula and within one day I was able to get off formula with her advice. Most recently she helped me get my daughter to take the bottle again. we stopped bottle feeding around 3 months old and missed a major learning moment on accident, so my daughter would gag and push it out. Becca gave me exercises specific to my daughter, paying very close attention to how she reacted and subtle cues that I even missed at first. I was also able to text updates and seek guidance along the way to make sure I was doing it correctly. My daughter is now finally taking the bottle again which is lifesaving especially before we begin daycare. In addition to her expertise, she is incredibly kind, patient, warm, and my baby loves her and always smiles. I was intimidated at first to search for an IBCLC but Becca builds my confidence and I'm so happy to have met her and grateful for her help with my daughter.

I had a rough start figuring out breastfeeding with my daughter and Becca was so patient and helpful, presenting multiple positions and ways to feed a tiny baby that wasn't getting enough milk. She helped me understand how to boost my supply while feeding, pumping and supplementing. I credit the success I have breastfeeding exclusively to Becca's recommendations. She is always on time, incredibly flexible and responsive over text, and always so encouraging. I cannot recommend her enough!

After the birth of my…read morefirst child, she was by my side for 11 weeks -- and I truly could not have navigated that season without her. As a doula, nurse, and lactation consultant, Karina brings a rare depth of knowledge that immediately put me at ease as a first-time parent. But beyond her credentials, she is one of the warmest, most trustworthy people I've ever met -- someone who blended into our home like a member of the family from day one. I looked forward to seeing her every single day. She guided me through so many firsts: bathing, vaccine reactions, pumping, introducing a bottle, sleep shaping, and more. She cleaned bottles and pump parts, did the baby's laundry, and even made nourishing oatmeal for me -- the kind of thoughtful care that made an enormous difference in those early weeks. With my spouse frequently working long hours and overnight shifts, I leaned on Karina heavily -- not just for the baby, but for my own wellbeing as I found my footing in this new chapter. I quickly felt confident leaving her alone with my newborn, which meant I could finally rest and recover the way I needed to. I am immensely grateful for her and recommend her without hesitation.

We had a wonderful experience with Karina. She connected with our baby instantly and knew exactly how to care for her. She also went above and beyond, helping with things I didn't even ask for, like cleaning the sterilizer and prepping new baby gear. Her care, expertise, and thoughtfulness made a world of difference. Highly recommend!

I stopped here and not only did they provide a cozy, private place for me to breastfeed with a helpful Breast Friend pillow, they also had changing tables and a scale for me to use, which brought me peace of mind. Then the nice young lady working there (after giving me space and privacy to nurse) helped me find nursing bras that I love (bravado, sadly being discontinued) and I even found some great nursing shirts that I wear every day. I am writing this review because Sheila Janakos doesn't just help new parents in her store/lactation support center but she is also a generous soul who helps the community. I have been on the board of a nonprofit for 32 years now called Nursing Mothers Counsel which provides free lactation support via phone with volunteers trained in lactation and counseling support. We are a great back up source for parents who may not need the expert support that Sheila and her IBCLC staff provide, or who are in need of support after business hours. We are so grateful to Healthy Horizons for donating 4 Medela Symphony Pumps to NMC for use as grant rentals for low income families we serve. This substantial donation will certainly help many low income families in the Bay Area and Santa Cruz County. Sheila has remained an affiliate member of our small non-profit and supported NMC with donations throughout her many years associated with our organization. Thank you so much Sheila and Healthy Horizons for your generosity and support!

My wife and I both felt strongly about having a midwife that was compassionate but also assertive. We met with maybe 6 total midwives and Kelly was the only one who seemed extremely confident, not too lackadaisical, but also felt there was a right time to have humility and ask for help from elsewhere. This was the perfect balance for us. I believe my wife was one of Kelly's most difficult cases (sick both of her entire pregnancies 24/7), but Kelly went so far out of her way to help us and make us feel like we had support, I can't say enough about how much that means to us. And much as we had expected when hiring her, she was very helpful in seeking treatment for my wife's sickness and helping us navigate what could have been an otherwise very difficult path of doctors and specialists. Kelly is super energetic and fun, being that she has 3 kids of her own. She really has a great personality for her chosen profession. The only knock is that she did not laugh when I told her I was going to check the surf mid-labor. That was actually a very good joke.

From the beginning she answered all of our questions without any pressure about homebirth vs hospital. After sitting with her for an hour, our minds were already made up, she clearly had to be the one to deliver our child. For months we looked forward to each visit and would always leave with delightful smiles, excited for the new adventure that was to come. When it was time for labor she was at our house ready to check me even in the early stages. She checked back often and monitored my progress until it was finally time to call the second midwife to come in and assist (Laura was a gem). During labor Kelly encouraged me and put my mind at ease for any aches and pains that I was feeling. When it seems like I couldn't take anymore she was there to tell me that this was the stage where it should feel like I cannot take anymore but she assured me that I could, and I would, and I did. Having our baby at home was the most magical experience and I wouldn't want to do it with anyone other than Kelly Olmstead. Since the birth she's been by several times to check our little babe and I must say that we are going to miss her and can't wait to get pregnant again! (but not too soon) ;)
